The Gate Theatre is an artist-led organisation producing original work of world-class excellence which inspires, challenges and entertains our audiences. We develop and support emerging and established artists with ambition, talent and skill to produce new work, alongside reinvigorating existing work from the Irish and international canon. The ethos and vision of the Gate demands that we fulfil our social and cultural purpose as an international home for Irish artists and an Irish home for international artists, creating a ‘world theatre’ that leads cultural conversation for artists and audiences in a progressive and inclusive dialogue. Equality and diversity are at the core of the Gate’s cultural values and we seek and deliver ‘best in class’ policies, shaping and leading new ways of thinking.
I just finished the audiobook. There were times when I felt the narrative was dry, but I think it was also my ability to focus LOL. By the end, I was deeply invested in the characters and found myself commenting aloud as things were happening. There was a scene that reminded me of something my wife and I experienced and I found myself sobbing in my kitchen. Emma Donoghue doesn't have to write a complicated story to get it to sink its teeth in unexpectedly. As I was listening, near the end, I thought this would be good to adapt (similarly to Sarah Waters' TV adaptations of her wonderful novels). I am not surprised to see it has been adapted, although I wish it were accessible to me across the pond. I don't think I'll be able to get myself over to Ireland to take in the theatre show. Break a leg, all!
Olwen is an amazing actor. We are in the U.S. and viewed her performance in the Tourist. The second season was worth watching just to see her. We were absolutely blown away. She is totally believable, and she is also beautiful.
Love You Olwen, your performance in The Tourist was mesmerizing! Not only are You a marvelous actor, You are a most beautiful woman of my same age, Thank you for your body of work!
Very insightful! I can tell this guy really did his homework. I love it when actors can add their own spin to the characters they depict on stage. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think I read on Wikipedia that during the autopsy the medical team found lesions on Zangara’s gallbladder which might’ve explained the pain. Again, I’m no historian so don’t quote me on that.
Ty but s note I am not the problem cultural beliefs of miseducation embedded abusive culture along with addiction codependent dysfunction have all contributed to six years of powerlessness cronic high stress leading to serious Meath problems again so preventable if only Simone had helped at ground level
So a production of this was shown in Bristol a few days ago, then cancelled after the 1st night due to feedback that it was 'triggering'. The gun suicide perhaps? But if so then 'upsetting' rather than 'triggering', as I doubt any of the equally bourgeois audience of kids have direct experience of suicide by gunshot...?
Fantastic performane by Owen Roe with a strong supporting cast. Great use of just the right amount of humour and humanity to offset what could have been a too-dark play. Magical prose and a beautifully designed set. The difference between a good play and a great play is that most of the time, I wasn't at the theatre, I was in one location or another back in time and this performance has stuck with me for weeks after in a melancholic and haunting way. Congratulations - terrific production and thank you.
Just booked a ticket for next Weds. 15th. June performance. Really looking forward to this inventive production. And lovely to hear Louis' interview on RTE Radio 1 earlier this morning.
Merry Christmas to all at The Gate , seeing the theatre empty with just the ghost light on has my heart in pieces 💔💔 heres to hoping in 2021 we can return to the theatre and be whisked away with amazing performance of phenomenal stories x
