The MRL came into existence solely as a union busting tactic. Denny Washington called BN locomotive engineers overpaid trick drivers. I know because I was there. BN/BNSF 1978-2010
That was never it, PTC is the real reason. 4014 now has PTC installed & certified. You may still see a diesel occasionally though as having the dynamic braking and the peace of mind of a backup is still beneficial.
@@therocinante3443 Well, friend. Now you know. There will be more tunnels during 4014's trip to California, and during the return trip to Cheyenne. If you found the tunnel, the locations where the tunnels are (including the Hermosa tunnel) were the great places to catch 4014 closing her stack hoods. if you're in the side where Big Boy enters the tunnel, 4014's hoods are closed, and if you're on the other side, once 4014 came out, the hoods will open again.
I'll be checking out Bozeman in a few months (Mid August to be exact), since that's where Montana Rail Link went through there, can I expect to see BNSF then?
I dont know why I love watching trains; it leaves me speechless & in awesome wonder; its like to me, it is a represent of the blood & backbone of the land, the community town and the whole country collectively and humankinds strength and force in the world; and its like, we dont even need the arm forces, or guns & canyons to win a battle about anything, as long as we got a moving train, we can always move forward ahead and transport civilization right here on earth, on the ground, and that, we dont even need to get up there in the air.

I really need an insider info on this as soon as I can get it. My family and I are going to Silvis Illinois Friday night just to see this locomotive and I have no idea where to catch it at in Silvis let alone a time frame. Any info on this consist and directions/ lines would be very much appreciated.
@@AWGarage614 You can probably find the information you’re looking for on the website of Railroading Heritage of Midwest America. Them and Uncle Pete did publicly post the schedule for the move.
@@UnionPacificRailfan2018 The challengers class, and big boys class tenders are exactly the same. Or would they give them a tender that looks slightly different. I've never had the time to really study their tenders side by side.
The tender with the 3985 right now is the tender for big boy 4014. The reason why it’s being sent is the tender was a coal burning one so it’s being sent to be refurbishment and be converted to burn oil. Once complete the heritage foundation crew will return the 4014 tender and in return the UP Steam Program crew will send the 3985s tender
