Fantastic work Blake! Love this! I saw NIN in 1990 at The Shadow in KCMO. Maybe 150 people, I was right there, He played the show with a CD! I was at the Mix board. When the CD player melted from the heat, the show ended.
Alright. Embarassing anecdote. One time after a breakup, I posted myself covering The Big Come Down (I had never ever let anyone hear my voice before, then blasted it to Facebook). I retroactively cringe so hard (it is NOT good) and have not listened to The Big Comedown since because of that. It especially sucks, because it is an S-tier song for me. You made me want to listen to it again, because Burn was one of two gateway songs, and NIN is my all-time favorite. Thank you. I added it to my playlist.
No they weren’t. Trent only did a remix of the hearts filthy lesson. He did nothing for the Bowie album itself. He’s associated with this track because David wrote it to sound like Trent as something different and asked him to be in the video. When the song got big for a single Trent got asked to do some mixes then for the single but he didn’t have anything to do with recording the song. You can check the credits.
My first time with TDS was on cassette tape borrowed from my cousin. So I didn't get any skips. I listened to it daily, read all the lyrics with the songs, and dissected the liner notes to pieces, and had to make my own tape so I could give it back to my cousin. Years down the road TDS became a blueprint for so many things in my life. From mixtapes for friends to the tracklisting on all my albums to the way I design my live setlist. I always try to make my own music (project named: Grey Skies) sound similar quality/production as this album. It's 2024, I'm 42 years old and I still try to make my music sound like the 90's.
Good lordt, it’s so wild hearing almost everyone sayin that they either were too young or the album was too much in the beginning. I first heard this album when I was 16 in ‘96. The only other NIN song I heard was head like a hole on MTV (I was immediately interested). Next I was in High School and stayed the night at a friends house (slumber party) and Closer came on at like 1am. The moment I saw Trent lick that mic I WAS IN!!! The next day I went and bought the CASSETTE! It was AMAZING! Blew my whole world apart. I have never been the same. Now NIN is a huge part of my world.
