When a Home Foundation Inspection is done. Where should they place the Zip Level to take accurate measurements. Based on 2 Companies that have given me Estimates, they took the measurements at different places. The Front Door entrance measurements stated we need repair while the 2nd Company took measurements from about center of my home & stated no repair is needed. Who is giving me the correct information prior to replacing our Roof? Thank you
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel 3 дня назад
Thank you for your detailed question! The placement of the Zip Level during a home foundation inspection can indeed affect the results. Generally, a comprehensive inspection should include multiple measurement points throughout the house, not just at one specific location. Front Door Measurements: These are important as they can reveal issues with how your house is settling. If there's a significant drop or rise here, it could indicate foundation problems. Center of the Home Measurements: These can provide a more balanced view of the overall foundation health. If the center shows no issues, it might suggest that any problems are localized rather than systemic. The most accurate assessments typically come from using multiple points of reference to get a complete picture of the foundation's condition. It might be beneficial to consult with a third company for another opinion or ask for a detailed explanation from both companies on why their measurement points were chosen. Before making a major decision like replacing your roof, it's crucial to have a clear understanding of your foundation's health. Hope this helps, and best of luck with your home repairs!

Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm really sorry to hear about the issues you've faced with your fiber cement siding. It sounds frustrating to deal with cracking, discoloration, and boards coming off, especially so soon after installation. The quality and longevity of fiber cement siding can depend on several factors including the installation process, climate, and maintenance. If these boards were not installed correctly or if they're exposed to extreme weather conditions, problems like the ones you're experiencing can unfortunately arise. What if house is hillside and theres settlement 2-3" downhill. No large cracks below but floor tile in house is cracked in several rooms-House built in 47. Is that settlement or sinking?
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel 8 дней назад
Thanks for your question! It sounds like your house might be experiencing settlement, especially given its hillside location and age. Cracked floor tiles can be a sign of this. Settlement often causes gradual shifts, while sinking is more severe. Even without large cracks below, the differential settlement you mentioned could be causing those tile cracks. It’s best to consult a structural engineer to assess the situation and recommend the right course of action.

Kind of a lame video, kind of seems like a back door ad for polyurea. All the "some epoxies" disclaimers. Of course there is some truth to the video but a proper install with diamond abrasion and quality epoxy is a no brainer, Epoxy, of course, is a problematic coating is a problem outdoors. UV is an enemy of any epoxy. So outdoors is no good unless properly coated with a UV coating every so many years. I would argue almost nothing lasts in the sun, As for the heat from hot tires, not really a problem but, usually epoxy is final coated with a two part Urethane that is really, really tough when allowed to cure. Wait the days for the epoxy floor to cure!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! We appreciate your insights and understand your perspective. Our goal with this video was to highlight common issues that can arise with epoxy floor coatings, especially when not installed or maintained properly. You are absolutely right that a proper installation with diamond abrasion and quality epoxy can yield excellent results. Additionally, the use of a UV coating for outdoor applications and a final coat of two-part urethane can significantly enhance the durability and longevity of an epoxy floor. Our mention of polyurea was intended to provide viewers with an alternative option that addresses some of the specific issues associated with epoxy. However, we agree that both materials have their pros and cons, and the best choice often depends on the specific use case and installation process. Thank you for contributing to the discussion and providing valuable information for our viewers!

Hello. If the garage is from a new build as we are the first owners and garage has no wear at all, Is the diamond grinding still necessary?
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel Месяц назад
Hey Taylor! Thanks for the question. For a new garage floor, diamond grinding is still essential. It ensures the coating adheres properly by creating a rough texture which enhances the bond between the coating and the concrete. Removing contaminants that can affect adhesion. And opening concrete pores, allowing the coating to penetrate and bond more effectively, which is essential for the durability and longevity of the coating. Skipping this step can lead to peeling or cracking.

@TheHomeSolutionsChannel
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel Месяц назад
Good question! If a new homeowner prefers a different color for the polyurea-coated floor, they can easily re-coat it with a new color of polyurea. The existing coating just needs to be properly prepped-usually cleaned and lightly sanded-before applying the new layer. This makes polyurea a versatile option for anyone looking to personalize their space. Thanks for your question!

