I know I am super late to this, and you probably already have watched most reaction channels by now, but some that have not been mentioned because they were done recently is "StruggleNation" and "Carlie and Ange" I'm sure you have experienced this too by now, but it's amazing how you discover new connections and details in the show after having watched so many reactions to it. It becomes more and more amazing every time you watch it. I have never experienced that with any other show. Also, if you are interested in a podcast, Braving the Elements is the official podcast for ATLA and TLOK. They discuss every epidoes in detail, and its hosted by Zuko himself and Korra. You probably know that too but might as well say it. Loved your reaction to the show and will start watching Korra soon on the other channel.
So Brisbane and Fitzroy merged in 1996, Fitzroy was founded in 1883 under the VFA until it became VFL in 1897, however they never won any VFA Premeriships and Brisbane Bears founded in 1987. The AFL never merged both sides stats due to the 10 seasons they were in the comp together, so it was like they wiped Fitzroy all together. But Fitzroy did have 8 VFL Premierships, Bears never won one. However as Brisbane Lions we now have 4 AFL Premiership from 6 appearances. Fitzroy's last VFL Flag was in 1944. For Sydney they never had a side until South Melbourne Swans relocated, I think in 1982. But South Melbourne was founded in 1874 also under VFA and won 5 Premierships, then 5 more in the VFL era, there last was in 1933. Only two AFL Premierships since South Melbourne relocated to Sydney as Sydney did not have a side Pre 1982. It was a lot easier to just keep all of South Melbourne's history in the record books and build on it. Sucks for the old Fitzroy Fans, I feel for them, it's like it has just been wiped! But that is why their page is a lot longer, you can search Fitzroy history individually though. Would love if now that people are much better stats and tech wise if they could add it back in though, I'm not from the Fitzroy side of things, I'm Bears, But it'd be great if the AFL could right this wrong. Hope you are enjoying the sport though :)
I went to the 62-6 warriors game, there was a sale on their jerseys and I made a bet with my dad that if they made 60 he got me a jersey, I had hope because we were playing well but he agreed because he didn’t think they’d do it, they got to 60 and we went to the shop dad hung his head low and we had a good laugh, as we were buying the jersey we scored again, but it wasn’t awarded, but was still a really bloody funny day, and dad and I still laugh about it to this day. I’ve been following them since I was 6-7 because my family weren’t into footy until I started playing at school, 24 years later and I’m watching my up and down struggling team make it to their 5th straight grand final and 80 mins away from a possible 4th premiership can’t be prouder of this team ❤️💛💚🖤 go the mighty panthers!!!
Brisbane lions vs Geelong the week before awesome game (close score) the game before that from 44 points down against Gws beating them 105 to 100 .from 5th position to eventual winners. Classic. Go Lions .
The "Grand final MVP" is called the "Norm Smith Medal", I thought it should have gone to Lohmann as well. Unfortunately he gave away a "Fifty Metre Penalty" (Professional foul) later in the game which sort of ruined his chances, but even after that he was 4th in line for the individual award. He certainly turned it on early. The scoring is in 3 columns, first is "goals" (times 6 points) the second column is "Behinds" (yes the smaller outside posts, times 1 point) an the third is "Total Points", really you only have to pay attention to the last number, the total points.
Hi! Please don't pronouce the final T in Dupont. French is messed up 😂 (In fact there also is the name Dupond, with a D. Check the Tintin's comics, Dupond and Dupont are two hilarious secrets service goofs) Great video, keep bringing! 👍
Hey mate, stumbled across your video! I'm a mad Canucks fan from Brisbane who has been following the Lions since arriving in the country in 2004. So good to finally see a flag especially after the last 10 years. Especially given my Canucks have had the 2011 loss and not much since (until this past stanley cup second round run!)
That's awesome! I feel like there's decent crossover between Vancouver/Australia so that's always cool. I'm actually in Van despite being a Leaf fan ha.
He's the goat of rugby but check out the vunnipolo brothers. I think they're tongan heritage but played for England. I think lomu could hit with over 2 tonnes. I aspired to hit like him but not as nimble on my feet. I think he did a 10.2 100m. I'm a bit quicker and bigger but don't have his acceleration.
Thanks for that , nice little roundup, i was a bit shocked u didnt know some of the basic rules , terms and scoring. Keep going and learning. A F L and Aussie rules the greatest game and comp in the world with huge crowds and viewing on screen.
No francihes in AFL no one owns the teams they are "owned" by the clubs members or by the AFL itself which is itself owned by the clubs to run the league. No money is made in the system it is simply ploughed back into teams and the game. All this is alien to other countries sports.
You missed that Brisbane was originally the Bears, founded nearly 40 years ago in 1987, but they merged with the Fitzroy Lions in 1997 to become the Brisbane Lions. Fitzroy was an old club, established in 1883. You also missed that Sydney was originally the South Melbourne Football Club, which relocated to Sydney over 40 years ago in 1982 ... thus beginning the process that eventually led to the development of the national AFL. The club was founded in 1874.
@@justicedemocrat9357Fitzroy was merged with Brisbane in terms of personnel, but it was effectively a takeover. The Fitzroy Football Club still exists in the amateur league.
5:34 this is the Hipwood reference. His reaction (hand on head, hand over mouth) to kicking a goal from a tight angle is copying the celebration of another Brisbane player, Jason Akermanis, after he kicked a goal from a tight angle on one particular occassion back in 2005.
