I will share videos of any and all wildlife in my area that I am lucky enough to catch! The longer that the same animals visit my 2nd floor porch, the more I will look up to learn about them just for the enjoyment of better understanding why they act the way that they do while I enjoy hours of being entertained by them.
With the squirrels being the most active of local wildlife I have already started reading up on them to learn about their tail flicks, vocal calls, and which foods are best for them at which times of the year as well as which are the most loved by them. I will slowly start buying more and more of the foods listed for the right seasons so that they stay healthy and have no reason to dumpster dive.. as i've seen them do for the 9 years that I have lived here.
When I was reading up on what they eat in the wild apples was listed, so I gave them the 2nd half of the unsweetened bottle I had in the fridge. Squirrels need a little sugar in their diet for all that energy they use. So giving them a little fruit option to go with the nuts and seeds that they like to fill up on lets them pick and choose how much of each food item to fill up on while I enjoy watching them out the windows. ❤
Awww that was thoughtful! Glad to see it was enjoyed 😃 I tried a little piece of celery once, just to see if they liked it and I swear, the little guy tossed it right back at me and demanded to see my manager. ...stuck to unsalted peanuts in the shell after that 😂
Feeding squirrels is a rewarding hobby. They'll come to trust you eventually, and will eat from your hand too. Why not give them something nutritious? They really like peanuts, grapes, pears, apples, etc. Lucky Charms can make them sick, because it's all highly processed sugar and flour that they're not able to digest well.
I started off with just some older foods that would have ended up in the dumpster that they've been diving into for years now to eat from fall to spring since it would at least be fresher out on my porch. 😅 I've since bought sunflower seeds, peanuts and other stuff that i've been putting out for them seen in the newer videos. 😇
