I noticed you’re popping your Ollies too early. Wait a little longer until your wait clears the board and your back leg is basically straight. You don’t even need to pop that hard just jump off the ball of the foot and let your leg extend.
Thank you. This is advice I’ve had before and probably the one I forget most. I’m panicking and trying to fire the Ollie off, yet when I jump normally I’m waaay more extended before I leave the floor (if that makes sense). Thanks for taking the time to watch btw!!🙏🏻
Those nose slides are getting better dude! Anytime I skate I go in with the mentality of doing something, anything, just a little better than the last time.
Man, sometime i need to warm up for one hour also. Usually it takes around 30min. I can say that you are doing great and i know in what pain you are in. Sometimes bananas keep me also alive lol That nose slide was nice, soon you a re gonna do epic ones!
Skateiq just put a good ollie video for beginners with practice steps that helped me to learn. I'm ur age in started bout 6 months ago my ollies are getting better now.
oh that video is good. but i find it hard to put those things into practice (most of all doing massive hippie jumps... that is a scary challenge for me in the first place). What kind of things have you been learning so far?
Loved the little shuvit at 11min. Knees bent nicely and linking in a little turn/revert. You looked well warmed up at that moment. I'm 45 and it takes me a good 30m to loosen up at the skatepark, but then I find you get in the flow, think less and just do.
The theme in this week’s comments seems to be about thinking less… glad you spotted that shuv. Nice to get one landed as a nice add-on. Thanks so much for watching!
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vdfoa41ArDE.html been doing a similar drill from this video - the popping with the toe part is really good ollie practice and my old guy version of the caveman is either to go off a kerb form more time or just do a front foot step on - has helped my no complys too
Everyday I see someone caveman or no comply on a bank and it looks so calm… I can’t believe what a stress it is on flat.i battle with the idea the rotation (on no comply) has to be perfect every time.🤷🏻♂️
I'd call that a proper nose slide for sure! You're an over thinker (me too!), if you can get to that stage where you just ''shut up and do it'' it can hurt a little more but, the gains are un deniable. The difference between the nose slides in this video and your last session on that curb is undeniable. 🤙
The connection is starting feel instinctive and hopefully that means I can stfu and just get them done. Although if I thought less the videos would be shorter
During my 30 bananas a day phase, never ate 30😀, people were really concerned! If I ate 30 chicken nuggets I was a hero but bananas! Lethal!🤣 I’m 3 months in on board. Video of my sessions makes me laugh! I’m a Ninja on a MTB, but on skate I’m an old gezzer with terrible board control😂 .
Basically my channel name etymology - while everyone looks like a ballerina I look like I’m a lumbering oaf. But not everyone can be super steezy. Keep it up and you get results. Thanks for watching and go easy on those nuggets. 🙏🏻🍗🍗
Dude - I love this! Strangely I've also been working a lot on making transitions between skating and walking a lot smoother recently, and this was really helpful and encouraging to watch. Also, I'm super inspired by your progress, attitude & determination - makes me want to start making vids too... Keep up the great work my G 👊
It’s well worth working on. I sometimes practice just throwing the board down too (because I tend to crouch over). What else are you trying? Thanks for watching btw 🙏🏻🙏🏻
@@UngracefulmovementI've been working hard on manuals recently - it's slow progress, but the nice thing about it is I can work on the muscle whilst working from home on the carpet😅That said - I don't think stationary manual progress translates fully to moving ones... Also, the backwards/reverse/nose pick-up still alludes me... Any tips for that one? Oh, and BTW, great to see Bishops Park featured (albeit briefly) in the vid - I take my daughter there most days on the way to school... ☺
Hi, I'm 36, been skating for a year now, found your channel recently, and I'm quite enjoying it! I have a Grabke exploding clock (white) oldschool deck, which I'm absolutely in love with, with green Bones atf 80A wheels. Today tried exactly the same nose grab-nocomply like you, which looked completely pathetic in my case, nowhere near to any trace of a fluid movement, but still, I keep on trying. Furthermore it turned out that I HAVE to perfect my kickturns, so did a lot of them, too. In general I like doing lots of pump carving and overall cruisin' around. Keep up the good work!
Glad you found the channel 🙌🏻 I hope it inspires you. I’ve taken a while to even get this far, and to be honest sometimes you find things that you enjoy doing and then they become smoother. Kickturns are an underrated thing, I’ve seen people kickflip then do an ugly kickturn and I can’t believe it
@@Ungracefulmovement As for the channel, I particuralrly liked the reunion vid with your brother - it was quite wholesome (In my case with my younger brother we playing vintage games online as a platform of connection). As for kickturns, yesterday I started to channel some serious power into them, to make them to a powerful turning motion. Maybe thats a right thing, at least felt better. Other thing is, as I noticed, my fitness needs quite some improvement - the jumping stuff quite cruel - tiring and 'slow', so caveman obviously a thing to perfect. Bananas be with you!
