I generally ignore "Godzilla, King of the Monsters!" because the changes made to the original make it almost like a parallel Earth version. It's not the original, not just a translation, not a sequel. Just an Americanization because the distributor felt it would be more popular to local audiences that way. It's kind of like "Never Say Never Again" in the Bond franchise. Thank you for your comment! ☺

He also lost to Silva when he killed M in Skyfall so can we just out and say that Craig (in an attempt to make the character more realistic) is the most ineffective 007?
@jasonmichaelhamelin9181
@jasonmichaelhamelin9181 15 дней назад
Precisely. It is remarkable how often he lost, and how much he lost. Silva jokes that Bond can't protect his women, but it is true. When he succeeded in completing a mission, it was usually with lots of outside help. I don't mind this. I think Bond needed a reinvention, and telling this five-part story about this particular Bond reset my expectations.

True, but there are Bond girls and there is "the girl". By formula, there is one girl that is the main romantic interest for Bond, and he almost always winds up with her in the final scene. Camille was a Bond girl in that she was in a Bond film, but so was Strawberry Fields...and Bond did more than kiss that one. 😉

This is my understanding in a nutshell. 1. Bond sees that Le Chiffre has a "tell", and informs Mathis and Vesper. 2. Le Chiffre fakes his "tell" to trick Bond. Bond thinks Mathis is a traitor (because he is in love with Vesper and trusts her). 3. Vesper is actually the traitor because Le Chiffre's organization kidnapped her lover (who actually works with that organization and deceives women for them). 4. Bond is captured and tortured by Le Chiffre in order to get the poker winnings, which Le Chiffre needs to repay what he owes. 5. During the torture, Le Chiffre lies to Bond and says Mathis was HIS friend. This might be to protect Vesper's new position as a coerced double agent, or just to muddy things up in Bond's mind to aid in the torture. 6. Vesper is in love with Bond and has secretly arranged to turn the poker winnings over to the organization in exchange for Bond's rescue. 7. Later, when the poker winnings are not properly transferred to MI6, Bond realizes that Vesper was the traitor and follows her to the monet drop-off. Vesper dies. 8. When M suggested that Mathis was cleared, Bond says he might still be dirty. MI6 takes Mathis into custody to investigate this. This was M trusting Bond's judgement (but Bond was wrong) and Bond still not fully processing Vesper's betrayal. Mathis had very underhanded methods and did a lot of "friends" dirty, but it was in service of MI6. It is easy to see him as someone that is hard to trust or might easily betray you, but he was always loyal and was a friend and ally to Bond. Mathis was always innocent, but Bond wasn't even considering that Vesper might have been the traitor.

@jasonmichaelhamelin9181 thank you sir . I see all your points but somehow didn't figure out that vesper was truly the traitor. Though Connery's Bond was a classic, I think Roger Moore's "campy satirical Bond was when Bond really hit stride marking the "true" formula for Bond. I think the "peak" Bond was Brosnan. He took a bit of Dalton's seriousness, with a lot of Moore's campy satire and had the perfect formula. Also the Brosnan films had huge over the top action, fun crazy gadgets, etc.. When someones says a Bond film, I immediately picture Brosnan and his films. I personally think some in the studio wanted to "end" the bond films once and for all, and with Brosnan that was not possible. They got rid of Brosnan, brought on Craig, turned it into a soap opera, all the while copying bourne films leaving behind the real Bond formula, to be able to kill him off.
@jasonmichaelhamelin9181
@jasonmichaelhamelin9181 Месяц назад
I have films I love from each Bond. For Connery, it is "Dr No" and, especially, "From Russia With Love". Bond really had a worthy adversary there. For Moore, and I know this might be contentious, my fondness lies with "For Your Eyes Only". So minimal. Lazenby's Bond ties into that film, as Moore's Bond visits his wife's grave and he gets his final revenge on Blofeld. Dalton's outings were interesting, and the Brosnan's were long-awaited. There is something to be said for all of those iterations. With Craig's Bond, I appreciated the shift towards something more grounded, with the campy aspects still getting referenced with a wink. (Iva Broadchest, for example, and "I showed him your watch. It blew his mind.") Individual films might have been hit-or-miss across the board, but each version of Bond brought something to the table. Thank you for your comment.

