When I first found the sheet music for this song in 2006 and learned it on guitar, I thought it so obscure that I was the only one who knew about it. lol. I do know that there were absolutely zero performances of it on RU-vid at the time. I am pleased to find that the song was only the beginning of a very rich tradition that I now have the pleasure of exploring and that it has gained so much popularity since I got the score from Trevor Maurice in Australia a decade ago. Very nice! This is one of the most popular from XVI century in England. Originally without lyrics, many have been fitted to this dance tune. The present lyrics appeared in the Elizabethan comedy Bartolomew's Fair. "A caveat for cut-purses".
