The comments here show what FND patients endure on a regular basis. "Faking it." "Malingering." "Psychiatric problems." "Too much to drink." None of the above are true, although the disorder can be exacerbated by and/or lead to stress, creating a vicious cycle. Indeed, until recently FND was treated by trying to convince patients that they were subconsciously inflicting the symptoms on themselves for attention or pity. Not surprisingly, this rarely worked. I'm so glad that patients like "A" are finally getting treatment that recognizes FND as the neurological movement disorder that it is, and that actually helps.

Wow this is tremendous information. I have a brother that had an stroke, he has learnt all over again and he is a little bit independent. But it is sad that family members do not like to get involve to learn about this, to help and understand more the family member affected. I wonder if there is any chance to be able to translated this video with voice over this video? I can do the translation to Spanish if you are interested that the video can be translated to reach the spanish speaking communities of stroke survivors.

This was how I was like. I did the therapy and I was able to go back to work after a year. I’m a stubborn person, so I really pushed through the pain and exhaustion. It’s always a struggle but maintainable. I just have to keep an eye on things and make sure that I don’t go too long without my exercises or stress and life causes me to regress. I’m very thankful for my therapists. They showed me hope for my future.

I went a long time before I found a dr that knew what I had. I kept getting this one neurologist that told me that I was being hormonal. I insisted that I needed to talk to a neurologist that specialized in MS, and he kept refusing. He insisted I get my hormones checked again. I went along with it, saw the dr, he told me it was neurology problems. I asked him to refer me to an MS neurologist, and he did. I was diagnosed by that dr in the first appt that I had this unheard of disorder called FND. I’m so thankful for the doctors who listen to their patients.

@@2howlingmonkeys71 wow. My 16yr Daughter has had a rough time since being diagnosed in Oct. Overall she's loads better, but has to be really careful with energy lvl's, otherwise she'll have collapsing episodes and go back to stiff walking or not even being able to feel and move her legs
@2howlingmonkeys71
@2howlingmonkeys71 Год назад
@@stuartburns8657 I understand. I go through the same thing. Getting vit B shots regularly and sunshine a few minutes each day, stretches and stay away from excessive heat, loud noises and stress really helps me. I keep ear plugs on me, or I bring my Bose noise canceling headset with me. I have noise sensitivities. I also need to eat healthier and limit the amount of processed foods. Your daughter will figure out what affects her, and figure out a routine. I keep my bedroom electronics free. Cellphone and flat screen tvs suck the life out of me. Everyone is different, but maybe some of this will help her. Good luck, and I wish you all the best.

In 1998 it was thought I had MS due to the shaking, which was not in any specific place each day. After an MRI I was told it was cervical spondylitis. In 2014 I had a bad fall and broke my shoulder blade, also had a really stressful episode over a cat... The events triggered what must have been FND all the time however after a 6 month wait I got to see a neurologist for suspected Parkinson's for between 3 and 5 minutes. No further tests at all, just 4 annual telephone consultations the first told me I didn't have Parkinson's but it was probably FND. I am 78, have violent painful tremors. My left side is the worst and I cant walk, stand or sit. I have 3 walkers and a wheelchair that I cannot use. Carers come in 3 times every day and I have to pay for everything to be done. I live on benefits. I am sedated to the maximum limit and the same with painkillers. If I didn't live alone and had been recognised with FND in 1998 when the shaking first started I could get help, however at 78 no-one cares. Just dope me up and shove me in a corner and forget about me... I had a very unhappy childhood and strongly believe FND is caused by stress, there is only so much we can take then like all machines it breaks down and either gets thrown out or fixed... You are so lucky to be getting treatment I wish you happiness and the best health possible.

No mention of Occupational therapy or did I miss it? Exercise physiology and physiotherapy alone cannot get an individual back to occupational independence in ADL, work and leisure. Also what about perceptual and cognitive rehabilitation and role of OT. And how about home assessments?

Attention to malingering : at the half turn she shows a laps of normal gait ;))
@tinawatson3554
@tinawatson3554 2 года назад
I’ve experienced something similar after an injury. I’ve been to many doctors and they couldn’t find a reason behind my unstable gait. It didn’t meet the criteria for any neurological disease. It was suggested to me that it was either functional or psychological. All the symptoms were real to me, and under no condition was I malingering. I genuinely couldn’t walk no matter how hard I tried. So, I don’t think it’s fair for you say that the girl in the video could be faking it. No body wants to live that way.

After my Parkinsons Disease diagnosis, i was on Carbidopa and Pramipexole for two years, as the disease progressed my symptoms worsened, with my neurologist guidance i started on natural PARKINSONS DISEASE TREATMENT from Mayaka Natural Clinic The treatment worked very effectively for my Parkinson’s, most of my severe symptoms simply vanished within the first 3 months on the treatment, i feel better now than I have felt in years and i can feel my strength again. My neurologist was very open when looking at alternative medicines and procedures, this alternative parkinson disease treatment is indeed a breakthrough (ww w. mayakanaturalclinic. c om).
