It would be great if they added 2 tracks between Mooroolbark and lilydale because its the second busiest line in Melb and dont have to wait 30-40 minute instead 10-20 minutes
@babyboomertwerkteam5662 No, I know box Hill ringwood and others yes that's true but I swear when I was there either lilydale or Mooroolbark like it's already busy like the carriage seat is already filled up
Are All of the Railroad Crossings going to be Gone Forever in Australia 100%. All to be Grade Separated Bridges Only. Is it just the Passenger Trains or some Freight Trains?
Not even close and that will never happen. This project is just for the city of Melbourne and some surrounding towns. All the lines are primarily passenger lines. Despite impressive progress there will still be dozens left in Melbourne once the project wraps up as not all crossings are planned to be removed and no freight-only crossings are being removed.
Sounds good in paper but in practice some lines are going to be extremely difficult to do. Upfield has some tricky ones and the Belgrave line has where it's the only road accessing an entire area and can't be closed with an entire alternative road being built.
So when is the Glen Waverley line ever going to become level crossing free? Isn't it time that the state government stopped pussyfooting around removing level crossings on train lines that don't have a lot of traffic using them just for the sake of making those lines level crossing free and got on with removing the really busy and congested level crossings that are located at High Street in Glen Iris, Tooronga Road in Malvern, Glenferrie Road (with its tram square) in Kooyong, and Madden Grove in Burnley?
Hopefully they’ll be removed eventually! I think they look at a range of factors when deciding to remove which level crossings, such as cost, what method will need to be used, how congested the road is, and how much train traffic is due to increase in the future. Level crossings are a pain in the ass, I feel your pain.
As someone who lives in those areas and is a train enthusiast I really like them! Of course there is the need for them to be gone but in my opinion it’s nice! A level crossing museum would be cool but probably won’t happen.
I've heard that the new Croydon Station has a million dollar views looking towards the Dandenong Rangers. The E Pakenham line is almost level crossing free, the only crossing to go that I can think of is the Webster Street, Dandenong one.
And it's the busiest and most congested level crossing on that train line too. Not only that, but it takes in the trains that use the Cranbourne line as well as the ones that use the East Pakenham line, and also the V/Line services to Traralgon and Bairnsdale.
If you drive a car and are stuck at level crossing you wouldn't be saying it's a waste of money, I live on the Pakenham and Cranbourne line and have already experienced what it's like not having trains holding up traffic.
@@sandrafowler6717 oh. Piffle. I drive a car. I've lived in the Eastern suburbs all my life. The cost of these stations versus the benefit is laughable. Train stations that are empty for most of the day, and we can't get a hospital bed. Fck off.
I encourage you to go and use one of the brilliant new stations and explore the new public space created through these projects, and then come back and tell us what you think.
@@jontytheswiftie22 lol. I use Ringwood East. I wait for the train for 3 mins, then I go to work, then when I come home, I walk to my car. It's not a holiday resort or theme park. It's a train station. Waste of fcking money.
@@briancoombe3533 just because you don’t appreciate what’s being done, doesn’t mean it’s a “waste of money”. Thousands of Melburnians are over the moon about getting a brand new station and valuable community space. To claim it’s “utterly ridiculous” and a “waste of money” because you personally don’t benefit or value the work being done is, quite frankly, an immature statement.
Hi there, The boom gates are gone at Cave Hill Road which has helped make the Lilydale Line the first level crossing free train line in Melbourne. The new underpass will open in spring 2024.
Hi there, the new Ringwood East Station will feature a station concourse, a second entrance, lowered platforms accessible by lifts and stairs, improved lighting and CCTV.
Seethe? For removing dangerous interactions between cars, pedestrians and trains, build new and modern train stations, create more public space for the community and bust congestion on local roads? I think you’ll find most residents are perfectly happy with the work being done and would like to see it continue.
@jontytheswiftie22 a very small amount of residents living in the apartments next to the station have been whining all week to the states press. That and generally people kick up a small fuss at the skyrail despite them being better than trenches. Thats who i was refering to. Yes know the project hugely popular, a real winner.
Some of the nearby residents in one apartment block have complained that they were not aware of what was going on with the level crossing removal project, they would have got an information sheet and threw it away thinking it was "junk mail", I live on the Pakenham and Cranbourne line and we got an updated information sheets on the latest news on the level crossing removals. The Keon Park level crossing removal is progress so get over it, don't like it, move!!,.
This is a privacy issue, not a noise related issue that they are complaining about. Keon Park Station is next to a busy major intersection, and it is also right underneath the main flight path that uses the East-West runway to land at Melbourne Airport. If residents didn't like the noise then they wouldn't have lived there to begin with. The station could easily have been lowered into a trench. The residents probably asked for that when they first received notices about the level crossing's removal, but obviously their call for this has fallen on deaf ears. Now they are forced to have to put up with prying eyes looking onto their balconies every time that a train passes by or passengers waiting for a train are standing at the nearby station. How would you like this? As for moving, it isn't as easy to do as what you seem to think that it is.
@darrenmiles-morland8038 they are absolutely complaining about the noise. Look at any of the articles on it. As for privacy, it has a tall sound wall at around the station tracks and it's not different to living next to another apartment... it's a tiny issue, effecting a tiny amount of people but has been brought up to the level of state media. Just another attempt to throw dirt on the labour party.
@@darrenmiles-morland8038considering that every person with a street facing apartment in every city on the planet has to deal with that, I'd tell them: if you don't like having people in vague proximity to you, don't live in a city.
It was a lack of foresight by the state government to raise the railway line over the road just here. If you think about it, the state government have made a very serious blunder by not removing the level crossing that's a little bit further up the line at Settlement Road at the same time. With the closeness of Settlement Road to the Western Ring Road overpass, the only way that it will be possible to remove the level crossing there is to either lower the railway line into a trench or close the crossing completely. Settlement Road is too close to the raised railway line at Keon Parade to lower into a trench, and to close it completely would mean that traffic would have to detour a long way out of their way to use the nearest crossing points to go straight through. Does this mean that there will always be a congested level crossing at Settlement Road? Both Settlement Road and Keon Parade should have been removed at the same time, and both of them should have been lowered into trenches.
@@JTRAIN Much closer to Surrey Hills site though - the Government should be trying to increase access to public transport options, not add another 500m walk from where a station was previously located for the last 100+ years. If the argument is that all new platforms need to be straight, then there's a suitable section just to the east of the original Mont Albert station. The LXRP has permanently worsened Mont Albert and Surrey Hills, and reduced (rather than increased) these "open spaces" they're so proud of.
I would say the new East Pakenham Station which is the new terminus of the Pakenham Line and the new Union Station on the Belgrave/Lilydale line should replace both the former Mont Albert and Surrey Hills Stations then.
That’s going to be an underpass between Cheltenham Rd and the highway now, too hard to remove the crossing exactly where it is now. bigbuild.vic.gov.au/library/level-crossing-removal-project/cran-pak/webster/fact-sheets/webster-street-selecting-best-designs-factsheet-november-2023
@@theupperhiker7262 I filmed that level crossing with my digital camcorder about 5 years ago because I heard at that time that it was going to be removed soon and it still isn't even close to being removed yet.
