I have followed your channel since your Ecuador trip. Andy is a friend of ours and has guided us twice in Ecuador. Your videos are fantastic to watch and enjoy. However, your music choices seem to distract from the art of your video capability. Again, thank you for your artistic videos and adventure riding destinations.
Thanks - I always struggle with the choice of the music. I'm sure nobody wants to hear my voice instead, droning about how scared I was doing this ascent or other... Best idea I currently have is to have few subtitles explaining what I deem important, have music in the background and allow anyone to tune it down
Hello again - your comment reminded me, that the music behind the video you mentioned was dreadful and more of an accident. By now, I succeeded to upload the original cut, which IMHO is better. Check it out ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VVgdSkjV6T0.html
@@KlausNeutze Yes, works nicely! Nicely made. Let's see if I can use some of your coffee stops to our advantage :-) One question actually. Would you say that the percentage offroad that the ACT indicates per day for their routes is accurate? When I check the map it seems like they might be saying it's more offroad than it actually is but possibly the map displays some gravel roads as normal roads maybe?
@@KlausNeutze Thnx! I always book accommodations near the end of the riding day because sometimes it's a bit tricky to plan ahead due to possible unexpected events as I ride alone. The disadvantage is that sometimes you'll need to make detours from the track but typically these are no longer than 40 minutes.
I am currently on a 4000km trip - 2 up. Trust me, this is the bike I want. Picking up this bike is easier than you think… it never lies flat and you can turn it wheels down on the cylinder. Still I wouldn’t go off road alone.
@@KlausNeutze What's the point if you wouldn't go off road alone for fear of not dropping your bike?😂Freedom is no longer freedom.Welldone nonetheless!
I certainly don’t fear dropping the bike, more like breaking a bone and be stuck alone. Even with a 350 I would prefer having another rider around. I get it, lighter bikes are better off road than heavier ones. As I have to decide for just one and do fast alpine roads, long distances and off road in that order… this is the bike. Would prefer one, which nobody else has… done it… need it no more
très bonne vidéo! c'était humide! 😅 il faudra que j'arrive à trouver une date qui me corresponde pour aller à Hechlingen. tu l'as fait avec ta moto ou une du centre?
I don't say this off-road training is easy, well-done all of you. But you should all learn how to pick up a bike when you drop it. You can find videos on youtube how to pick up a bike when you drop it. Not difficult, but you should use the right technique
GEMA …
I also want to take part at this training. But I never would ride such a heavy weighted BMW. At a relative small area, there it might become fun. But imagine, you're driving at a world travel tour - maybe 100 km pure off-road. Often more. In every second you have to maneuver your fat BMW - this ain't fun. But to stay honest - the most riders aren't going on world tour. Like in this video is seen - not only the BMWs are heavy. Much of the riders are too and therefore unable doing long hard rides. So, all is good and ok.
Every bike is a compromise to what it is intended for, except race bikes. The BMW boxer is a remarkably good compromise for fast road, long distance and light off road. I wouldn’t know what to take on a world tour… I liked the KTM 790
@@KlausNeutze A KTM for a world tour would maybe become difficult. I wouldn't have any confidence, that the bike will be lasting for 35.000 kxm without a motor revision.
Hi Klaus Great video thank you. I am planning on doing the route with 3 friends in July. We have all ridden off road quite a bit. Are the days long or easily achievable with time to unwind in the evenings. It looks like you are using Garmin Nav 6 or Zumo XT, do these pick up all the trails and work well on re-routing which you did on a couple of occasions?
I have the BMW Nav V and experimented with topographic maps. In the end, the only thing that worked was displaying the ACT Track and following it visually. That worked great. For deviations, you sooner or later end up on bigger roads, which you'll find on a map. I also had a set of 1:300000 maps with me.The days were just right. Starting early usually takes you to the destination by early afternoon, but.... weather can change it all. Some areas will be dangerous in thunderstorms and others will get muddy and very hard. Starting early is always a good idea.
I used the original set of Metzler Karoo 3 and they gave me a good feeling. However, I have tried many different types of tyres off road and the difference is not as big as one would think. As long as it is not "pure road" tires, they are fine.
@@KlausNeutze Many thanks for your quick answer. I have Mitas (e13 and e9) on 800dr and my main concern is to burn them on the on road parts to cross the France. I think I will try Metzeler next time 😉
@@zuberzyril7124 Mitas is the only one I haven't tried, except on a rental bike, once. The Heidenau didn't agree with my big BMW Adventure - not enough grip on the road. I ended up with Michelin Anakee Adventure as a good compromise
Again, great vid, great soundtrack. Don't take this personally, but It's better that you left the singing to Tina 🤣🤣. Looks like you had a great time 👍👍
Very good video, thanks for sharing. Soundtrack was also excellent 👌, my favourite band. We did the Portugal ACT last year, hoping to do this next year. Looks great 👍👍
Sounds great. We had a wonderful time. Tried Greece this year, but the weather just wasn't allowing it. Instead we spent a great time on Albanian back roads. Portugal sounds great, but a bit far from Munich/Ottawa/Hungary - going there on our own wheels is a must for us. Good luck and enjoy
hi Klaus, magic ride! Suggestion - put some subtitles in the video to highlight interesting places and shots - that way we can understand where you are 🙂
I have a GoPro 10 mounted on my helmet and a GoPro 9 on the bike. To be honest, I broke 2 GoPros in the last year. One I got replaced on warranty, one was on me.
@FelixH2wheels here is a map showing the road along the lake. I guess it connects back up into Durmitor Park, but haven't tried myself goo.gl/maps/JVzfrKGkghVLx5dK8
Hi, After doing the UK-ACT beginning this month July 2023, I'm planning the ACT Pyrenees for next september. Thanks for charing this general overvieuw. It gives a lot more indept looks then the ACT promotional videao. Not sure about conditions in september but i'll take my chance
The current condition is crucial. I guess the whole ACT is "mostly harmless". Some stretches will turn muddy during rain and I wouldn't want to have to plow through those. I was also worried about thunderstorms on exposed sections.
Excellent set of videos, better than the offical act video for actually showing you the trail. Music choice is very good too. Thanks from 🏴 England. (I'm booked to do this in 2024 on Tenere 700)
