You need some soldering skills. Either solder braid or a solder sucker to remove the faulty switch. Then you will need solder to put the new switch in.
What is your model. If its the AR02 then there is a good chance the wiring loom under the motor. Check both sides there probably a wire staring to break. You will need to give it a little tug to see the break.
@lazyoldmanathome7699 yes I sell these on ebay. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/164789723916?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=A8p3L8BiQJG&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=C7Wca1sJRpa&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
I knew i wasn't the only person having a sh*tty power switch, what a massive oversight to use a tiny PCB microswitch on a big flappy pedal people are going to press with their feet. They're clearly going to get damaged.
You will need the remove the yoke. Then the plastic power switch cover can be removed by pushing the cover towards the yoke area. After you undo the front two clip in parts. You will need T20 screwdriver to remove the yoke.
Great info on dismantling, I wouldn't have had a clue where to start without watching this and would have guaranteed to have broken it in the process without your help.......Thanks 👍
I know this is an old video , just wondering if the switch will work in any orientation or does it have to be a specific direction? My g tec mk1 works fine but the switch is getting less effective
My problem with this model is that the green locking pull thing will only lock the handle in the upright or much too low angled position, making it useless. When you want to use it in 'joystick' mode, the handle just comes off.
Good video thanks, the switch cover got the better of me though couldnt for the life of me find how it unclips at the back but managed to replace the switch with it in place in the end 👍
The old wheels usually breaks off after time. The new wheel clicks and locks in. To get it back off you could end up breaking the new wheel. This is why I don't show removing the wheek. Not sure why you would want to take a perfectly good wheel off.
No probs now Nigel. I had same problem and they are sending me a replacement £11.99 plus shipping. In fairness though, like you say it’s a crap bit of design and needs to be brass or similar but you know as well as I do, it’s all about cost. I’m guessing they hope the majority of people will just buy a new machine. Pity really as it spoils what over all is a great little machine. Thank you for the video
Very good vid ... I had the cover lose the long pivot pin too... So I have made one from a screw (drilling the centre of the broken off area on the plate) and used Rapid Araldite to shore the housing up... But you are spot on with this vid ... Good stuff X
Yeah, gotta say I was surprised when I saw how..."low end" the switch is to say its pedal operated. And GTECH wanting to ship a whole new head unit @ £60 just for a switch?! Thanks for the guide, switch bought, solder iron on standby...
@@garyridgway4547 If yours does not have the green pull back clip its a different yoke system and this one will not fix your problem. This is only for AR29 or AR30 models only that have the green pull back clip to release the handle.
Glad I watched your video before removing the switch cover, otherwise I would have broken it using the method suggested by others. My problems were caused by a sticking of the on-off microswitch under the cover. I used some contact spray to fix it.
Great video, as someone said before I didnt know where to start but this has given me confidence in getting inside without broken bits of plastic flying around.
Thanks to this video, job done! The cover is the trickiest bit - although you make it look easy. The microswitch only goes in one way, so that helps. The wires connecting to the board broke, so I had to strip and resolder those as well. But THANKS for posting this, and giving me the confidence to try!!
Excellent thank you. I didn’t know where to start when it came to taking out the main foot-switch. I found it helped to desolder the two wires as well so that I could hold it on a bench whilst I cleaned out the four solder holes for the microswitch.
Thank you very much for this video. I had already bought the part off eBay but couldn't work out how to remove the switch cover. I would never have done it without this video. Cheers!
I still can't remove the back edge of the switch cover...been trying for an hour! I'm not stupid or ham fisted usually but I've watched three You Tube videos on the Mk2 switch replacement each describing this cover removal but I've made no progress. Front edge, easy.
What's that rubber flap thing across the front called? Mine just came loose and the roller brush ate it. Is it replaceable- it's perished? It's done for
Very expensive for what they are mine came off my new Gtech the very first time it was used when going from a rug to a laminate floor stuck it back on with super glue still came off after a few uses my daughter also has this model Gtech and hers did not last long neither
It was broke to start off with. If you really want to take a good wheel off you will have to pull really hard or use a wide flat headed screwdriver to prise it off.
If handle is in upright position but then whole hoover falls backwards and then the yoke has risen and won't reposition does that mean you have to put a new yoke in?
