I have to say thank you all for this webinar! It is so inspiring to me that I am feeling alive again! I would like to express how I felt before the webinar and after: a) before: I’m in a boat alone, confused, bewildered and on top of these overwhelming feelings am without oars 😮, just spinning in the water… b) after watching the webinar: I started feeling as though I’m moving to the right place where I should be, I looked back and there I saw Ann, Kim, Natasha, Rachael, and Lorna with oars helping me to move forward! Thank you guys! It is wonderful to be with occupational therapists again!!!
wearing sunglasses indoors can lead from light sensitivity to light HYPER sensitivity, as ur brain adapts, I learned this the hard way. So, while this works in the short term, long term, not so much. But, once u have tracked ur symptoms diary, u will kno & recognize (hopefully) when it's a good day and to push a bit, and take a scheduled brain break, until symptoms subside, and try again. Don't push on bad days, u may cause a multi-day crash, just focus on recovery and conserving ur energy. (my fav resource on YT is a video titled, "Life Hacks for Managing Symptoms after Traumatic Brain Injury," by St. Joseph's Health Care London) Also, there are migraine glasses that limit the offending wavelengths, while allowing the comforting wavelengths so u can pace the lights as well, whereas sunglasses can be bad, especially polarized lenses and screens, that is an instant projectile vomiting incident for me LoLz (switching to an amoled screen on my phone helped alot, as well as dark mode and turning the screen brightness down, manually vs ambient mode). As for your computer monitor, reflections kill me, so eliminate light sources behind u, dark mode is ur friend, and there's some fonts and colours that are beneficial, from other modes, what am i trying to say? there's a dyslexia mode on kindle that is helpful for us brain injured that don't have dyslexia, but can apply to other screens, or something idr exactly, oh yeah, i remember now, what i was going to say, irlen lenses, there's a colored overlay u can put on ur computer screen, and everything feels better, but different colors for different people, takes a lil trial and error to find what works best for u
Hi, I qualified earlier 2022 and currently in my first role as a community OT in an integrated ALD team. I can totally see a benefit for an OT in primary care. The speakers clearly have a wide range of skills and experience. It shows that uni is one thing but role/ life experience is snother
Why do you look like someone's forcing you to make this short at gunpoint? One would think an OT would have a better understanding of how and why enthusiasm and generally acting like you give a shot is so important while trying to make a point.
42:18 (and elsewhere) These outcomes are not SMART. They are not specific or measurable. The link has not been sufficiently made that it is section F provision that leads to the Outcomes in Section E. Very disappointing that the RCOT has not read and applied the SEND CoP and that this video has been viewed 4214 times.
Thank you for the feedback. This is a recording of a webinar from 2015 and our experience of the EHCP process has developed considerably since then. Whilst the webinar provides some useful background information, we also recommend these documents for examples of good outcome descriptors: councilfordisabledchildren.org.uk/resources/all-resources/filter/education-and-learning/education-health-and-care-plans-examples-good
I think you are flogging a dead horse training new people . If the older established O.T officers Do not think new ways are better. Like my O.T. Lady who is quit frankly got the opinion she knows so much top spinal men and GP referrals and discharge advice is not worth even reading. By looking at you she knows what you need. Saying things like stop making problems where their are none. Leaving me after surgery unable to wash my own bottom. or face. Unable to watch tv with my husband . Or eat without sitting on the edge of my bed. Do I take the spinal doctors advice 1/10 hurniated disks slip out again. Or hers no indoor wheel chair, for me. I might never get out of it. She wants me on my feet nerve damage in feet burns like sun burn as it repairs. But having the operation two weeks ago. I must wash at the kitchen sink. Stand without crutches. My weak legs will work. Bend knees wash face. We are not in the 1940s. Or if I wet myself at night unable to move quickly enough. Use a sponge with a long handle over a bowl. Drip dry. What is she on. I ask myself. Left in tears by the condescending attitude. How will you fix those type. People are so scared of her at the hospital. They refuse to give me the welsh feed back form or allow me to see my notes. They will not allow a complaint about her. Cause she is the most experienced O T they have. She will be training others. Not to put up with lazy people be firm. Yep you have no chance. It’s like driving you learn after the text. I wish you good luck all the same. Liz xxx
How do I lodge a very serious complaint about an O.T. Lady who broke a lot of your guide lines. I’ve tried to lodge a complaint with the hospital. And O.T. Manager. Nobody is helping me. Sort out my needs . It’s written down.by me. It’s the first person who has been disrespectful to me. I get on with everyone doctors receptionists G.P. Hospital Staff. Physio. Leaving me so upset. Speaking to me like I’m a child. O.t. Refused to read hospital report. Refused such a lot of help requested by a top spinal man my G.P. And others. Her way or no way attitude. Yet hospital tells me she’s very experienced. My mental health is so muddled. I was moving on. She’s left me feeling a mess . Not trying enough. When everyone else says I am doing fantastic. Can I send you my complaint. Via e-mail please . She took an instant dislike to me. My husband was shocked. He left the room he was so angry with her. She broke me.
I would absolutely agree that from the outset most people do not understand what Occupational Therapist / Therapist do, this may be because the name does not imply this. Is is worth thinking about more precise taxonomy of the profession? Thank you 😘

Hello Thankyou for this video it was inspiring and informative as it highlights the issues of the current PPE protocols affecting different medical practices such as Occupational therapy .
As an OT myself, trying to recover from Covid 19 pneumonia, I found Julia's compassionate and common sense explanation of how OT's can help most encouraging, and refreshing.