They definitely should have just skipped the love triangle storyline. Rouge and Magneto never even had any interest of each other in the 90's animated series. It was definitely forced if u remember watching the 90's animated series Magneto didn't care that Rouge live or die. And Rouge was concerned about Gambit safety in Sanctuary than Magneto funeral. And I'm also pretty sure that Rouge and Gambit were already a couple on the show. But the writers of X-men 97 retcon it having us think it never happen. They did that just because it happen in the comics books not every comic book needs to be adapted.

A lot of things were rushed and incomplete. A lot of things were unnecessary, or could have been achieved with more creative writing. For example, did we need Maddie at all? Jean could have been pregnant, Sinister could have made a play for the baby as a weapon against Apocalypse or as a safeguard (techno-organic virus) against Bastion (like a double-cross). Everything would've played out as we saw it without a meaningless Goblin Queen (empty Inferno) blip of an "arc".

I get you. You liked it. I don't care if it is 100% comic accurate. Changes have to be made. No Colossus on the main team? Fine. Gambit died in Genosha? Okay. There was, and still is, no Morph in the comics. This is all fine. It's not about the pace. It's about the waste. Once these stories are told, they can't be told again without a reboot. No episode-spanning conversations needed, just flesh out the main plots (Jean's return, baby Nathan, OZT) more. There is lots of action to be had. Glad you liked it. Thanks for your perspective.

I understand your critique but it just tells me that you don't know anything about production budgets needed to create an animation series, do you? You need to focus less on your philosophical "storytelling currency" and focus more on the reality of financial currency that goes into negotiating limited-term contracts to hire resources to produce an entire 10-episode series. It takes a month to create a 22 page comic book. It takes much longer, and a lot more people to create and produce one animated episode. Maybe research the business of animation vs the business of comic books, and research the production process of each --because the business of animation is very different from the business of comics, and research what it takes (in effort, time, resources and in finances) to produce both formats first before you complain about what you don't like, and you'll understand why animations produce less content than comic books, and then your content will be more informed for your audiences.

Consolidating my posts under the proper user name. My apologies. You didn't understand my criticism at all. This wasn't a video to "inform" my audience. It was an opinion piece. If you disagree with my opinion, that's fine. It doesn't change the fact that a lot of rich storylines were wasted. It would cost the studio as much to flesh out a storyline properly as it would to skimp on four or five storylines for the sake of having threadbare "content". If you liked season 1, good for you. I know the source material very well, and by rushing it like this the plots had no emtional impact on me. I feel the storylines were rushed and wasted. Let me ask you: What was your favorite scene with baby Nathan? How did Storm grow and change as a result of the loss of her powers? Why did Madelyne choose the name Goblin Queen? Why did the Phoenix force suddenly come back, and just as suddenly leave? There were just events...not stories. Again, you are so focused on what you think I know or do not know that you ignore my point. Production budget is irrevelant. If they made 10 episodes fleshing out two arcs fully, or if they made 10 episodes not exploring five or six arcs, how would that be different in your eyes? Tell me how much more expensive it would have been to make a 10 episode season about, for example, the birth of Nathan and Sinister's plot to control Nathan? They could've revealed Jean's return more slowly, explored Madelyne's origins more fully, shown Scott's turmoil about his feelings, added more of Logan's love for Jean, hinted at Apocalypse's return, kept Magneto's running of the school and Xavier's return, etc. Would that have cost more than the season they made? Or less? Or the same? I think it would have cost the same, and the writers would have been left with lots of unexplored plotlines for the already approved and in production season 2. No Storm losing and regaining powers. No establishment and destruction of Genosha. No severely trimmed Fatal Attractions. No start and finish of OZT. Those could have been used later on, along with Age of Apocalypse, E is for Extinction, and so on. My concern is larger than XM97. I gave examples of Sony's Spider-Man, Fox's X-Men, and the DCEU which did the same thing. Thrown away rich storylines in trivial one-offs. I look forward to you sharing some budget information about XM97.

