Is it wise to purchase coins at this time? Will the price of bitcoin continue to fall this year despite widespread claims that the market is active? How soon will cryptocurrencies fully recover? I think the biggest challenge facing coinbase and, therefore, bitcoin is political. On the one hand, the tendency to concentrate power in fewer and fewer hands, though unsustainable in the long run, in the shorthand could hand over control of most servers to a government with global control.

Amazing, read Haseeb’s blog a while ago and it’s been extremely helpful for talking with non-crypto folks. It also so nice to have a perspective that isn’t focused on “one chain to rule them all.” The blockchain world is a community of communities, and there’s nothing wrong with each community doing their own thing.
Also you should still file your losses. You can use them to offset current year gains and gains in future years. But you need to file them. Reportable but not taxable is how I think about it.

What would be amazing to see is the cross-chain user data as well. What’s the profile of someone who explores new, smaller protocols and chains rather than staying within the large market cap chains? Are they veterans with older wallets? Folks that just got in with the last year, looking to find the next chain?
