This performance was all about Christina and the 25th anniversary of her album so obviously they needed her to shine. Also even if some artists are able to do some riff does not mean they have the musicality to do it randomly. Some are really good at that and that’s another league of vocalists. In that example is christina Aguilera, jessie j, tori kelly, mariah carey, whitney houston… but some are agile but dont possess that agility to think fast of a run and compete with another vocalist on stage.
This was a celebration of the 25th anniversary of this album. Christina's fans are waiting for those particular runs and riffs. They have to do the song justice and, truthfully, only Christina could take the iconic climax of that song. I actually thought Sabrina was given a generous amount of the song when I first watched it. This is not a duet; it's a feature.
I don’t agree that Sabrina is supposed to jump in the ring with Christina to give her a battle…Christina sings soul music,in black culture,you don’t challenge your elders especially NOT on her record on her anniversary …it is like when Mariah sang with Aretha at the VH1 divas 1998,Mariah said she was looking for space to go to the back to sing with the background singers,she didn’t feel worthy in front of her idol,it is a respect thing!
It should be seen as constructive competition perspective. Fun to watch both showdown like a cock fight vocal acrobatics. Doesn't mean disrespect, just means you both push each other's vocals to showcase them while there's a duet opportunity ✌️✌️😁

This is not fair to Sabrina because it's set up to show off Christina's vocal ability and this is Christina's song. I actually think Sabrina did an excellent job and really sounded great.
The background singers were brought to do this project. One of them is an AMAZING singer that participated on The Voice: Keisha Renee. You can find her performances live on RU-vid. She went to the semifinals but got eliminated... and she is A BEAST.
i know you wil get lots of different recommends for sleep token. and i can say you have a lots to discover from past 3 albums they are all masterpieces, but i would like to recommend something from their second EP Calcutta thats something special, and really underrated song
I think that Sabrina knows that she can't keep up with Christina so she didn't even try. She did her own thing. And it was pretty nice, I think it gave this new version a lot of dynamism.
I believe Christina agreed to harmonize her voice at the end with Sabrina, to compensate for her having to release her voice. Because the show is about her. And Sabrina didn't lose, she accomplished a feat with her idol!
Christina a true rare vocalist. Her tone is unmatched. You should react to obvious from this whole show. I don’t think Christina has more reverb, xtina is just more powerful her voice sounds fuller and power. You trying To compare to compare a good singer like Sabrina to a real vocalist Christina. Come on there’s no way other singers to come to close to her.

Just to answer your questions. The band and backup singers are the same people who have been working with Christina. Some since her recent residency in vegas, others for 20+ years. The reverb on Christinas mic was through the entire special. She is very specific with her reverb, so no, i dont think it was a dig at Sabrina. Sabrina is a HUGE Christina fan, and she was very nervous, but that being said, they have very different singing styles, and Sabrina used very little reverb. I also call her a "cursive" singer. She kinda mumbles through her songs. Very soft, not a lot of enunciation. You hear every single syllable and some extras with Christina 😂
I loved hearing their different styles blend together on this! I think they complimented each other well. I never felt there was any 'trying to upstage' or malicious intent from them. It's just how they sing. Great analysis! 🧡🧡

agreed. for me, Sabrina "won" just because she made the song her own and she made it very sing along. Once Christina went, the listeners known they're not doing any of that lol. Christina has a great voice. Even without a mic, her voice is hefty and loud and present. It's great and honestly makes me wonder how it happens.
Will you be reacting to all/most Sleep Token songs? That would be great since a lot of people react to the newest album and then the old stuff gets ignored and that’s a damn shame! I also really like that you react to the live versions because honestly, this is one of few bands that sounds as incredible love as they do in the studio version so I love hearing the technical things about the live performances! Also please DO analyse the lyrics! That would be so fun! I’ve not seen a lot of people do that

I love Sabrina down but she did as much as Sabrina was really going to. If they would have switched parts, Christina still would have stood out. Christina's voice always stands out because her tone is so clear and strong and she's so proficient in singing.

I'm a huge Linkin Park fan they helped me get through a lot throughout my troubled childhood and even though I'm thirty two now they are still my favourite band. I'm so happy to they are back I had my doubts with Emily but after hearing their two releases multiple times I'm happy to admit I was wrong.

I wondered if Sabrina was possibly intimidated or if just giving Christina space to shine out of respect. I loved your breakdown of both singers separately and together, but in all honesty, I vibed more with the backup singers. For me, they were the true power in this performance. 💖🙋♀️

I’m a die hard carpenter (and also Chappell fan), and as much as I love the cover Chappell’s original just feels more right. Sabrina’s cover feels so clean and just singing the lyrics and the original just gives everything and is more emotional. Also I don’t think you were criticizing it really much. Carpenters are a really chill fandom, we can deal with criticism towards Sabrina.
Disagree on reverb. When you reverb a weaker voice it won't be as apparent. But when you have a huge voice like Christina there's more to reverberate. Let's be real 🤷
Hmmm… interesting. I hear what you’re saying, but I also think that if someone has more of lighter airier tone a dry signal on their vocal, then all of a sudden you hear a bright fronted sound with a lot of reverb on a second vocal. the perception to the audience would be that there is a bigger sound coming out of the second singer due to the change in timbre and addition of reverb.
Nah that's not how reverb works. If anything when your reverb a voice that's strong it doesn't sound so in your face because the signal is being disbursed. If Christina vocal was drier it would be even more in your face and forward blasting. If they hadn't done the reverb on Christina as is it would have sounded completely disjointed @@TimWelchVocalStudio