@@Murdock13 that's the thing. from a fan perspective, I don't disagree with you that getting more time for more content would have been great. but from a production perspective, which is the reality of the situation, I understand why they did what they did. is the show perfect? no. did it feel rushed at some parts? yes. but based on what you stated in your own video, I think your opinion would be more informed if you understood more about how the business of animation runs and how time plays a big factor in what you can and cannot fit, and the types of time limits and human resource limits it takes to produce a series. if you understood that the point of ADAPTING a 30+ year narrative into a BUDGETED 10-episode production with no guarantee of getting picked up for a season 2, you would not expect the creators of the show to do what you wish they would have done with your "storytelling currency" notion. the decisions made in compressing the comic book stories to fit a 10 week, 10-episode arc format are all practical budgetary and time decisions. the narrative strategy for 97 looks like the creative team chose a few major comic book storylines to adapt, and knew they had 30 mins per each episode to get their story from episode 1 to episode 10. they took and mixed comic book original stories, knew they had to compress it, and chose one bullet point from each story adaptation to present to the audience to move their narrative along. did they cut out some meaty stuff? they sure did. did they have to? with the narrative structure they set up, they had to. to the point of seeing this from a practical production standpoint, people have been contracted to deliver a product and once those contrasts are agreed to and signed, people only have a certain amount of time to do the work needed to complete the production they were contracted for. if the producers gave you the type of luxurious pacing you wanted, comparing it to the pacing of how the stories were told in the comic books, the production of each season would take longer to make -which means audiences have longer to wait until the next season-and the production will be too expensive to create because time IS LITERALLY money, and companies only have so much money to pay people for the time it takes to create (and finish) a product like one season of an animated series. when I observe the fan reaction videos on RU-vid, I notice only the comic book purists like you who like to say "I know how the story was supposed to be told because the comics did it this way....etc" are complaining about the lack of content you are seeing because you are comparing apples to oranges -in this case comparing an animated adaptation to a comic book source material-but fans who do not read the comics do not have the same expectations as you, and yet they are being thoroughly entertained, are experiencing the narratives for the first time and enjoying them, and are being inspired to go back and buy the comic books to read the stories - which is a marketing and sales win for Marvel and Disney because they just increased the fan base and readership to now reach the non-comic book reading mainstream audience and captured them as new customers - this new audience is one of the main audience targets of the TV show - they are targeting TV watchers, (x-fans who were introduced to the franchise through the movies and cartoons) not necessarily comic book readers, who are already customers of the product. since the experience of reading a comic book is different from that of watching a half hour animated episode, (comic books you can read at your own pace, animated shows the pacing is dictated for the viewer) - in this instance, most of the episodes were only half an hour. with 10 episodes at 1/2 hour each, I would hope fans like you would be more reasonable if not with your own expectations, but also before you put out opinion videos. I'm not robbing you of your opinion, I am just trying to give you the facts in case it helps you create more responsible and informed opinion videos, rather than uninformed opinions which does not add credibility to your perspective. it just sounds like you're complaining they didn't make enough content for you, and you don't know why. and by the way, I work in the entertainment industry and I work with contracts for animation companies for my job and have to negotiate time, money and budgets all the time. my responses are informed by my industry experience.

