Australia has some goofy laws to do with knives as well. Here, you would be in less trouble for having a machete on a belt sheath than you would be for having a small folding knife. Had a police officer go through my tool bag (for work in trades.) He skipped over 3 morakniv knife's and a cold steel dagger (not sure of model but it was a spear style point that's good for situations where you need to get hardened silicone/glue off a surface.) He's found my victorinox classic SD Lite (yes the smallest victorinox, special edition onyx black with a light) and he's said - "oooh mate I would get that out of your bag as soon as you can. New laws are being passed and this could land you in hot water." So yeah. Little silly as it was in my tool bag for work. The size of it means it's great for when you need a torch inside some odd little space. The fact that the blade on it is about the size of a tooth pick out of a larger victorinox made is comment comical to me. But whatever. Long story short, why not find a fixed blade with a less than 3 inch blade? Here in Aus blade length doesn't matter, lock mechanism doesn't matter, it's how it can be opened and it's "aesthetics" I.e - if it's black it's scary and illegal.

For safety in a UK legal knife, what you want is a good finger choil. It won't stop the blade folding, but it will stop the blade from folding enough to cut your finger. That's far more important in my opinion that the mechanism, a good choil negates the risk of self-injury. Spyderco do them particularly well I think. The Hoo knife you briefly showed doesn't have one, but the v3/v4 Hoo does have a finger choil and is much safer IMO (also entirely legal and anyone who calls a Hoo knife an 'automatic' is badly misinformed).

I tend to agree with you - I’m in 🇬🇧 & have a couple of both models but I gravitate towards the 3 much more than the two as less aggressive / smaller but still does the job (i’m lucky enough to have quite a bit of my own Land and work from home so I EDC both along with other locking knives but always switch to a slip joint if leaving the confines of my property) - great UK edc content dude (we probably won’t be able to EDC anything if this bunch of virtue signalling wankers that are now turning the UK into a Marxist state have anything to do with it! - fully considering taking myself & my money out of the UK to a friendlier non communist country - Starmer needs to resign

I have to agree that the UK laws make little sense when talking about folding knives My slip joint nearly took the top of my thumb this week. Yes obviously some user error, but a liner lock makes a folder so much safer to use. If some idiot is going to use a knife as a weapon it makes no difference if its a kitchen knife folding knife or a screwdriver. We who use a knife as a tool are penalised because of the few, just like so many other things.

@eastcoast4233
@eastcoast4233 Месяц назад
Please note: whilst a blade under a certain length is technically legal this is entirely dependant on the police and prosecution service believing you are carrying it for a justifiable purpose. It is illegal to carry ANY object which can realistically cause harm regardless of blade length if the police believe it’s with the intention of causing harm or damage, the onus is on you to convince them otherwise. I’m not a lawyer but am aware people have been prosecuted for having hammers, hair clips (!), and a wrench. Blade length is NOT a guarantor of legality in the UK, that’s not how our laws are written or interpreted.
@MPD90
@MPD90 16 дней назад
Please actually learn the law before instructing others on it... The exemption for non-locking, sub-3-inch knifes in the UK specifically says you DO NOT need ANY reason to carry it. No justification is required. Now of course if you use it for the wrong purpose or state your intent to use it for the wrong purpose, then you're going to be in trouble, but you don't need to justify carrying one of those knives at all. The 'good reason' element is for blades falling outside of the exemption (i.e. locking, fixed or >3 inches).
@eastcoast4233
@eastcoast4233 16 дней назад
@@MPD90 that is incorrect, a police officer can make reasonable enquiries on suspicion of carrying ANY item which may be used to cause harm, that principle overrides any specific examples.
@TedHowells

@eastcoast4233 I guess it depends on who you are rather than what you’re carrying then 😂
@eastcoast4233
@eastcoast4233 16 дней назад
@@TedHowells no, not at all, im simply saying that UK common law has the principle of reasonable enquiry and you can, and frequently have, been arrested for carrying items including small blades and metal hair combs. There is no overriding protection of the blade is small, it depends on if the police officer feels it’s intended use seems reasonable. This would likely only come up if they were already searching you, in a secure area where get scanned/checked, or you were brandishing it about.

I rotate an MKM Fara, MKM Isonzo, Twisted Junzi and several others. Then I have a small edc that goes everywhere consisting of keys, wallet, torch, phone battery, cables, wool beanie, gloves (in winter) and a rain jacket. For longer trips I add a bunch of stuff around water and being able to make coffee 😂 I usually also have a SAK or similar - I really like the MKM Campo which is SAK style, but all Magnacut.

Great little kit! I’d HIGHLY recommend upgrading your torch/flashlight to the Acebeam Pokelit and thank me later. For a slightly increased size (AA batts), its so much more versatile. It has a half-lumen setting (great for navigating unfamiliar hotel rooms going for a slash in the night), a mid setting and a high setting which is around 550 lumens! It also has a memory function where you can switch it back on to your favourite setting. I used to use i3Ts but this has been my constant EDC for about 2 years now. Anyway, thanks for another great video! Keep the cool content coming.
