My brothers and my sisters sour cherry trees hardly had any either. My brother also had problems with his green beans, which usually bas so many he just gives them away. He has canned up to 100 quarts in a season from just a medium size patch. Az high desert.

I actually always freeze basil and parsley fresh for soups stews etc in winter . Any fresh spices I also dry on paper towel then freeze . I had cinnamon sticks for years still fresh fragrant as just bought . In glass mason jars .
I can taste those veggies and fruits! We use pots exclusively now due to varmints and bad knees. We have a yellow harvest apple tree, rhubarb and black and red raspberries. Containers grow chives, onions, spinach, lettuce, cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes, potatoes and probably a couple other things my husband is trying for fun. Happy gardening.
I shopped my freezers and pantries for food to cook. Wasn’t any loss leaders this week I wanted. I shop only loss leaders and add them to what I have on hand. We are eating well and and simple.
That is a great way to shop. It seems there are fewer and fewer loss leaders these days, but it is good to scoop them up when we can. Thank you for your comment.
The house does not look sparse to me. It looks smart and uncluttered. I would feel very comfortable there. I do wonder though about all those canned goods. Is it stock for a food pantry?
Thanks for your positive feedback. I try to keep at least 3 months of food around. It is nice because I can usually pay the price I want and it is there if there weather is bad or I don't want to go to the store. If I want to use my grocery money for sales or something special like a spiral ham or a turkey, I have enough food to get us through the week on hand, so I can do that. It sure was wonderful to have when Covid hit and I didn't have to worry about going to the store and fighting the crowds.
When you said, "What's ALLOWED in my home," I was really struck. I have been taking my collection of vintage stuff to the Habitat for Humanity thrift shop and feel good about it. Stuff I bought inexpensively back in the '90's. So I guess I "rented" it for a while. Benefits both me and Habitat.
7 y ago i came back to live with my widowed mum in the big home, with my hubby and child. The process to get rid of my father's tools and stuff (metal stuff, car parts and so on) was already ongoing outside the house. But my mum kept lots and lots of old stuff in the house. Her words always was "you can change what you want when i'll be dead'. But i was very overwelmed. now my mom is 87, weelchair and incapable. I decided to not wait any longher. I'm almost 50 now, if i wait i will not have the energy to do the death cleaning! the life was already full. So, deathcleaning it is.

I have stopped buying a lot of the products that they have changed and found better alternatives. There are so many people struggling to pay for food and the food companies keep reducing the sizes and charging the same price. Not fair at all to the consumers.
I just bought a box of graham crackers for a recipe of Nanaimo bars. When I open the box, I was stunned to find the cracker packages don’t fill the box anymore, there are less crackers per sleeve, and the crackers are smaller! So disappointed.
Isn't it amazing how decluttering can help your home to be more organized, your finances to be in better shape by not buying a lot of extra things, and if we were all more thoughtful about what we purchase, the earth wouldn't have so much trash.
I have found when substituting cottage cheese for ricotta, if i freeze, thaw and stir thoroughly beforehand, it has a consistency much more like ricotta for a fraction of the price.

@@spendwisemoms My set came in yesterday, so I will need a few weeks to develop a solid opinion. However, from an initial quality (and eye test) perspective, it looks to be extremely sturdy and high quality. I will definitely follow up once I've used a few pots and pans from the set.

I totally agree with you! I just got some Rice Krispie treats from Costco and they are much smaller than they were just a few months ago and the price is the same.
I just noticed today that the "Family Size" box that I just purchased last week has only 4 packs of crackers in it now, when the "Family Size" that I purchased a couple weeks ago had 6 packs of crackers as all the ones I purchased previously had 6. Did the average family shrink?
