Just a note that's a mighty clean workshop you have there. You can tune on my yet to arrive QT40 anytime. I'll move the jumper and burn it in some and then contact you. Haven't used a comm radio since 1980, I think it will be fun again. Subscribed, thanks.
I have an HR2510 that I did the 11 meter mod myself with the trace cut and jumper method, it's stock other than that and the LED display replacement. When I hook it to the meter, I deadkey at 4 watts but has little or no swing from audio. I really need someone to go through it and find the possible issue. I live in NYC and have brought it to a few people but they had no testing equipment so I wasn't about to leave my precious radio with them. Could you maybe contact me with a rough idea of what it would cost to take a look at it for me? Thanks! :)
Might be a dumb question, but here goes. I just bought a used 655hpc, already converted. Love it. Band A starts at 25- something and Band J goes up to 30- something. CB range sits nicely on Band D. My question is.. what was this configuration out of the box? Published ad material says a 655 is a 10 meter, 28-29 mhz. This all looks so perfect now, a-e, f-j, etc. What did this look like before conversion? Thanks, 7-3.
Not that anyone misses hearing the "back to the bench" boy lol... Does anybody have an update as to what's happened to the Narcissist in the Dessert? I haven't heard as much as a peep out of him in months here in the deep southeast.
I have a problem with my 955 and hopefully you might can help me. I did the 11 meter conversion sometime ago and it has been working fine. I soldered the jumper on and held down the function and color buttons and switched it on, rotated the channel selector to HF, turned off and back on and all was good. However, some how when I was trying to modify a roger beep using the software and programming cord I have inadvertently switched the radio back into Ham mode. Everything thing looked good before I wrote the new program to radio but when I turned it off and back on it was back in Ham mode. Then I attempted to put it back into HF mode the same way I did the first time but I'm not getting the Ham / HF option anymore. The odd thing about it is that I can still get the 11 meter band but only when the VFO switch is selected. It's not really a big deal but I can no longer select channels by number but now by frequency only. It takes alot of turns to go from say 26.965 to 27.205. Luckily I can still shift the frequency jump from 1K to 1M with the function button. Sorry for the long post, I'm just trying to give you all the information on what went on. If you have any idea on how to get the radio back into HF mode I would appreciate if you can help. Thanks
@@gordonlovett71 have you tried to reset the radio back to factory settings yet? If not, this may work. Stryker is having serious issues with their software and unfortunately this has been a reoccurring problem for them that they haven’t fixed yet.
No I haven't tried to reset it I think. I've tried all kinds of combinations of buttons and powering up. I just can't get the Ham - HF to show again. How do you go about resetting it? Thanks for responding
Good call my friend. Did the reset with the software programming and it cleared it right up. Everything back to normal but I modified #1 roger beep and lowered the SWR protection from 10 to 3. Thanks for your help and I subscribed to your channel. U Da Man

Several years ago I purchased one of these. Stock, it drifted too badly to be of any use to me. My basement is not really heated and temp can range from 16C to 22C, and exacerbated thermal drift. Eventually, I replaced the crystals and the crystal tuning network with a thematically controlled frequency generator, which I control with a microprocessor. Now I stay right on frequency. I do not use the internal switching power supply as it generates way too much heat, as Galaxy has provided no way to get rid of the heat. One day, if I can figure out a way to neatly punch holes in the outer casing, I'll add an extract fan. I do not like modifying the clarifier to address the drift issue as then, "everyone " is off frequency, I prefer to fix the cause. Thanks for the video.
Nature of the beast when dealing with Galaxy and RCI. They are drifters right from the factory, this is why I gave up on those brands. It’s either a Stryker, Yaesu or Icom for me sir. 73👍🏻
I watched your video but I'm confused did you have to do a special tune that you didn't show to get that what to do 50 Watts on a.m. or does the radio come doing that kind of power once you do the frequency conversion? I've been wanting to buy one of these radios so I'm interested to learn.. hope to get a reply thanks
There is an NPC switch on the radio that limits or opens the peak wattage. They are really clean at about 40 watts peak, but with a few adjustments 50 watts can be achieved and the waveform is still clean on the oscilloscope. They are decent radios for the price but I personally have no desire in owning one. 73
This is great content. I just bought a Lincoln ll+ second hand in mint / refurbished condition from Walcott. They say they did a peak and tune package and updated the software. I hope that wasn't all snak oil. I really like this channel man !
