Welcome to my channel! I am an avid DnD player and DM with a passion for digital content and homebrew. I spent some time figuring out the strengths and limitations of the DnDBeyond website homebrew system and found many people were un-aware of what this tool could offer them. If you are interested, check out my introduction video for a quick recap.
After about a 5 month hiatus on video generation, I spent that time creating pure homebrew content and then running it with my DnD buddies. I learned a lot about DMing: what worked for me, and what didn't work for me. I feel there are a lot of topics to cover to help DMs not only speed up their prep time, but also make things easier to implement.
On this channel you will find several series of tutorials around DnDBeyond homebrew and DM quality of life. Browse my videos and leave a comment!
If you wish to request some content for me to homebrew, message me via Discord at gamingwithnosfero or via email or a comment on a video.
The VTT compatability chrome addon "Beyond20" does make these dice rolls work perfectly. Well, except for the condition on if you roll the same value for both d8s
One problem here is that spellcasters are supposed to be able to cast these spells WITH spell slots as well. I have not been able to find a solution to this.
@@GamingWithNosfero Same. Only, I made the feat give two spells, one with the use, and the other that's just an "at will" with the condition. But your solution is equally yanky.
I honestly do not know, however, my bet is that they will not. Dndbeyond does not make money off the homebrew system so making it easier to use is not somrthing they will invest in. I myself have about 17 pages of homebrew. It will not be fun to bring them all into 2024 rules haha.
I need help adding modifiers to these racial traits, can you help me? Wide Ears. You have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks using your sense of hearing. Immunity. You are immune to diseases and the poisoned condition. You are also resistant to poison damage. Warriors. You are proficient in two weapons of your choice. Additionally, you are proficient in the Athletics skill. Magic Aversion. When you cast a spell of 1st-level or higher, you must make a Wisdom saving throw against a DC equal to 8 + the spell level. On success, nothing happens. On a a failed save, you are struck with short term madness.
Here are some recommendations I have, although the magic aversion will be hard. When you do not have any references, go to the top of the spreadsheet and look at the general guidelines. That's what I did for the condition immunities. Here is my take: Wide Ears - You have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks using your sense of hearing. -- advantage on a situational/common roll 2 or 4 -- 3 Immunity - You are immune to diseases and the poisoned condition. You are also resistant to poison damage. -- poison resistance - 4 -- immune to diseases - ribbon ability - 1 -- immune to poisoned condition - sometimes useful feature - 2 -- 7 Warriors - You are proficient in two weapons of your choice. Additionally, you are proficient in the athletics skill. -- 2 simple or 2 martial (2 or 3) + Skill proficiency 2 -- 4 or 5. Probably 5 Magic Aversion - When you cast a spell of 1st-level or higher, you must make a Wisdom saving throw against a DC equal to 8 + the spell level. On success, nothing happens. On a failed save, you are struck with short term madness. -- depends upon subclass. 0 for martial classes without spell casting. -4 for spellcasters. 11 for spellcasters, 15 for martial.
Great question! Displaying a healing ability as an attack allows the action to have dice rollers. While the homebrew system doesn't technically have a means to indicate a healing action, we sure can make a dice roller that scales appropriately so you do not have to do a manual roll.
Thanks, this was really helpful, since Wotc removed the options to buy stuff a la carte from the rulebooks and I don't wanna spend 35$ just on custom lineage race. :D Thanks again! <3
Glad it was helpful for pulling the content you already owned into DnD Beyond. Send me a message if you have something else and are not sure how it would be done.
@@GamingWithNosfero Actually I would have another request, if you'd be down to help me. I wanna use the feat "Dual Wielder" from the Player's Handbook, but I'm not sure how to build it, especially the bonus stuff "while using two one-headed weapons" and so on. My gf bought the rulebook on her account, but sadly can only share it with me for 7$ a month (or I create my character on her account), both options aren't optimal. :D
@Ex4_ Unfortunately, there are no ways to trigger a modifier when wielding two weapons in either hand. Mainly because there is no concept of left/right hand equipment slots, etc. All you would need to do is create a feat and att +1 ac modifier with written description that must be dual wielding. The feat will grant +1AC no matter what though. It isn't ideal
Glad you enjoyed it and it was helpful. If you have any questions feel free to reach out. I am getting more videos in queue and would love to brew up things people actually need. =)
This was a game changer for me as well. My boss BBEGs end up with really complex abilities so it is much easier to create them via custom statblocks than entering everything into dnd beyond specific fields.
Great video! thank you. I noticed however that some spells are unavailable in the selection. For example, Hex does not show up in the options. Any idea what might cause this?
Hex is a spell in the player's handbook, but not part of the basic rules set. My recommendation is to create the hex spell as a homebrew, and then add that new homebrew spell into the Fey Touched feat afterwards.
There are some other spells which will not show up in the Fey Touched list which *should* be in the list when you have access to all of the books. Take a look in the details section of this video for the two lists I created to highlight what is available to a brand new account, and the list of all spells Fey Touched should be able to allow. Let me know if you have any further questions!
Hello, I sent you a discord friend request, mainly because your channel is a life saver for me and I’m actually intrigued to seeing you make everything
The was actually incredibly helpful. Im someone who would prefer to homebrew everything into my beyond than buy it! I have a request and i know this one might be difficult.... but could you do clockwork soul Sorcerer? Ive gottwn everything in but coildnt find a way to allow switching spells on level up.
sorry for such a late reply! I would say that switching spells on level up requires just some spell manipulation on your character sheet when you level up. From what I have seen, there isn't a dedicated section to highlight switching spells, you just need to go into the spell section and remove/add spells.
I took a deep dive into Clockwork Soul Sorcerer. Even the official Clockwork Soul Sorcerer subclass that DnDBeyond has made does not allow changing the Clockwork magic spells like the subclass should allow. I will do a step-by-step tutorial on this subclass on how I envision achieving that. Sorry for the delay!
