I was at United Nations One (a hotel) in New York City. I'd just got done seeing a Broadway musical (Mama Mia), and had a very bad migraine due to the loud music (great performance though) and a head injury from hitting my head on the top of the cab's door frame. My friend and I went into the elevator, intent to get back to our room and rest. In walks about four men, one of them carrying a musical instrument case. He wasn't overly tall, had darker skin (reminded me of someone from the Mediterranean), and dark curls. He looked very familiar to me, but I couldn't place him through my pain and exhaustion. So, I gestured to his instrument and asked "are you in a band?" He looked at me, dead panned, and said "oh, just a little group called Hall and Oates." It was, indeed, John Oates. I couldn't help but laugh and say, "oh. that's why you look so familiar!" He smiled and chuckled at that.
I live in LA, and work in a derm clinic I see celebs and TikTokers RU-vidrs basically every day, I can't recognize every one of them, now everyone can be an influencer.
Actually, I walked past Jennifer Lawrence on the set of X-Men: First Class when the actors were waiting for the setup for the next scene. She had no prosthetic makeup on and was dressed in regular clothes. I didn't even recognize her untill it was too late. Oh well.
