Am a JRC kid. From 93 to 99 at IS 296. That’s were I started martial arts and made great friends. Professor Dawud Shabazz wherever you are, I appreciate you for life!!
I am proud to say that I was a member of this program at JHS 263 in Brooklyn during the early 90s as a Cheerleader (Go Tigers!) and a member of the Aikido group.
Thank you for posting this! Seeing my classmates and old teachers brought back beautiful memories of my childhood!! If anyone has the JRC pledge please share it! Thanks so much!
Oh man, I remember being in JRC at P.S. 92 in Brooklyn, NY. Amazing program, I wish my kids could be a part of this program now. I would love to see pics of when I was a part of the program and one of the t-shirts.
I remember going to this program at my school when I was younger and I am so grateful...it seems unheard of to find something like this today. This needs to come back!
these guys from Cuba play their instruments from when they get up to when they go to sleep, and they play like their ass is on fire, cause indeed it is, Cuba is a 1950s Socialist wasteland, and being a traveling musician is a way out.
there is SOOO much going on in this guys head behind what he is doing. its not just slapping drums, there's a ton of understanding of rhythms and then HOW to get it out accurately and with feeling on the instrument. wow.
So sorry that JRC is no longer around; however, its predecessor the Jackie Robinson Leadership Institute is currently being organized by NYC's JSMLI INC www.jsmli.org
Hello. I am not Predrito's publicist but I can tell you that he has blown up over the past year and is performing all over the world. He has a page on Face Book in case anyone wants to follow him. facebook.com/pedritomartinezmusic?ref=br_tf
Hope this helps, sorry my spanish isn't too good
I've been to Cuba twice to study (not bragging) and there are ton of Conguero's just like this Cat .... it's amazing! It's very humbling yet so inspiring. The rhythms of Cuba are the the tastiest. Thanks for posting.
The entire award-winning film can be purchased on DVD from my website listed above. The cost is $35 including shipping and handling. Thank you for supporting independent filmmaking. Al
