Massive factual error, NO, PLAYER PIANOS AND PIANOLAS AREN'T THE SAME THING. Aeolian made player pianos called "Pianolas" and they also made the Duo-Art player system which could reproduce dynamics exactly as the arranger of the roll wanted. There was also the Ampico, Welte Mignon, Artrio Angelus and Recordo systems among others that could play with dynamic control. And the last thing, the self playing piano wasn't popular until around the 1910s, the first completely integrated player pianos were made in the 1880s and in small numbers. It was after 1899 that the cabinet upright players really took off! People have got to get their facts straight dammit
The possibility of recording the playing of a musician with all its subtleties and later playing it back pneumatically on other instruments from the same manufacturer, while these can still be played normally, was patented in 1904 for pianos and in 1912 for organs by the company M. Welte and Sons from Freiburg in Germany. also a device which can be pushed to an already existing normal piano in order to automate it with the same technology. The innovation on the Edelweiss pianos is the possibility to control them wirelessly via MIDI and to record pieces digitally and easily at home.
