I think you should turn your spindle ram block upside down to gain more useful z-axis travel. Because now, after putting a vise and a tool in the spindle, you’re left with maybe 150mm travel and a bunch of dead space. Also, those inductive prox sensors may trip and ruin your work piece if you have metal chips flying around.
This is a real great build! Why spend an awful lot of money when you can build a good CNC milling machine yourself? Absolute upper class! Could you tell me what kind of spindle motor you have installed? What is the torque? Can this motor generate enough power even at low spindle speeds (e.g. 300-500 rpm)?
by ear, too many spindle revolutions for this material. A smooth immersion in the material must be added to the control program, otherwise the cutting edges of the cutter will break very quickly
I guess the opposite is true. You would want more RPM because it is a HF-Spindle and it needs the RPM's to get its torque. You can hear the spindle slowing down when cutting.

Very nice machine! Did you fill the frame with concrete, epoxy concrete or sand? If not you definently should. It helps canceling vibrations tremendously