Is it normal for very light cracks the first few years in a new build here in Texas
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel Месяц назад
It's common to see very light cracks in new construction during the first few years, especially in Texas. Our soil often expands and contracts due to temperature changes and varying moisture levels, which can cause minor settling cracks. However, it's important to monitor the cracks over time. If they widen, appear at an angle, or are accompanied by other signs like sticking doors or sloping floors, it's best to consult a professional for a thorough evaluation to ensure your foundation remains stable. I have a house full of Endure Pro Via windows, all with one piece, framed screens. How would I remove a screen?
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel Месяц назад
ProVia screens typically have a spring mechanism on one side. Here's how to remove and reinsert them: 1. Identify the Components: On the screen, you'll find a small lip on the right side and springs on the inside of the left side. 2. Removing the Screen: Push the screen to the right to compress the springs. Wiggle the screen gently out of the frame. 3. Reinserting the Screen: First, place the spring side into the left side of the window frame. Push to the left to compress the springs, then align the right side of the screen and set it into the frame. I hope this helps. There are some screen thats may have the lip on the bottom and you need to lift up to compress the springs.

Will it rot?
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel Месяц назад
Great question! Vinyl siding doesn't rot, but if water gets through any gaps, it can cause the wood underneath to rot. Wood siding can rot if it's not maintained, especially in humid places like San Antonio. If you want something that doesn’t rot at all, consider James Hardie Fiber Cement siding, which we talked about in the video. It’s made to handle moisture really well. Thanks for your question!

@@TheHomeSolutionsChannel isn't the Hardie board what you see on lots of yard barns? It seems to root in my area.
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel Месяц назад
James Hardie fiber cement siding is indeed used on sheds and barns sometimes, but it shouldn't rot when properly installed. Unlike wood, it's made from cement, sand, and cellulose fibers, making it resistant to moisture, pests, and rot. If you're noticing rot issues, it might be due to improper installation, maintenance or prolonged water exposure. For example, water pooling against the base or seeping into gaps can cause the siding to swell, deteriorate, or lead to mold growth. To ensure maximum durability, it's essential that the siding is properly installed with adequate sealing and maintained to keep it performing at its best. We're happy to help with any concerns to ensure your siding performs at its best. Thanks for bringing this up!

You also have to paint or powder coat fiberglass. Who wants paint peeing and chipping over the long term. Another benefit for vinyl as long as you don't get the painted stuff and stick to the extruded colors.
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel Месяц назад
Thank you for bringing up this point! You're right that fiberglass windows can require painting or powder coating, which can lead to peeling or chipping over time if not maintained properly. This is indeed something to consider when choosing between vinyl and fiberglass. Vinyl windows, particularly those with extruded colors, do offer the advantage of color stability and low maintenance, as they don't require painting. It's important for homeowners to consider how much maintenance they're willing to undertake and the aesthetic they prefer for their home's exterior. If anyone is weighing these options, it’s crucial to consider the climate and the home’s exposure to elements, as these factors can affect the longevity and performance of both vinyl and fiberglass windows. Seal failure is seal failure … how can we say there’s minor seal failure? The gas is gone either way
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel Месяц назад
Thank you for pointing out an important aspect of seal failures in windows. You’re right, once the seal fails and the insulating gas escapes, the window's energy efficiency is compromised. When we mention "minor seal failure," we're usually referring to the early signs, such as slight condensation or minimal fogging, which might not be immediately severe but do indicate an issue. It's vital for homeowners to understand that any level of seal failure can affect window performance. This knowledge is crucial when deciding between glass replacement and a full window replacement, especially considering factors like the window's age and the extent of damage. Consulting a professional can provide clearer direction based on your specific situation.

To address these issues, it might be helpful to first consult with a certified installer to inspect the siding and determine if there’s a need for any repairs or if there are underlying problems that need addressing. Would be good to see comparisons, having the same window with both to really compare. Are there any cases at all where we can make a case for either? For example, for a 71" X 39" "standard" window, I really wonder what it would look like with vertical blinds.
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel Месяц назад
Thank you for the suggestion! Choosing between horizontal and vertical blinds depends on your preference and space needs. Vertical blinds are great for large openings like sliding doors, providing easy access, while horizontal blinds suit smaller windows, enhancing privacy and light control. For a visual, try searching "71" X 39" window with vertical blinds" online. Though often used on doors, vertical blinds can also work well on windows. When selecting blinds, consider the room's layout and function. Mixing both in one area can create a unified look-vertical for large spaces and horizontal for smaller areas. We appreciate your idea and will think about showcasing this flexibility in a future video to help you tailor blinds to your space and style.

