The battle at LZ XRAY was a pretty horrific battle, but I never understood why XRAY gets all the attention when the day after more soldiers were killed at LZ ALBANY.
The last couple sentences were perhaps the most important ones of the whole interview. I'm sure some normal, average or high functioning guys got rattled and completely broken by their experiences in Vietnam (not to deny or minimize the trauma that every grunt under fire get indelibly stamped with) but he's right, the guys who were bums before they went over were still bums when they came back. Ran into a weak sister couple weeks ago who tried claiming he sacrificed 10 years of his life for America and our freedom in Iraq or Afghanistan or someplace. I had to shut him down, forcefully. One, he's a little guy and not well built. Ther's no way he ever did anything but hand out socks in supply, if he was ever actually in. Two, if he was actually in the military, having someone make all his decisions and take care of him was a relief for him, not a sacrifice or burden. I don't carry signs or openly oppose the military or any of it's workers, I know history all to well to chop at the branch upon which I'm so comfortably seated, but I don't give them any kudos or hero status, either. Soldier isn't even in the top 10 most dangerous jobs and the people who join up are lacking some critical component of self direction so it's probably better that they are institutionalized in the military. Otherwise, we'd have way more bums on the streets than we currently do.
YOU ARE SO RIGHT, SIR!!! ❤ RACISM HAS ABSOLUTELY NO PLACE IN A COMBAT ZONE. 😮😮 YOU WERE BROTHERS OVER THERE IN THAT STRANGE WAR NO MATTER THE COLOR OF YOUR SKIN. HOW FOOLISH TO THINK OTHERWISE DURING OR AFTER. SALUTE.❤❤
A smart guy, a great observer of people and life. Boy do I agree with him ! I connected with this interview more than any other of the dozens I've watched ! Thank you so much. USAF 66-70
If I needed a medic I would sure want Doc Pickard to take care of me. The epidemy of the best corpsman. Thanks Doc for what you did for those Marines ! USAF 66-70
I was in the USAF 66-70. I talked with a pilot who flew an AC-47 in Vietnam. He said he had flown that exact C-47 in the Berlin Airlift after WW II. 👍👍👍👍👍
Vietnam ,Iraq and Afghanistan were all losing conflicts. A tragic waste of human life and waste of trillions of dollars. The Iraq people have infrastructure that was destroyed and never recovered. Afghanistan is right back where it was 35 years ago. The leaders are safe at home and the Servicemen pay the price. Tell me what good was accomplished. USAF 66-70 Retired police officer
You close your eyes and you'd swear you're listening to Sam Kinison . Even his laugh. Very interesting to hear a US Navy perspective. USAF 66-70 Tactical Air Command Weapons and munitions specialist I went through the L.A. induction center the same time he did.
I’ve watched hundreds and hundreds of these videos about Vietnam and World War II. Every time I hear the person say “I have never told anyone this” I get a feeling of dread. These soldiers saw the worst of mankind day after day for months and years. You can agree or disagree with their actions during wartime, but you cannot deny that they were asked to serve their country and they did it 100%… that alone makes them heroes.
At the end of the day all that money we spent on theses pilots was a waste they dropped more bombs than WW2 the Navy and air Force thought they was tuff but still lost the war bottom line they should have all been charged for crimes against humanity and environmental damage they did
If he had seen combat in Vietnam he would possibly look at the outcome differently . To me, every conflict since WW II has been an unnecessary loser.. Iraq and Afghanistan ended up the same as Vietnam , a complete waste of men and women. A complete waste of money that could have done so much good elsewhere. "Leaders" of countries and outfits like the CIA get us involved but it's the soldiers, marines, airmen and sailors who are in harms way and pay the "price" !!!!! USAF 66-70 Weapons and munitions specialist Retired Police Officer
The Anglo American Establishment & the Globalist Banking Cartel most certainly were not trying to do the right thing. I know these guys didn't have access to the Intel we have now but my Lord they were naive of how our Govt & our economy work.
Great interview. I laughed out loud a few times to some of his responses. Interesting war experience. I’ve watched almost all the these. These guys and their stories are an American treasure that will live forever here.
"Watch what you wish for; You might just get it !!!!" That's what ruined southern California and now southern Utah !!!! Once "It" is gone, you can NEVER get it back . Too many people and too much development !
