Eric Clapton raves about Jeff beck, Jeff beck raved about Jimmy page, David gilmour raves about Jeff beck, Jimmy page raved about Jeff Beck, & even about that two chord wonder from U2. Jeff beck raved about John Mc Laughlin. Genius Allan holdsworth was/is light years ahead of them. Yet they barely if ever mentioned him. He just about managed to earn a living. Had they spoken up more for him he might have become more widely known sooner & had less of a struggle to survive. After all they spoke up for & approved of Hendrix before he hit the big time. Is it because Allan's music is over their pop/rock/blues heads? Though not in the case of mc laughlin. No offense to that music. I like a lot of it. Or is it because they just didn't want to be outshone? At least Van Halen did his best for him.
Those extended legato lines are just incredible. He could literally do anything he wanted on the neck. the normal physiological and biomechanical limitation us mortal suffer just didn’t apply to Allan. Extreme Talent + endless dedication = Allan
You might know this, but he plays pentatonic, though different than everyone else...except that now many have copied him. His are 3 note per string "stretch" configurations that don't sound bluesy.
@@jfo3000 Not just the 3-note-per-string, but also in groupings (like 4, 5, 6, etc) and permutations. Also sometimes he'll go up pentatonic scales chromatically, changing the key and such. Even with the simplicity of the pentatonics, Allan found a way around making them sound like his normal selection of scale like messiaen mode 3 and such. That's what you call genius!!!
Mai avuto problemi di memoria. Questo signore ha un viso conosciuto. Uguale uguale a don Alfonso Siniscalchi, ma non riesco a ricordare come si chiama.
this music is too complicated for most of the prisoners I teach to. I could say 1 over 20 would appreciate but they are always happy to do something different there.
Absolutely! I’ve always considered Allan’s music “psychedelic”, the tone, phrasing, and chords Allan uses often remind me of psychedelic electronic/ambient music, and his solo stuff is one of the few things I’d categorize as “psychedelic jazz fusion”, along with Ozric Tentacles
