I’m sorry that I missed this. Will there be Monday class in the spring semester? I can only do Mondays or Tuesdays and in the fall session I won’t be able to do anything except work. What is the week by week progression of the syllabus? Is the first semester all drawing and fundamentals? I ask because that what I need.

When doing the initial underpainting, you said to thin the paint with turps. But what about binders? If I thin too much with turpentine, won't the next oil layers over this, flake off with the loose paint particles underneath in the underpainting?

You should only use A LITTLE BIT of solvent. A dab will do ya!

This is the best tutorial I've ever seen for oil painting students and I've seen possibly a hundred on youtube. My heart is bursting with "Thank You's!" I'm just now getting serious about using oils and I neeeeeeded ALL this valuable information. .... joyce

I beg for ur pardon but ur reasonings r unsatesfying. U couldnt let ur students know how to compose, on what base. And how to choose the size of the painting.

Garrett is one of the absolute best teachers I've ever seen. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, it's a pleasure to hear you. I've sent all these lectures to my classmates because it just feels like a sin not to share this treasure, specially when public art schools are such a mess. You are doing an amazing contribution to humankind by sharing this with us. Thank you!

I enjoy these lectures sooo much. Thank you. After re-watching this I realized why I enjoy your lectures so much. Art history in college was so boring. However; the way you relate art history to the thought process and the application of paint makes your lectures more dynamic.

Yes sir I would venture to say the painting made a few hundred years before the invention of the camera was in fact “not trying to be a photograph.” Astute observation.

I think American Abstract Expressionists simply lack talent, skills, vision or dept, so they come up with all that abstract nonsense just to act pretensions full of self importance. And people like you helped to create that illusion, myth that they are somehow geniuses. In reality they were just a bunch of tasteless charlatans.
