Welcome to Kevin, the wandering woodchuck!

Just to clarify, "Woodchuck" is local slang term for a Native Vermonter.

I was given this nickname many years ago while hiking Vermont's Long Trail from end to end in the fall of 2001. My apparent accent gave me away as the only "native" Vermonter on the trail at the time. I adopted the nickname wholeheartedly.

I do not consider myself as any sort of expert with survival, bushcraft or any other outdoor sport. I am simply an average guy in love with the outdoors.
I invite you to join me in my adventures all over New England and Canada.

My interest include as follows... Camping\\woodcraft, hunting, fishing, Skiing, Mt biking, Backpacking. I also enjoy testing my outdoor skills in a more traditional manor. Utilizing wool blankets rather than sleeping bags, canvas tents instead of nylon, candles in place of flashlights, mastering the art of building fire, bow drills, flint and steel etc..

Thanks so much for paying me a visit.

Watched your videos (and others) last year before my sister, brother, and I did the Traverse in July. I especially appreciate seeing which sites are most desirable. Thank you. Low's Lower Dam was (and still is) being rehabilitated so we had to carry a little over 2 miles on a dirt road to reach the Upper Dam. Other than a couple people coming out from a day paddle, we saw not a soul for 48 hours. Lows Lake was our private playground. Since the Lower Dam is still off limits, we are repeating the trip this year along with my friend and my brother's wife. We doubled all our carries and will likely do so again, and we are adding another night so we can take more time on the lake. Like you said, it's not about the miles, it's about the experience.

That is awesome job on getting that fire going, I may have to try that I believe I have some Polypore in my shed that I got off a birch it has the same consistency of Chaga. Hey Kevin, great job starting the fire. Pretty amazing fire starting technique. I think all the work you put into it warranted something better than ramen noodles, like maybe a nice piece of steak grilled over the fire. Was the chaga pretty dry or had it recently been found. Also, does it matter if the brown, or black portion of the chaga is rubbed against the maple log? Keep these good videos coming. Thanks for sharing.

I suggest you read a few books written by paddlers who paddled the Connecticut River from the beginning to end. It starts up in Northern New Hampshire from a bog at the Canadian Border and flows to the Long Island Sound and ends at Old Saybrook, Ct Takes about 7 days to finish. Quite a few have paddled this. Check some canoe and kayak web sites they are a good source of information. Good Luck

Hello, I hope you are well. Do Fireproof Groundsheet (Stove Area) and outer tent match each other well? Can insects, pests and similar animals easily get in? Please reply, this issue is very important to me, thank you.
@kevinthewanderingwoodchuck2586
@kevinthewanderingwoodchuck2586 4 месяца назад
I do wish that the fireproof groundsheet came forward a bit more than it does. I put a small peice of tin directly under the stoves door to help catch sparks. It may not need it, but it makes me feel better. As far as pests go, I didn't purchase the inner mesh tent primarily because I plan on using this tent mostly in the winter. Although I must say that the ground sheet has excellent coverage and "overlap" inside the tent. The screen doors are great. Smooth zippers and extra small mesh to keep even the smallest bugs out. I would feel comfortable using it during bug season without the inner mesh tent. Just my opinion. Feel free to ask any other questions. I'd love to help in any way I can . Have a wonderful week!

I'm a little late to this video, enjoying your channel... but just a rather important note: Tylenol is acetaminophen, not aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid). You give ASA for heart attacks. Tylenol will just make the heart attack victim feel less ouchy as they expire... Totally different medication. Really important note!