@GroundControl204 Man, that's fantastic, brother . I've got a Texas Star 250 1992. I'm not sure if it's a good fit for the Lincoln ll + , but I won't mind sending the amp to you just to make sure it's working right.. Your contact is really appreciated on this end. I'm going to figure out the cloud and see what you think . A big 76 to ya.
Well well. Looks like I just found a new source to help me decide on a new radio for my second vehicle. I really like the way you shoot straight. I’m a retired airline pilot, 77, and just returning to CB after many years. No doubt about it, I am learning that I have a lot to learn. Right now, I’m running a President McKinley with a heater on vehicle # 1. It took me awhile, but finally I have a very tight, and clean signal. I run a Wilson mag mount. SWR is kinda high at 1.7. Looking at a new Stryker, or the new President for vehicle #2. Does Stryker have an auto squelch? Thanks in advance man.
Man , i wish I had seen this sooner . Watching you has taken some of the mystery out of understanding the principles of the sine wave. Reading about is one thing , bit what you just demonstrated is worth a thousand words .you've just inspired me to get back into the hobby . I apriciate your excellent content brother.
@@GroundControl204 oh nice okay well I can probably just get the final swap it myself then have you work your magic so it pairs well with my amp if that works for you.
My bother from another mother. I am glad you showed this as I have one similar to this and I just ordered a cheaper studio michrophone for a trial from Amazon. I have been using my d 104 with it and every one says I am load but wanted to be better sounding. It will be deli cred today and I will be on air with it hopefully this evening. I love the info from. You . Keep up the great work my brother. Airwolf in the carolinas, 73 's my brother. We need to get together so.e day.
Nice work. Wish I could get my junker 148 to look that nice. I have a question maybe you could answer. When I transmit on AM, my voice comes through the speaker. (like it would with talkback) SSB is not affected. Someone who wasn't 100% sure said it's one resistor added. But I don't know if they meant a resistor was added that caused the issue, or one should be added to make it go away. If I knew I could likely do it myself but I have no idea where to start. Person I got it from said it was "working fine and in great shape when he stopped using it last year" which is likely bullshit considering the condition it's in! It probably has been tampered with at some point, there is a non factory drill hole in the back but no switch or wires there. thanks!
I have a few fatboy amps that could use a little upgrading.. those tiny wires get hot as hell in there and I’m getting some feedback after keying down on one of the 4 pills any of this something you’d be interested in working on?
@@ChristiannTyler recheck your spelling sir, that’s my only email and also I’ve gotten plenty of other emails already today so for sure this is my email address. Groundcontrol204@icloud.com
Yes but it has a built in 2290 driver as well so they say keep the input low. Thought about buying a Stryker 955V2 but wasn’t sure if the newer ones can be adjusted down to be compatible?
@bobbywhitt8830 Oh ok, so you have the low drive version, which max peak should not exceed 25 watts from the radio. Yes, the Stryker can be turned down to meet those specifications.
Just got my KL703 today. You say to open it up and clean up any extra flux or solder. There's one of those stickers on the back of my amp that says the warranty is void if it is broken or missing. So how do I open the bottom without violating the warranty? So should I check it out first by putting it through its paces to make sure everything is working properly before opening it up? Just wondering,,, Nice video though.....
I think I've only seen a couple of your videos so far so I haven't seen any repair videos yet. Is this something you do I bought a 2950 last year and found out after i got home that the previous owner had pulled a diode to give it wide open talk back. I would like to have the radio repaired and if possible get it tuned to work to drive my 667 cleanly.
I have 2 HR 2510s original owner since 1989. I need tobget caps changed Posslly new Finals. 1 powers on but want key. The other want power on. Theey have been in storage onw since 95 the other since 2003. I didn't have a vehicle I could mount them in. (Full Console) I now have a gen5 4 runner I can do a nice dash mount. I love how you did this and the respect you had for it. DM the approx cost (worst case) to repair an re-tune both. I also want LED light conversion (RBG) if possible orange if not. I run 11M SSB.
@@GroundControl204 O.K. understood ! Thanks ! Any thoughts on my second question, about the distorted receive on these President Lincoln 2 Plus radios ?
When they are peaked and tweaked to the max is when these rigs tend to heat up too much, don’t use any technician that does not use an oscilloscope to tune radios. 73
