Congrats for the first deer in 2024! I'm very excited for my first deer season here in Michigan also. May I ask where do u guys hunt here in Michigan? I'm planning to go to public land around here Oakland County.
@@johanchen3485 thanks! We tend to hunt Dansville and Maple State Game areas because it’s closer to where we live; a little lazy if I’m being honest. Not sure if you’re aware, but leverage the Michigan DNR all MI-Hunt to show you public/federal/hap hunting grounds. Also capitalize on the extended archery and firearm seasons in Oakland. Good luck and let me know if you any other questions! I’m not the best hunter, but I’m definitely not the worst!
Man shoot what makes you happy, congrats on the deer and you do something that I don’t do and that is move to where you see deer. I need to learn to do that, Zach Ferenbaugh says if the deer come through and you just keep sitting the deer aren’t there anymore so why waste time sitting where you are just move, I think hunting differently than other people you will give you better success:) keep it up can’t wait to see your channel grow brother
Thanks for the kind words! I also agree that people should shoot what makes them happy; I think a lot of people often forget that it's okay to do that. Thanks for the support and good luck on your future seasons!
@@x-pursuit you to man :) quick question what made you decide to film your hunts? Not to so much post them but to film them, I’ve been on the fence of filming
@@brandonpatterson5705 great question. It was a few things. First and foremost, memories; just something to have to look back on in the future. Second, the memory is fallible, so having proof of what actually happened is nice to have. And third, I want to get better at speaking. I can watch my videos to self-critique. For instance, I use “so” and “see how it pans out” all the time. Never really knew until I started recording. Regardless of all the reasons, I still think just having a few minutes of recording can make for great conversations when showing them to people. Even if there are no “kill shots”, it’s still fun to rewatch. I’d recommend just recording what you can but don’t let it take away from the fun of the actual hunt like I’ve done a couple times. My answer is probably more than you expected but hopefully it helps!
Congrats, personally I would have passed that young buck and gave him the opportunity to live and grow another couple years. You might have better luck seeing more mature bucks if you hunt farther from the road and stay still while you’re in the stand. You’re constantly moving and talking. Especially being only a few feet off the ground you can’t get away with all that movement. Hopefully that helps, good luck on your next hunt
With a heavy base layer and a primaloft vest, I’d say around 40 for a few hours in a stand with no wind. Add a down jacket or insulating layer with heat warmers, maybe a little lower. Any colder, I’d imagine you would want to go with something else as an outer layer and reduce the middle layers. This jacket probably wouldn’t serve any purpose at that point. Might also be cumbersome to lug all that into the woods and hard to shoot if you’re using a compound.
I don't think you should have any issue. I don't have this one, but I use a keni jacket with a kutana rain shell and a strong fleece 280. That will be okay 32-40. The keni isn't warm unless you are able to block the wind. It doesn't allow you to over heat walking in. If you throw a super down vest under this coat with a 280 or something, you'd be fine in the sun to 30. I use my stuff all the time on the farm, not just hunting. Get to know your cold tolerance. Wind changes the game. I love the kuiu stuff, and it is top notch. But if money is an issue, look at kryptek. They had an ares down coat for 165 bucks on sale because they Discontinued the color. They do put on good deals. That coat is a little less warm than the super down pro from kuiu, but it's also half the price. Years ago I got a cadog fleece coat like this but not wind resistant or this high quality, but it worked. Still use it with kuiu ultra vest.
Overpriced chineese made and the company at the top of owning first lite is an anti gun donor , paying for first lite goes against what your into , they are using hunters money to fight hunting . Don't be fooled by rinella.
The exterior fabric does make a noise when you move. When rubbing the fabric together, it’s a tad louder than fleece but a lot less noise than a regular jacket (like a North Face). I think the sound level is similar to rubbing your hand over a soft pair of blue jeans if that makes sense. Having said that, I’d imagine the wind proof membrane will add to the noise when the temps drop below freezing. Hopefully that helps a little. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Don’t know if Michigan will get temps like Wisconsin but can’t wait to test it. I’m into failure testing so I know exactly what I can handle with the cold and suit. Thanks for the comment!
I have almost all of the stuff you reviewed and have hunted in all of it a lot. I share most of your opinions. The Aero jacket, pullover, and pants are some of my favorite Scentlok pieces. I have the original Hydrotherm bibs. Their suspenders are way worse than what you have there. Using a speedy stitcher I modified them to be as short as possible and also stitched on cinch straps to the ankles. I used 1/2' webbing and quick release buckles for that. My only gripe with them now is their lack of handwarmer pockets. I have the Crosstek Hybrid jacket, and it is my favorite Scentlok jacket. I wear it as an outer garment and also as a liner for other Scentlok jackets.
Wish I could thumbs up this 100 times. Glad to see we have similar opinions. I also can’t imagine what you have in the hydrotherms. It’s one of those things where you can tell there wasn’t much time spent on it. In retrospect, I probably should’ve just had it modified but was too fed up with it. I’ll have to give the crosstek jacket another look if you think it’s good!
@@x-pursuit sadly they quit the Crosstek jacket. I am sure you can still find them on eBay. There is no way anyone actually hunted out of the hydrotherm bibs before they released them. The elastic on mine stretched badly the first year I used them, and the clips that adjusted them never really worked. I can forgive the lack of pockets as that helps keep water out. The lack of any way to constrict the ankles on them is unforgivable.
What do you wear under your aero savanna’s? I just recently got the jacket and pants and it’s super light and breathable. I just can’t find any lightweight undergarments from scentlok.
I think it helps some, but it’s not a magic suit that’s going to absorb all your scent. I still play the wind whenever I can. I try to follow Eberhart’s general hunting tips and I’ve seen better success overall. The quality of most Scentlok products have been good as well. I’ve had pieces lasting me multiple years.
Sorry! Just seen this. I've been searching around town and everything is definitely more than $9. I'll have to just keep searching for a cheaper price. If you for whatever reason start up a hunting clothes business that tends to short people like me, don't hesitate to reach out lol
