I had the same problem with a Howa mini action. I'm pretty sure they recommended 45 inch/pounds for the action screws and the first time I tightened them the bottom metal which was plastic split. I got nowhere near 45 inch/pounds. I think I got around the 30 mark when it split.
Scope snob. Nobody looking through those two brands can tell the difference in the field that doesn't vomit bullshit, we shoot for a living and use both so aren't trying to justify our purchases.
The old HOWA plastic Bottom “Metal” trick. There’s a bit if that starting to creep into the HOWA stable, which tends to cast a shadow over what is otherwise a fantastic brand of rifle. My 7.62 X 39 Mini Action did the same thing, and it cost me about the same (if not more) to remedy the issue. I now have a metal bottom metal with a 10-shot magazine: problem is now it’s a pain in the arse to poke out the car window because the magazine gets in the way. And standard HOWA Action Screw torque is 55 inch pounds with a synthetic pillar bedded stock, so, yes, 25 inch pounds does seem somewhat insufficient.
I just got the howa elevate in 308 has a larger carbon wrapped profile barrel, same stock, bottom is metal and 5 rnd hinged floor plate. Shoots bloody awesome and you'd spend shit ton more on a comparable rifle. As you say light as fuck. Cheers
It's just silly, .270 is ok, 6.5 is not. Plenty of 6.5 factory ammo that will put more energy into a deer than a .270. Rules written by city dwellers who have never pulled a trigger. Probably because they are too busy pulling something else..
All firearm rules written by people who could not tell the difference between a rifle and a broomstick. Read recently that the " experts" thought that all firearms had only one cartridge. No wonder the firearm laws are a shambles.
Hmm, plastic bottom metal cracked, same problem with Howa mini action, no specs as well for tightening action bolts, perhaps when you manufacture the fix, you should market them??
Yeah and possibly titanium as well still developing them. I bought one for my daughter and had the same problem. I bedded the recoil lug with devcon and it shoots a lot better but it didn’t handle the screw tension
Good review. Hows the balance off the shoulder mate? Ive held some short and light rifles that are a pain to hold steady, always made me a bit suspicious of going too light.
Used to 9:26 do carbon fibre and fibreglass work for a trade, carbon fibre is ridiculously stiff unless it is a thin hollow tube, so torquing stuff up on to it can have a habit of cracking since it doesn’t have any give like wood does
It's got an aluminium pillar, so I assume they've got that is there to take the torque. Problem is the plastic bottom has a tapered hole with a tapered screw head.... which is not a smart idea. But thanks for the info on carbon, not every day I speak to someone from that trade.
Terrible regulations should be rewritten there should not be a limit on each category of firearm, all written up by some office jockey who wouldn’t have a sht clue what they’re talking about know nothing about firearms whatsoever…. It’s like the authorities are assuming we are going to break the law!
When you discover the velocities with a 1 in 14” twist 223 when strictly running 55gr…. As a dedicated roo gun, 55gr gamekings is the only bullet I’ll run. 1 in 14” twist getting 3400fps out of a 24” barrel. Unfortunately the shooting community are as dumb and impressionable as the golf industry. People sell last years you-beaut callaway driver to get the latest and greatest because the industry influences them to think they magically can’t play golf anymore without the next ‘best’ thing. Shooting industry is no different. People seem to not want to test and learn these days, they just want to be told what is best, and not fact check the claims. Then take said claim to the bank and argue tooth and nail that their new hotness is the ONLY way to go. For specific 55gr use, a 1 in 12/14 is ideal, for a ‘shoot any weight projectile well’ rifle, 1 in 9” is the answer. Always love your vids mate, support and agree with 99% of what comes out your mouth. I appreciate the no bulls%^# attitude
Check out Snake Protex (only pair I trust because also wear shorts), Australian owned company, made in NZ & designed specifically for Eastern Brown & Taipans (longest fanged snakes in world). FT Gold prospector⛏️🤠 Fyi - same brand used by Australia Zoo. 👍✌️🇭🇲
The 35 calibers in general never get the respect they deserve. Paper ballistics don’t tell the whole story when it comes to 35’s. Frontal area counts, and all the 35’s kill like Thor’s hammer within their range limits. The 358 Winchester is an outstanding woods gun. It, the 35 Whelen, and the 350 Remington Magnum are three that are in my rotation year in year out.
