Thank you so much for this post, I was bothered by the similar sound of my Honda Accord, in my case the fluid was at its min level mark, I tried take about 250ml fluid out of the reservoir and filled with compatible new fluid, magic happened, no more hmmm sound, end up replaced more fluid , my car is quiet again ever since.

Wow! You just prevented me from getting a headache (along with a NEW car!). My 'Honda car was making the SAME sound and I had the SAME problem. Who would have thought that it would be the power steering fluid! Thanks so much!

That’s power steering pump i think you have leak thats causing the pump to suck air that then causing loud pump noise check the fluid level

I had the same issue, turned out my power steering pump was leaking internally for years(I knew about it but never did anything until now lol), eventually it started leaking to the point air was entering and making the pump whine, I recall the small leak from almost 3 years ago. If you have a leak, check the low and high pressure hoses at the pump and see if their leaking, mine looked like it was but I tried the "oring replacement" but it did ot solve it but its worth a try their cheap anyways. Topping off was making it go away but I had to replace the power steering pump anyways cause the whine was coming back the next day due to the leak getting worse.

This happened to my Honda Civic 2008 LX as well. The issue was due to low power steering fluid. Topped up the power steering fluid and the issue disappeared.

Hey anyone out there have this issue I read the comments and people are saying it’s either the powersteering or the belt/idler pulley I checked power steering but I have an SI and ours is electric steering so my next guess is the belt and idler pulley my belt does look worn as hell. So might give it a shot might as well. Also my AC/ compressor not working so not sure if that might have something to do with it

My car steering is run by motor aka electric power steering -EPS. IM PRETTY LUCKY to have it.

I have the same issue, I changed out the power steering pump and it's still there.

Sounds identical to a car I test drove, however, the noise seemed to disappear after 1st gear, or either it disappeared at a certain speed.

I don't speak English but I'll try. And I know that many years have passed! 🫢. but I know that someone who passes by here can use it. My car had the same problem, it sounded horrible, and I didn't have a trusted mechanic since being a woman makes me feel uncomfortable going anywhere alone. so when it sounded too much I checked and the problem was so simple, it lacked POWER STEERING FLUID! almost nothing was going. and already the rudder after a while becomes hard. I hope it helps someone!

Your power steering pump is cavitating due to air in line because of low fluid. Top up fluid , start car (leave it in park), and turn steering right to left a couple times to get the air out. After that you shoud be good to go.

This is the radiator fan motor noise. The sound only increase with acceleration. Fan automatically turns on to cool down the car. Its no big issue and you can drive your car. Solution is to change the fan motor and problem will be fixed.

Power steering fluid needs to be topped off and if it the noise comes back on then you may have a leak, I had the same issue.

If ipower steering fluid top-up stops the noise, do we need to replace any parts? Like the Power Steering Pump and Rack-and-pinion subsystem?

This is awesome. I was hoping it wasn’t the dreaded hydraulic engine mount issue I hear people talking about. Added fluid, noise gone. Anyone else know of other common issues to look for on these Civics? I have an 07 EX and thinking of getting at least one more for family.
