Judy's face when Captain Lewis says they're sad to see her go. Lewis may have been hard on her, but she wasn't about to trash talk her right to her parents.
I think you completely missed the point of the scene. Theresa Russell is actually perfection here. Her character is a vapid, self-serving, emotionless woman who could care less about her child, and is obviously unburdened by her husband's suicide, instead enjoying the money he left behind. Actually, this is GREAT ACTING 101. And Russell was, as usual, memorable here. Her character provided an important pulse that kept the entire body of work going. Her seediness and shallow, self-important demeanor explains her daughter's actions as well as (if you've grown up in a similar community) her own, as there are many people like this.
