Joe is dead on. I run Asio on all my whitetail hunts and don't go out without a hood. In SC we get temp in the 90's during the first 6 weeks of the season. The lightweight hoodie keeps the sun off and the mosquitos away. It's a life saver
I’m blessed enough to have both Bobby Worthington’s books. I was able to acquire a copy of Phantoms of the Forest in November of 2022 and since have yet seen another copy on the internet available. If guys have a copy, they aren’t letting them go nor shouldn’t. Himself, and his sons did a tremendous job putting the book together with pictures to go along. I personally called him after I finished his books last September and thanked him for his knowledge. Class act of a gentleman.
That’s great! I sure hope there is enough printed for everyone. I believe he said it would probably be in paperback. I know I’ll be watching your website for it.
4:30 You don't understand the penetration differences between bone and cardboard? I'm not surprised. I'm barely 5 minutes into this video and the misinformation is already pretty overwhelming. 650gr is the lowest mass that has 100% occurrence of passthrough at the "Heavy Bone Threshold" for Dr. Ashby's Natal Study. Also, speed is not important. The difference in flight time at 60 yards (which is a distance NOBODY should be shooting live game at... at this point, you're an archer, and should work on your skills as a hunter.) Is 2 tenths of a second between a 400 and 650 grain arrow. Those 2 tenths of a second are not going to make you successful, vs unsuccessful at shooting an animal at an unethical distance. There is not a bow or arrow setup that is going to be quicker than that deer. That's why most experienced bow hunters will use their skills as an actual hunter to get within 30 yards. Additionally, momentum THROUGH the target is Everly impacted at 60 yards. A 650gr arrow has more momentum at 60 yards than a 400gr arrow at launch. Remember, we aren't trying to get the arrow TO the animal. We are trying to get the arrow THROUGH the animal. My final point is this. Shooting cardboard, foam, gel, cinder blocks, car hoods, buildings, and all the other stupid stuff I see people shooting online IS NOT A GOOD ANALOG for "testing" penetration. The target defines the test. This is why the Natal Study is so valid. An animal was shot, then propped up and shot as many times as possible within 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, rigor mortis set in, and effects penetration, thus negating results. You want to learn, test accordingly. I'm so tired of people spouting their conclusions from an inaccurate test parameter, and proclaiming it as fact. I know you put a lot of energy into this test. I'm sure it made sense to you while setting it up. But kill a pig in Texas (where there is no waste laws on that sordid animal) and shoot it with your different setups before rigor mortis sets in, and I promise you will see some valid results that will change your mind. Ask your doing in this video is unknowingly leading people astray.
I wish we could use mineral to help supplement deer health in Illinois. Even if they only allowed mineral in the off season. I know they say it's to limit spread or disease, but that makes no sense because deer all share the same licking branches. Illinois DNR is terrible. Great episode Joe. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and knowledge guys.
I see both sides, but my theory is how do you separate them from all natural sources at the same time? They gather anyway. Right now on 55 acres I’ve got two. I’m on high ground in the bend of a River- hella trail through my yard😈
Here in Western Kentucky- The first big bucks I see are coming to mineral the 23-25 of October.. it gets busy from that week thru the first week of November. My season will be over before gun season.
My question is why your results are different from mine … when I shoot heavier arrows into my targets designed to stop an arrow they punch through and the lighter arrows stop short…???
Just goes to show how close all flagships are now. You HAVE to go with the intangibles such as draw, stability and balance (all of which goes to the Prime). That minute amount of difference in speed and sound would never be the difference in the field between a dead animal and not, so you have to go with whatever feels best to you.
Watching to see the documentation on the broadheads. Definitely need real world experience vs the tests everyone does it the ballistic gel that’s made to stop bullets at full speed. I need to buy, and try some of the triple point broadheads. For the practicing on yardage, my son and I toss one of those dice targets, then walk away from it, stop and turn and then shoot. No ranging on first shot, then ranging and see what it is.
Would be good to see a bow training/workout/what to eat. Etc for white tail hunters. Not the normal mountain program you see all the time. I’m 51 and would like to keep hunting till I’m older.
Hey Joe, what counties do you hunt in Ohio? I live in SW Ohio and I believe that Highland county is as good as any county in the country! Get you a spot around Hillsboro and you'll have a giant to chase!
Joe and Don are such great guy's thanks for all the info.wish I could jump in there back pocket for one season living in Maine hunting for big bucks gets really frustrating sometimes put so many miles on some season's thanks again guys for all you do for us hunter.
What one you picking? The lift or the prime in ASIO… Please do a build video on the new one you choose. And tell us what your picking for accessories and why. Arrows and broadhead too.
So the lift comes with string silencer I wonder what it would be if you added them to the others. Just an observation I physically can't shoot one I went with elite era identical specs to the lift.
Good interview.. Don, for smaller foodplots in the late season, pumpkins can be a dynamite draw. I've been doing it for about 15 years and it's by far the best draw I've found.
Hey Joe the Lift is a nice bow..I’ve gone with a Hickory self bow with a sizzling 170’s fps😜 It’s like me slow but deadly💪🏻🇺🇸. What do you expect for a 64 year young buck ninja. Come see us in Cadiz, Ky.
Have you not noticed in each of these penetration vids that the target media grips the arrow shaft after the broadhead has passed thru. Think about how much an animals body grips that same shaft.........just about zero. Razor sharp, & i mean shaving sharp, not just packet sharp works much better on flesh as well. Still surprised at your result though.
No I would totally disagree with the “grip” statement …an animals body is made to prevent penetration to its vitals and although the “grip” is different there is certainly “grip” when an arrow is going through an animal……if an animal has “zero grip” what would be the point of a razor sharp broadheads…we could just simply blow right through them with anything….skin has “grip” muscle has “grip” bone has “grip” organs have “grip” I agree with you on one point we should have razor sharp broadheads for the greatest amount of penetration.
@@JoeMilesMWT I think you completely missed my point on "grip" I was not refering to the resistance exerted against the head. I was refering to the "grip" on the shaft. Next you shoot an animal, take the broad head off, or take a target arrow & poke it through the hole made by the broadhead. There is almost zero "grip" on the shaft. Total opposite if you do that on plywood, cardboard or foam etc.
