My sister-in-law's '03 Civic was acting crazy, dash lights coming on, not starting intermittently, seemed to be in "Limp Mode" etc. Popped the hood and went to set the hood rod and it started sparking at the hinge point! The plastic hold-down clip was broken and the rod made it's way to the hot post of the battery! Glad we caught it before any major damage was done to any other components or worse, a fire!

Just remove the serpentine belt and it eliminates all the exterior pulleys and then you will know if the timing belt tensioner is bad or not
