Wowee!! There is so much to say about them but this just sums it up: They're SO MUCH FUN!!!! I love the shots of the audience. You get a sense of how thrilling it must have been to see them running around, doing their thing 😊
This tape is so cute. I hope Jerry's sons forgive their father for leaving all of them out of the will. And not supporting his out-of-wedlock daughter Suzanne. Lewis made a grave mistake. Leaving all his money to his second wife, Sandi, and his adopted daughter, Danielle. RIP Jerry, Patti, and the little king, Joey.
In Jerry's last interview before his passing, the interviewer asked Jerry when was the happiest time in his life and without missing a beat, he said "when my partner was alive". Jerry loved that man more than anything
Sh*tty recording quality. Grainy black and whitre shot. And yet this is top notch entertainment. Compare that to artists today who need all kinds of pyrotechnichs and still can't pull it off.
I found Jerry Lewis depressing and adhad .. even as a child. I was born in 1964 .. However i would watch his movies on Saturday afternoons what do they call it 3 in a row, which added up to about 4.5 hours of television time. Oh right Jerry Lewis Marathon on Saturday afternoon. So I was raised in Brunswick Ohio and sadly this was all we had to look forward too. I cringe at these memories.
So Jerry Lewis describes this warm ideal relationship with his father, and reports are his own sons were terrified of him because of his emotional abuse. I wonder if his father ever saw that side of him. Something doesn't track.
The Movies deteriorated with each release due to terrible scripts, the issues with Jerry and the increasing use of pathos by Jerry in his performance. Some scenes were so cringeworthy. The live shows such as the COLGATE HOUR were some of their best work. Jerry became increasingly difficult and demanding and Dean was getting fed up with Jerrys attitude. Jerry was all controlling, and his disturbed nature led to the break up. SAILOR BEWARE is one of my favourites in which Jerry shows his undeniable talent but his demeanor and character changed as time went on, as he became unhappy with the format and his character. The Studios are equally responsible for the deteriorating quality of the movies as they were with Abbott and Costello. I think people can see the demise of the Martin Lewis relationship and performance as time went on.
