Loving the lights for different voice levels, gonna' see if I can add that to my setup next year. There's definitely a larger focus on making the classrom your own in the US, at least compared to here in Denmark. It's really cool to see how much time and effort is spent on making the room inviting and functional.
Best of luck to you. I hope that your first year went well. The incoming group of fourth graders are going to be a challenge academically because they were in kindergarten when schools shut down in 2020. Many did their schooling online in first grade, and they will need extra support with foundational skills in reading and math. I hope that you will get the support and resources necessary from your administrators and staff to help your students. Thank you for your video presentation. Take care.
I loved watching this! Good luck this school year. Seeing new teachers makes me so happy, I think they are able to reach kids much better, at least it did for me back in school. I know this year will be great and I'll stay tuned for more of your videos.
I really need to start making more things. I spent so much money buying things. I didn’t have time at all to do anything because I’m going back into the classroom after the year has already started out.
Hiii! It is going really well! I love it so far! I've always loved working with kids, so I knew this career path was for me. Definitely try to get some part-time jobs or hours in a school, whether it is volunteering or after school programs! That's usually a great start, and how I started too! Best way to know is to get out there and try it! :)
I basically got 2 and a half days. Plus we had 2 weeks of new teacher training. And the previous teacher left everything which was kind of nice but it was just too much.
You are very lucky that your Back to School Night was on a Thursday because you just had to make it through Friday. Were you able to get that table leg fixed? Be sure to have a great relationship with your custodians because they are life savers when it comes to desks and chairs. You might have noticed that your incoming fourth graders might be struggling with reading and math. They were first graders when everything shut down in March 2020 and that is the magic time in which their sounds and reading skills come together. Just remember to meet them where they are and they will meet your expectations. Take care and enjoy your day off on Monday. You have completed one month of school.
Thank you for the kind words, John! At the time, I still wasn't able to get the leg fixed but I turned the table and stuck some dictionaries under the leg momentarily. Luckily no parents said anything. Yes, definitely thankful for a BTSN on a Thursday!
You might not be able to have a refrigerator in your classroom per Williams Facilities Rules in California. Find strength in what goes well during the day and try not to focus too much on what did not go well. That was the advice that I was given by my third grade teacher when I started teaching back in 1992. This is my 30th year in the profession and I have been teaching fourth grade for five years. Best of luck to you.
i'm currently onto week 2 and this has been one of the best pieces of advice i've recieved yet. thank you so much for that and for sharing your story. best of luck to you as well!!!
You’re going to do great and they are going to love you! I’m a first year teacher as well, Tenth grade English. I’m considering a blog as well. Good luck boo can’t wait to see the growth!!
