Nah, that text is just a cross-reference from Deuteronomy where God writes the law in stone with his finger. Jesus is doing the same on the ground because he's God and the Jews are trying to use the law against God. This is what people need to see and that's the importance of the text. If I were Jesus, I would tell you that these people need your compassion instead of your judgement. It's easy for you to say they chose the pigs over Jesus, and maybe you're absolutely convinced that you would have never acted anything like them. While it's nothing other than natural, not to say human, to be in shock and fear after what has happened. This was probably absolutely 'biblical' in the colloquial sense of the word, the fear of death and screaming of 2000 pigs drowning in synchronization. And even though they witnessed a man's life being saved, in the same breath, they witnessed the Livelihood of dozens of people being obliterated within an instant. Of course, they will be thinking about their children at this moment, whom they can no longer feed.