@@tunasammiches Again, you are missing my point. Budgeting for a 10 episode season with one or two solid arcs and budgeting for a 10 episode season with five or six arcs would cost the same from a production standpoint. The only difference is the writing. I can watch the various Justice League series, Young Justice, Teen Titans Go!, Invincible, or whatever adapted Japanese anime you choose. If it's adapted from source material, or if it is created solely for a viewing audience on TV or streaming (based on existing characters or not), the point is to make a story that people get invested in and make them come back for more. If XM97 did that for you, great. I came back every week to see what was going to happen, too. But if you tell a story, it is told. You can't tell it again without rebooting. You didn't answer my questions. "Let me ask you: What was your favorite scene with baby Nathan? How did Storm grow and change as a result of the loss of her powers? Why did Madelyne choose the name Goblin Queen? Why did the Phoenix force suddenly come back, and just as suddenly leave?" Or less? Or the same?" It is not about cost, and you have given no reason for them to cram in so many unfleshed out plotlines. You also repeat the misconception that they made a 10 episode season with no expectation of a second season when they had greenlit two seasons from the start and the second season was already written and in production before season 1 started airing. They knew they would have at least two seasons years ago.

@@jasonmichaelhamelin9181 again, to answer your question it's all about cost and economy of time - including writing decisions and creative strategies. when producing content for public consumption, everything -EVERYTHING-including all creative decisions are driven by budgets and costs, due to the amount of time and resources it takes to make them. if you don't realize that, then its evident you don't understand how productions work. the original writer had a 5 year plan of narrative content. if Disney only bought 20 episodes for 2 seasons and the creative team had already pitched (and gotten approval) and delivered a 5 year plan, or even a 2 year plan, that means the creative team worked within those parameters to try to fit what they had already mapped out because all that work is already done - and if they had to go in and re-work content or add content due to late network decisions like approving a new season, that would incur a change order and more money to pay them to do any extra work. again there was no guarantee Disney would purchase more than the first 2 seasons, but their own creative decisions required them to weave the content they chose to adapt through the narratives they chose to tell. DC cartoons like justice league and batman - those seasons from 20 years ago did not work with the modern day streaming legality and regulations, they worked with tv rules when budgets would allow for 22-26 episodes per season so you can't compare those apples to the x-men '97 oranges. costs have risen, contracts are negotiated differently and content is deployed differently under the streaming model. the quality of animation and special effects is higher, while the content deployed to the audience is compressed and more limited. if you can't see beyond your perspective as a fan who just wants more, you're not being fair to the reality of production restrictions. and no, the creative team didn't know Disney were going to buy more than the original 10. things like that are determined by the budgets and those budget decisions are finalized in shorter timelines than you think,, and is not in production yet, its been in development but it's in PRE-production right now, and if you followed the animators on their social media accounts you'll know they're all resting now until they get to start working on production for season 2. if the ratings for season 1 did not go well, Disney can halt development and the pre-production phase would not be able to move forward to the production phase and the show can still be cancelled or go unaired (like the batgirl movie) without ever seeing air time.
@tunasammiches
@tunasammiches 3 месяца назад
@@jasonmichaelhamelin9181 my short answer is this: when creating productions for live audiences, every single decision - including narrative choices for how much content to fit/make - are dictated by budgets and costs. The second season is in in production, but not where animators have started their work. if you follow the animators who work on the show, you'll see they have not started putting pencils to paper yet and are currently taking a break until their contract starts for the next season, so they haven't even gotten to the production phase yet much less the post-production phase. if season 1 of '97 didn't perform well (which can only be monitored in real time and not predicted for budgeting), even though the network signed on for 2 seasons, it does not guarantee completion of the production phase or even airing any future episodes (like they did with some CBS streaming shows and the batgirl movie that nobody will ever see even though they completed post-production on the whole movie). remember, it took 3 years to get season 1's 10 episodes produced. these things take a lot of time and to expect more content, with the story mapped out for this next season that work has been done but the physical work of bringing it to life still needs to be done. it's going to take at least a year for the next one to be produced. anything after that is not guaranteed if season 2 doesn't do well. you cannot compare DC animated shows that were 22-26 episodes for TV 20 years ago to the same streaming regulations and limitations of today. those are apples and oranges.
@Flynn01979
@Flynn01979 3 месяца назад
The logic for it seeming rushed would be because they didn't even know if the show was going to to renewed or not. Marvel/ Disney only gave them 10 episodes. So, I think all they were trying to do was get in as many stories as they wanted to tell. Just in case Disney decided to pull the plug. The OG run of this show was done far cheaper, which allowed for them to produce more episodes per season.