Keep going with the video whatever you feel like...you are inspiring people like me 40 years old with 5 months experience in the skate park. Keep going
Yes mate thank you for watching. I can’t believe people are taking inspiration between my rambling and basic skating (sorry I’m naturally self deprecating).
Watch to end and your gonna take a compliment and like it this week. Sesh was a banger and the 90 degree Ollie to curb stall and all getting the step off pop was all wicked 👊🏻
I'm with you on the longer sessions being better. It takes me an age to warm up as well. most of my tricks I have to spend a good while before I can start to land them but then once I have landed one I can land them most of the time after that. The next session though I'm back to the start again.
Right I’m doing what you did to me and pausing vid to comment… there’s nothing wrong with a step off and then a hard pop down with back foot, that’s exactly what I do for the NC Impossibles as there’s no way I can simultaneously scrap my front foot off whilst popping. Just a case of stepping off and popping quicker to give appearance of not 2 manoeuvres. Looking good so far and I’m only at 5 mins… now back to your vid
Nose slides are looking good mate. I like the format as it happens with the videos. Try a front 180 to get off the curb - surprisingly easy to get it round to 270 too. I love the caveman trick, do it all the time. Captain Caveman ;)
Fs 180 off a curb feels like a stretch right now… but I’ll take it under advisement. Noseslides feel pretty good. You like the chaotic, “I don’t know why I’ve come out let alone skate” style video? At least that’s what it felt like at the time 🤦🏻♂️
You will get to a point when "warm ups" take just 5-10mins. It's bliss! I absolutely hate the first 5-10 mins warming up! Everything feels horrible at first!
@@Ungracefulmovement Not counting that, I am a savage and don't do that lol. I do a tiny little leg stretch when putting shoes on. No more than 10-15 seconds lol. I am a bit younger than you though. Almost 38. So not sure if that helps me? lol. I only started doing that a few months ago too just because it feels nice lol
@@keblin86 I’m just out of shape. Should be doing it but rarely can be arsed. Funnily enough my peak fitness was around 38 to 40 just before lockdown. God I miss that.
@@Ungracefulmovement it's better that you do it, I am just silly lol. I skated from age 14/15 until about 23/24. Then I didn't skate for 10 years and started again. However in that time I have a physical job so I think that has helped me. My motto is just do what feels right so if you feel you need to stretch do it. In fact everyone I know says to stretch! So definitely keep it up!
I am currently recovering from some stomach bug and am eating only rice and bannanas for 14 days. And I can tell you from personal experience that you can probably eat at least 6 of those yellow bastards a day 😅. Karl Pilkington might disagree. 😊
@@Ungracefulmovement that's totally fine though, just learn to cruise faster and pump around these long summer days and you'll feel the benefit! Especially as your brain starts to figure out things like "If I hit that up at this angle maybe I can get enough speed to get round there and kickturn high on that quarter without putting my foot down". My legs are demolished from a session on Sunday
Hey bro started skating just before lockdown when i lived in East London, so i like seeing and recognising all your spots, also in my 40s, I see the same mistakes that hindered my progress with Ollies in your vids, it's the back foot , trust me, the ankle needs to flick down so that the tail pops off the ground ,you'll feel this glide motion as the deck meets back up to your feet, at first it's not natural to do but fight the urge to just jump, that ankle flick down with you as you lean forward pushing your front foot forward, is the trick , same on banks ,hope this helps
@@marylandstationmusic9422 well, I'm terrified of going to Mile End when it's busy - only managed 9am sessions there. Otherwise i mean to go to Walthamstow soon.
Great video bud I skate with Scott from dad leisure now and then gonna take some of the things your doing into practice looks like it would help me improve also gonna try talk to the camera more like the fit check may do similar ❤
Haha. worry about just having fun skating. I used to post on instagram and write a bunch of stuff to contextualise the clip... so now i'm just saying that to camera. Really glad you're getting something from the youtube vids.
