Greetings from Eastern Washington. I followed this tutorial; however I adjusted it for Procreate since I purchased the large Procreate collection. Still easy to follow and fun. Also, I use an XP-PEN tablet when I work on the desktop. It’s more affordable for those of us who illustrate for fun. The model I have comes with the screen.
There's a few different reasons someone might choose raster over vector. One being more freedom of movement and being able to apply more natural textures. You can always vectorize it later so you have options to do both.
The Deep Cuts brushes would work great for silk screen. You'll just want to make sure the lines aren't too thin or close together; same as any other effect. If you're going through a printer they'll be able to guide you on what works best.
There is a general video tutorial that is applicable to photos. If you would like further guidance on how to best apply the effect to photographs you can reach out to support@retrosupply.co.
these brushes are great i have used them for my illustrations. there is another one on your website i was wondering about, how do i use the Risograph Print Pack for Photoshop? are they used in the same way as the brushes or are do they do on photos? thank you
That's great to hear you're enjoying them! The Print Pack is going to give you the same textures/effect, but it's applied differently. It's better suited for photographers, graphic designers, or artists wanting to apply the effect more quickly. The brushes give you more control over the end result and are primarily geared toward illustrators.
That's not a dumb question at all! There is a way to use the brushes on a photo in Procreate. We have a tutorial on our Instagram demonstrating this. You can also get the Risograph Print Pack which was designed with photographs in mind.
We only make products for Procreate, Photoshop, Illustrator, Affinity Designer, and Clip Studio Paint. You're welcome to use the video to inspire you, but not to copy the artwork. We have plenty of tutorials on our website if you'd like more inspiration and instruction.
If you click on the link in the description you'll be taken to a page to access several freebies. The Edge & Fold freebie is accessible there. It is a sample of a premium product.
Love your stuff! ❤ Bought the full brush pack for procreate and I am so in love! Thank you for your explanations and tutorials. Could watch them 24h/d exploring all the possibilities. 😅
Thank you for posting! I was getting frustrated with the paper pack I bought cause it just didn’t look right but you explained how to work with it wonderfully! Thank you!
Sorry for the late reply! Wood & Ink has been archived, but we have similar products such as Analog Ink Foundry and the techniques can be translated using other tools.
Ahhh, the good side of RU-vid. Haven’t drawn in about 2 months for some reason and this was kinda the right amount of inspiration I needed, thanks dude 👽
We don't have any intention of making products for Krita, and we don't share trade secrets, sorry. There are lots of guides on how halftones work already available on the internet.
Hello I just purchased your product based on your "no stretch and perfect uniform closed path" for example; when applied to a circle it doesn't give you the perfect closed circle. Is there a way to fix that?
Is there a shortcut to bring up the color chart? In my procreate app, I want to check on a color, I exit procreate, open my photos, scroll to when I when I downloaded the chart, and then close Photos, and open procreate again. This is not seamless.
There are a few different ways you can approach it. You could use a split screen to have the color chart up at the same time as you're working, use the "Reference" feature to have it floating in your document to reference, or bring the color chart into your document. For the last option, it's best to take zoomed in screenshots as Procreate will compress the image making it hard to read.
I have this pack and I don’t understand the K references on the skin tone sheet. I’m assuming the k is black. But there is no black in color lab color brush pack. There is a separate brush for black named colorlabblack. So I assumed I use that But when I try to use the black multiply layers like the color layers they don’t blend like they do here. It doesn’t give me gradients just black straight over my colors. Am I doing something wrong for the k swatches? In this video you don’t actually show the layer selected for the final k like it did with blue red and yellow. Just goes to a close up and then they’re coloring with a darker shade to get the final color but it doesn’t show how or what layer they chose?
Hey there! Yes, K refers to Black, so if you see K1 or K2 in the color chart, that is the Black 1 or Black 2 brushes. The Multiply blending mode will not affect pure black because it's already as dark as possible. If you'd like to see through the black, you can lower its opacity or use a grey instead of black. If your paper texture doesn't have color layers or is missing a black layer, you can create another one and set the blend mode to Multiply. If you have any follow-up questions, feel free to contact us at support@retrosupply.co!
How do you resize the strokes? They don't work in the traditional sense in Illustrator where you use the brackets to make them large or small. Are they actually set to be larger than an inch in size?
It's an iPad Pro. You can use any model iPad available to you so long as you can meet the system requirements for running Procreate and DupliTone. Having an iPad compatible with an Apple Pencil is recommended, but not technically necessary.
We have a color mixer chart included with the Riso brushes and the Print Pack. It won't be exactly the same because Riso has way more colors. Instead of getting a static chart, it is a modular color mixer that shows you how different colors blend together.
Hey there, could you write us at support@retrosupply.co and let us know where you had trouble? We'll be happy to help clarify and walk you through the process.
Alright, but how do you use this brush? Because I can't make a smooth filling in one stroke, and I can't do it in more than one stroke either because then I get that annoying multiply effect
If you refer to the user guide, there are instructions for how to best use the brushes. The multiplying and offsetting effects are intentional features to more authentically mimic the way that Risograph printing works in real life. We know it can have a bit of a learning curve, but we suggest using Method 03 to start until you get more used to other ways of using the brushes.
Love your products and bought InkChamp as soon as it was released. Am I missing the instructions on how to install the actions? I'm sure I can figure it out with some googling but it would be great if you could also include those instructions (unless I'm totally missing them)