A few other people have said this, but the show was approved for two season almost from the start. Prior to season 1 airing, season 2 had already been written and was in production. It is more of a worry than a complaint. The writers have a deep and rich library of lore to draw from and adapt, but once they tell a story, that coin is spent. I know the source material so I disagree that there was "amazing writing" and I am worried that the writers will continue not letting plotlines breathe going forward. They didn't need to touch on a lot of these plotlines this season. Did Storm "need" to lose her powers? Did we "need" this version of Fatal Attractions? Did we "need" Madelyne Pryor and the Goblin Queen? Did the reveal that Cable was Nathan "need" to happen this season, or could it be revealed next season (since Scott and Jean are in the future and can see young Nathan grow up)? They just have to change it so that Nathan is actually Jean's son, and Sinister still had a hand in arranging their pairing and steals Nathan to infect him. No Madelyne needed. Between '92 and '97, they managed to tell a version of Phoenix/Dark Phoenix. It took 9 episodes. They changed a lot of things related to Jean's comic book arc to do it, and it was great all-the-same. I am not going to moan if things are different from the source material, as long as they tell good stories.

Because they're not assuming anything. Or to put it another way like a real life analogy, it's like they're not living life presuming that they're going to live to be age 80+ guaranteed. They have no idea how many seasons they'll get. Sure, a 5+ year slow burn storyline would be awesome. But to assume you're going to get that is folly and pride and it's a mistake so many other shows, movies, entire "cinematic universes" (cough DCEU cough) have fallen into and I'm frankly tired of it. They saw the opportunity in front of them and were like, "Fuck it, we're gonna go all out, balls out because who the fuck knows if we're gonna get another chance." And that was the right choice.

My God. Finally. A video with common sense. Anyone who prioritizes important storytelling elements like character development and interweaving of storylines, foreshadowing, etc. will see the absolute mess that X-Men 97 is. @jasonmichaelhamelin9181
@jasonmichaelhamelin9181 3 месяца назад
Agreed. When Storm lost her powers in the comics, she left the team, found out more about herself, came back and proved her value as a leader (even powerless), and rejoined the team. The character got to grow, and when she regained her powers she had become a different person in a lot of ways. If they weren't going to explore that, there was no reason to have her lose her powers in this season. Magneto had his mnd wiped after attacking Wolverine and not seeming to rip his adamantium out. Maybe he did, and they can explore that in the next season, and he can try to get it restored, but it sure didn't look like it was ripped out to me. And then, Magneto's mind was restored immediately, so he can carry on with the adventure next season. It's like they didn't think OZT was enough and had to tack Fatal Attractions (which was written to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the X-Men) on top of it. Fatal Attractions could have spanned an entire season. Anyway, I am happy that someone feels the same loss that I did. It seems like most of the comments here don't see how empty the "tree of plotlines" is after so much fruit has been picked and left to rot.

They took their time, adapted the stories to fit the format and character roster, and made an amazing series. That was masterpiece level. This was not. Initial d did go until the end and im grateful but it cut a lot of stuff out, and Hyouka had one season with a weird "does the story continue or not?" ending so i understand very painfully much. Unfortunately hyouka came out when manga wasn't very popular in my country so no official retail version exists and the "alternative" *wink wink* versions on the internet are very low quality. PS: the "alternitive" versions look so low quality that i can't help but suspect a mild amount of vandalizm and trying to scan pages without breaking the book spine on the home printer shenanigans (i saw this with initial d manga as well but it was released in '95 so i can cut it some slack).