Really great work on those cavemans, some solid makes there. slides and curb stalls awesome too. Ive watched 2 videos today and been shouted out in both 😂 what a day 😂 if you want the cheat code for the caveman, back foot on bolts, jump both feet off and land both feet at the same time (left foot on floor, back foot very back of the tail.) Lean back slightly and let the board come to you! Hope that helps, although to be fair I think Mr Videtta and Mr Comeback do it the way you are trying to do it 🤔
@@Ungracefulmovement 😂 sorry! Yeah maybe I could do a tutorial on some basic things that other tutorials don't tell you... that I have had to figure out for myself. I forsee a lot of militant angry comments telling me I'm wrong though 😆
I really like your videos. Im only at the stage of cruising and getting my balance to where i feel capable of progressing to tricks and drop ins. Everything your doing is what i have in my mind of what tricks i would like to do and i enjoy seeing your progress. Keep it up mate
Thank you! I've never tried that ollie before so it was such a buzz to be getting them. The noseslide is definitely feeling stronger too. Thanks for watching.
The flick up is the only trick I brought with me from my teens. Started skating again at 35, about 6 months ago, and I had to relearn everything else but that. I usually put my front foot on the edge of the board so there’s less travel and friction to get it to pop. Zero delay and it works every time. Still have no idea how to do a no comply, but I assume it’s a similar motion? Maybe? lol.
@@Ungracefulmovement exactly! You should be able to get enough pop that it can hit you in the face. Build up the tension, and release it as fast as possible.
I think you just need to pop harder, it's basically just an ollie but your front foot gets out of the way to allow the board to rocket upwards. Heres a couple things i noticed: Try moving your front foot back even more (halfway between wheels should be fine). Squat lower, try and get deep enough so that your front catching hand dangles a few inches above the nose, this way when you pop it you are ready to catch
Hi man I am 44 years old too and i 've been at this spot [W6] few times trying doing same trick like you .Well Done ,never give .forever Young .Regards !
You are very simply over thinking Ollie's bro. Sit at a bench and just play with your board using just your legs....pop it like an Ollie but don't worry to land it....just popping....try shuv it's, kick flips, everything but mostly Ollie's. Once you can pop your board good just do the same thing while rolling but jump. You will be olling up curbs in a week. Over thinking is something I'm very good at....remember this is fun and it doesn't hurt that much to bail when you roll as slow as us LOL so have fun and stop thinking.
I’ve had some of my best sessions when I’m not thinking. I know it too well. Then in the next one, in my head, I’m going “try not thinking about it too much, try relaxing, think about not trying or thinking”
If you can, go faster on the Ollie out of the ramp, you will get that feeling you are seeking of the satisfying air/pop :D For the Noseslides come at it more straight then turn into it, preferably pop the ollie into it (feels way better, though scarier when learning!)
Faster for everything is really what I need to work on. At least for the Noseslide, I’m (slowly) working towards that parallel approach. Thanks for the support 🙏🏻
@@Ungracefulmovement yeh it can be scary doing some tricks fast! np. I am mentally having a battle right now. I haven't skated in a while and everytime this happens I can't even get myself to go out lol. I get odd feelings and find it so hard to get back out there if its been a while. I know I just need to force myself when this happens but that forcing is the hardest part! I always love it when I do get out so I have to remember that! It's a weird feeling skateboarding when older though most people seem to be ok with it!
@@keblin86 sorry you’re having that struggle. Hopefully you get through that mental block and get out. Like you said it’s always better doing it than not.
@@Ungracefulmovement yeh! I got to do it as I want to see what I am capable of now I am older. I feel like my brain understands more how things work now lol
Well done mate, same issues here with rolling ollies, need to jump higher and lift back leg.... i can do them nice still but rolling... a week ago kissed pavement trying to jump onto it, after few successfull events, surprised you have had a SB for yourself, ususally its packed as hell... Kepp it up, good work tho.
I like it! The extra width in the middle makes me more confident landing tricks. I’ve got Indy titanium 159s and 56mm 93a Nano Cubics. I do get wheel bite if I land poorly so I might go to 54mm but I also like being able to go over crusty ground easily; it’s a dilemma.
Also, something you said early on. Bending your knees. 9/10 times when I'm feeling less than what I'm trying its partly because I wasnt bending my knees enough. I try to focus on never fully extending them even mid ollie and that has been helping A LOT. I still mess it up constantly, but its something I've had trouble in sports in general my whole life. Bend your knees bend your knees lol this video really does make me wanna get out there this morning. Cheers
I'm 35 and back at it a few months now. Just now feeling like my back leg is getting a little better at lifting. Every time I see someone older skating it gives me more inspiration and confidence that I can get there. Good stuff 🤙
Dude, you're hilarious, this is real world skateboarding 👍🏻 im pretty much at the same stage as you, just trying to have fun and having a go at myself for not doing it right or not comitting 😂
