Sometimes, it’s not the system you learn; it’s how you apply the system you learn. It’s the unfortunate reality of techniques based learning. When you apply the techniques you learn sensibly in the real world, even Tai Chi can be “effective”. If you don’t apply the techniques sensibly in the real world (as we got a glimpse of what could possibly happen here) even BJJ; which when I began my martial arts journey was the end-all-be-all of self-defense, would be “ineffective”. As a matter of fact, you can argue that ALL systems (especially if they are technique based) are ineffective when you don’t apply the techniques you are taught sensibly & effectively.

George Foreman used to use a straight arm block very effectively. However, I agree that blocking is generally ineffective in self defense.

My trick at first was thinking of a random word as I'm intentionally pulling the trigger to fire at my target. I want the bang to be a surprise to my body, just like the first time you fire a gun (like a virgin). My consciousness knows I'm pulling the trigger (it is my will) but subconsciously my body is distracted by the random word enough to not let the body do a flinch. Works every time. Now, much later you drop that trick and can just fire evenly at will with no word crutch.

In a self defense situation, don't blame me if you yell out "sassafras!" or "mongoose!" or "porcupine!"

Just the first few sentences are already ridiculous. The belief that your family being threatened somehow magically gives you mysterious fighting powers(that other men do not have); supposedly by making you 'go berserk' - is simply insane. It goes against everything martial arts stand for. Martial arts teach you to be calm when fighting. If you 'go berserk', you already lost. Martial arts are based on the idea that you can learn sophisticated techniques and tactics that beat brute, natural force (including the brute force of somebody who 'is berserk'). If your fighting skill depends on something you hold dear(your family, for example) being threatened and you losing it - again, you already lost before you started fighting. You must be able to fight depending on your free will; not on some external circumstances. If fact, you must be able to choose NOT to fight even when your family is being threatened; otherwise, you are just a slave to the circumstances. And last but not least, beware of anybody who tells you that to fight, you should 'go berserk', this way or that. This was never a way healthy men fought, as it is more akin to being possessed. It sounds hardcore, but it is only evil and unhealthy. Fight calmly and fight with compassion; it is not easy, but it should be your goal and direction.

I was up for an down with it all, until the Nasty disarm, for 1 because you should know better, and 2, because if you take a blade that way, it's unrealistic to expect to use it after.

I’ve found with my crossbow that being ‘ready’ to squeeze, then coming onto target, is how I become accurate. (Always coming from ‘ground’, incidentally, so as to not accidentally fly an arrow.) if I aim first then become ready to squeeze that trigger I’m less accurate.

The issue comes down to (pun unintended), that a well rounded mma practitioner is too busy mastering the other forms of martial arts and has a life outside of it that we don't have time to work on advanced ground skills aswell. So it's realistic to work on alternative counters and defense against grappling that suits the same general style of the fighter. Disagree with point 5. it's demonstrated in the video that there are possibilities for counters. You don't need to learn grappling to defend against grappling.

That's important to realize that in most of case, agressors will NOT show the blade before hurting you, several Times in a row, very quickly Knives kill, Real murderers are frantics, It's an illusion to believe there are technics against that, wisdom IS to avoid these situations, as far as possible...

A weapon confronts another weapon and for these cases (apart from fleeing) it is best to wear a belt with a *good buckle* and train with this tool to use it as a weapon.

To be fair though, if you are rolling with a guy on the floor and only realized after the guy pulls a knife that the guy is a trained knife fighter, you’ve fucked up real bad to not recognize early on that the guy could be trained and could be armed. Your only chance at that point to salvage the situation is to disengage and pull out your gun; or grab a bigger melee weapon that is bigger than his knife. In other words, make it an unfair fight to your advantage as much as you can. These knife disarm stuff you only would have a chance at pulling off if the guy with the knife is a schmuck who doesn’t know how to handle a knife.

Glocks are more reliable but shoot like shit. Doubling the mag capacity makes you miss 15-17 times instead of 8-10. Accuracy is more important than capacity. The more reliable 1911 are expensive, 2011s are as reliable as Glocks. Those guns cost a lot of money, but my life is more expensive.
