I think you may also, in addition to the aging above 125 proof mistake, be mistaken that bourbon can’t be bottled at over 150 proof. It just needs to be at least 80 proof. No limit on bottled proof.
According to the info I have, that IS the limit. Are you aware of any bourbon that has more than 75% ABV? Some of the hottest Ive seen are in the mid 60's. I tried a 151-Rum one time and it was gross.
@@StylesAndCravings I have indeed had some store picks that were above 150. I just mean there’s no stipulation on it being bottled higher than a certain proof to be called bourbon. It just has to be at least 80 proof.
You are right to point this out. The correct information is this: The distillate can not START the aging PROCESS at over 125 proof. However, over time, water evaporates from the barrels, increasing the a.b.v. . This is especially a concern in the southern US. 95% of bourbon is made in Kentucky