Ventilation: Continue using industrial fans to improve airflow. 2. Inspection: Have the returning company check the mix and application. 3. Curing Process: Verify if the curing time was sufficient for your specific polyurea type. 4. Top Coat: Consider a different top coat that might block odors. 5. Reapplication: If necessary, re-grind and re-apply the coating. 6. Second Opinion: Getting advice from another flooring expert might also help. Persistent odors are uncommon and can be addressed with these steps. Keep us posted on your situation, and share any successful fixes to help others with similar problems.

Why can’t I get fiberglass windows that are hurricane compliant? I have to buy an extra hurricane shutter on top of the window at great added expense.

@TheHomeSolutionsChannel 2 месяца назад
Thank you for reaching out with your question! It’s a good one, especially when considering the safety features of windows in hurricane-prone areas. Here’s a bit of insight: The technology for creating fiberglass windows that are fully hurricane-compliant is still in development. Fiberglass windows offer many benefits, but when it comes to meeting the rigorous safety standards set for hurricane zones, they often require an additional layer of protection. That’s why additional hurricane shutters are commonly recommended or even required to ensure your home is adequately protected against strong winds and flying debris. The need for these shutters does add to the expense, but it's all about ensuring maximum safety and compliance with local building codes in areas that experience hurricanes. It's a crucial step in safeguarding your home, and we're here to help guide you through understanding these requirements and finding the best options for your needs.

Finding a quality contractor may be the top consideration moving forward. I'll continue my searches but thanks again.

So glad that it was helpful. That is what we have noticed the most, is there are a lot of people that pick up Hardie at a Home Depot and install it for half the price but then it doesn't last as long. A true Hardie installer should be certified to install it as it was intended from James Hardie. That's why we find ourselves ripping out a lot of Hardie and reinstalling it correctly. It's extremely frustrating for the home owner. Here is a video you can check out for one of those people if you are interested. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_QllQtCP-mE.html If you have any other questions about James Hardie siding don't hesitate to reach out and let us know. Hi thank you for video. Could you tell me I’ve recently had an oak sash window replace because of road noise. I was advised that having an ova window with acoustic glass will stop the noise by at least 90% but this has not been the case. I’m unable to use the room for myself because of the noise. Would this be because it’s a bad fitted window or was I lied to with regards to replacing the old window seeing it’s probably only reduced the noise by around 5p10%.

Thank you for stopping by the channel! Sound reduction in a room depends on many things, not just the window but also the installation in the walls and the roof. Oak and special glass should help reduce noise, if indeed Oak was still the new window frame. However, if the window wasn't installed properly, especially if the gaps weren't filled correctly, it might not block sound as well as expected. Proper installation, from the walls up to the window is key to making sure you get the most noise reduction. And if you replaced a square window with an oval window then all that gap space needs to be meticulously insulated to ensure no additional sound comes in. I hope this helps and allows you a better idea of how your window was installed. If you want to share more detail please feel free and we are happy to help the best that we can.

When it rain, there is a large puddle of water. Around my house. the Concrete slab foundation is cracking .
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel 3 месяца назад
Thank you for sharing your concern with us. It sounds like the water pooling around your house during rain could be contributing to the foundation issues you're experiencing. Water accumulation near the foundation can lead to soil expansion and contraction, which often results in cracking. I recommend checking your drainage systems, like gutters and downspouts, to ensure they are directing water away from your home efficiently. Additionally, you might consider consulting with a foundation repair specialist or a structural engineer who can assess the situation and suggest specific remediation actions. It’s crucial to address these issues early to prevent further damage. Please stay safe and let us know if you have any more questions!

so a house of 3600 sq ft - will cost $144k ? That's insane !!! (3600/100) * $4000 = $144k

Your concern is warranted when it comes to the size of this project and it's price. Thank you for bringing this up! My first question would be does the figure of 3600 sq ft refer to the specific area that would be sided or the entire house footprint? The difference could go a long way in getting you a more specific price that you might be happier with. Our aim with this pricing is to ensure you receive the utmost quality and value for the services provided, covering labor, materials, and our guarantee of excellence. There are a lot of variables that can go into the price of a James Hardie installation and we understand it's important to get the best value. I'd be more than happy to walk you through the details or explore options that fit your budget and expectations. Please don't hesitate to reach out for a more in-depth discussion.
