I am 52 years old and I could remember back in the mid 90s when I purchased the MPC 2000 XL as my first equipment purchase and I can honestly say that was a amazing experience for years. I made lots of amazing beats on that machine and no, I do not still have it. I sold it on, eBay. Question despite the MPC pad feel how is the key 37 workflow in the actual machine is it like the MPC live workflow or does it have limitations?
@@Sarah2ill 😂 I feel you, but let me guarantee you, Kanye did NOT use protools. He used MPC 2000 XL and the ASR. That was it. He didn’t even record in protools. He had a 4 track recorder (or 8 track)… protools came in for him when he started to officially record College dropout w/Rocafella. But most of those songs were done at the crib on the 8track. I modeled my setup after his. I’m not sure what he used now cause I haven’t been around in many years… and I can’t speak for Dilla. But I don’t think he used software either 😅. Maybe in the last couple of years before his passing, but we were masters of those machines and it’s hard to switch to software when you know how to manipulate stuff using hardware. I just happened to be there 💁🏾♂️ that’s why I said “you cheated.” 😅 We ain’t put NOTHING in protools. That was a foreign concept. It’s so foreign, I’ve been using Protools and Reason for over a decade and just bought an MPC Key 37 cause deep down that’s what I know inherently. I always feel stifled in. The software. 😩 Look at Jermaine Dupri too, you’ll ALWAYS see him on an MPC. He comes from that era. But nothing against putting it in the software if that’s your flow!!! Do what works for you. As long as the music comes out good. On another note, I somehow stumbled on this video… but I just checked out your channel!! Dooope!! Keep doing your thing!
Living the dream. Well done! I have no musical knowledge and am tempted to buy something like this to learn on. But I know that is probably a risky/silly move. Any suggestions on how to better get started?
For entry level I'd recommend the live 2 or the key 37 or the one plus by akai to begin your mpc journey! Those options are less than half the price of the x se.
@Racca420 Still a big price for potentially something that doesn't take off. I am thinking I will either get some old 90s device and recycle it, to see if I take to it. Or just go all in. The non SE MPC X speaks to me in terms of value to money.