GLORY TO THE MIGHTY LIONS 🦁🏆🏆🏆🏆 LETS GO❕❕❕❕ Definitely not the best Grand Final for you watch for the first time I’m afraid Not for me . My team killed it 🤘 If you want a ton of clicks tho you should react to -Don’t believe in Never AFL (Mason Cox, The Wounded Tiger) -Grand Final Highlights (2012,2018,2023) And -After the Siren Goals AFL Those should pump you up as a sports fan👍 Anyway man I enjoy your content You’ve got a new subscriber 🫵👍 Keep kicking ass❕
Hey that first comment was me😅 I was referring to when Jason Akermanis kicked a goal in 2005 from an identical angle to Hipwood's goal at 5:31 , and did an iconic hand-over-mouth celebration (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pxC9mVIZN4Q.htmlsi=OhM2_v9dZAYIMpNb) So Hipwood knew exactly which celebration would suit the goal he'd just kicked😁
I do love that you said Brisbane is a pretty major city. As a Brisbanite it makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. :) Fun fact, they used to actually be the Brisbane Bears, which was founded in 1986. There was a club in Victoria called Fitzroy Lions that went waaaaay back earlier than that. Sadly both our clubs had a bunch of varying administration and financial issues (I'm yada-yadaing over a fair bit but anyway) and over time the AFL decided to merge our clubs together at the end of 1996. So I'm from the Bears side of that merge, been following them since 1989. edit: Oh nicely done, I wrote all that before I saw you do the research at the end. Great to see you are so invested in what you just watched that you're compelled to learn more!
as a Doggies fan I wish this went back a little further because a few of our appearances in this vid are on the losing end. Outside of 2004, I'd have to say that Sharks win over Melbourne is right up there for me.. the tension was high for the entire 80 minutes with the Sharkies trying to win their first premiership. I was in Parramatta/Penrith territory on that day and the whole pub that I was at erupted when the final whistle finally blew (we don't like Melbourne here in Sydney).
Check out the 2023 and 2018 grand finals, they were both super close games. Jeremy Howe’s best marks from 2011-2019, buddy Franklin and Eddie betts highlights are worth checking out too
The AFL evolved out of the Melbourne Aussie Rules competition so about half the teams are from Melbourne. Swans and Lions are both old Melbourne teams that were relocated into the Rugby League cities. In the same way the NRL evolved out of the old Sydney Rugby League competition, so about half the clubs in that are from Sydney and its suburbs. It would be interesting to find a video on the histories and geography of both comps to really understand them. Because of this history, the AFL grand final is always played in Melbourne and the NRL grand final always in Sydney. Brisbane and Perth like to cry about it, but you have to have history.
The thing is this result was not expected what so ever.. The Swans finished 1st and the Lions finished 5th essentially the Swans got a double chance meaning if they lost against another team in Round 1 of the finals they'd get another chance and another home final the following week but if they WON round 1 in the finals they get a week off and are one win away from the Grand Final (which is what happened). Meanwhile Brisbane finishing 5th meant they had to win every week of the finals series to make it to the Grand Final in doing so they beat Carlton by 28pt after being about 60pt infront. Then they beat a top 4 side in GWS by 5pt after being 44pt down in the 3rd quarter of the game. Then they beat a top 4 side in Geelong by 10pt after being 25pt down! Also half way through the season they were 13th out of 18 teams! The run, comebacks and final product are pretty unheard of!
Geelong = JA-long (The Cats, a team about an hour West of Melbourne) Aker/AKA = Jason Akermanis. The Celebration is in relation to 2 goals he kicked backed to back from an impossible angles. Brisbane essentially had success between 01-04 making 4 grand finals and winning 3 of them. After that they only made the finals once between 2004 and i believe 2018. Essentially were a bit of an unattractive club to play for or support. We've made the final the past 6 seasons with limited success until now! and this was probably the year with the lowest expectations.
Oh wow that's awesome. I guess the AFL has a similar format to the NRL. I believe someone mentioned about the NRL that a team outside the top 4 hasn't won the whole thing in a very long time. Not sure how much that would apply to the AFL but still cool and impressive. Sounds like a miracle run.
@@EamonnReacts the only ones in the modern era of AFL I can think of that have won the grand final from outside the top 4 were : Adelaide 1998, Western Bulldogs 2016 and now Brisbane 2024. The general thought is you can't win the grand final from outside the top 4.. however it was disproven once again.
Being from Newcastle, watching AFL will always feel so foreign to me despite being Australian. Kind of like in the Simpsons when they go to Shelbyville lol. Also membership was originally an AFL thing, the NRL has only adapted it in the last decade or so. Hasn't really caught on yet in the NRL yet.
Swans really need a complete revamp. They have plenty of talent in the squad but could do with a few more tougher/hungrier players. If it wasn't for Isaac Heeney, they wouldn't have made it to the GF imo.
The term for when you jump on someone’s back to catch a mark is a “speccy”, short for spectacular mark, but I prefer “hanger”, as they hang up suspended in the air for ages.
On the scoreboard, the first column are for goals, which are worth 6 points, and the second column is for ‘behinds’ (where the ball goes through the side posts or bounces off a post) which are worth 1 point each.
@@IsaacMaskey Even as a Brisbane member I would argue that despite the result, 2023 was objectively a more entertaining final to watch. Much closer. More competitive. Actually a contest.
@@swingsloth look we had a long awaited win see swans could have won it they look like they were in control st first but lions just ran over them and swans could not keep up
@@swingsloth maybe so but beating the swans we did it really well see if we had beaten Collingwood I'd love it but we didn't and I was waiting for us to go to a finals and win it
@@EamonnReacts Melbourne created this dynasty and they are hell bend on ending it that's why this is a must win for the undisputed champions plus Penrith are at their most vulnerable since ever since 2022 they lost a few key players
I think if Penrith don't play in the wet, and a few calls don't go Cronulla's way, that's another big blow out. Not much between the two team's this year, but I think Penrith's aggression will be too much for Melbourne.
