@@PeteThorn Sorry, Pete. I could have been a little clearer with my reply. What I meant to say was, while VHII is a great album song wise. It is one of the worst LPs I've ever heard when it comes to how the album was mixed. Sonically, it could have been mixed a whole lot better than it was. I've always hoped that they would have remastered VHII and re-released it. Sorry for the confusion.
Hey Pete!. Just bought a Katana Artist MkII, was sick of using vintage tube amps for practice. I tried putting a compressor b4 the amp....and i started A/Bing...the amp sounds like it has a universal Compressor at all times (not footswitched in or out)
I am surprised how much I like the SD ‘59. They all sound great. I like the Frankenstein and the Pariahs, but man the ‘59 is like the all-rounder to me. Great playing, great job
And the moral of this story is: buy a DR103. 🤠 The CTC pedal sounds pretty damn good but there's no substitute for the real thing (unless you have to carry it and a couple of 4x12s around). And if you wouldn't mind, tell me more about that explorer.....
I keep revisiting this demo because is awesome. Mr. Thorn knows how to get the most out of the pedal, which sounds great because of his enormous taste and feeling when playing guitar.
Somehow I missed this vid by Pete. I've found that I love the tube preamp of my little supro amp into an IR loader, so this pedal is of interest to me.
I believe mr pete thorn uses his gear not just for effect but also how it inspires him to write something that teaches you how to think about the gear you are using
There's also a reverb pedal called the Boing (with the "i" being the shape of a spring). It's made by j. Rockett Audio Designs. I read where it uses a real reverb spring built right into a small module.
I thought I was hearing the pedal gating the repeats in the pedal v rack comparison, but upon replay, I noticed you had muted the gtr. In the "rack" take, the overtones sorta rumble through and sound huge. But with a few more replays, and some mental interpolation, I'm happy to opine that the pedal would sound precisely the same as the unmuted passage. (Not a complaint btw! Making demos, editing, precise performances for a tough audience: you succeed in spades as they say.)
I wish this pedal was out several years ago. I’m one of those Gilmour tone nerds, and this thing seems to be almost a “Wish You Were Here” in a box pedal. I have two part for part clones, one of the Catlinbread WIIO and one of the ColorSound PowerBoost, which do a great job of getting the tones of Gilmour’s rig. But this thing has the cool options (such as the linked Hiwatt, which I think is how Gilmour had his amp wired internally), and the 9 and 18 volt options on the PowerBoost. What really sells me though is the effects loop, something that is missing from other “Gilmour in a Box” pedals, like the Keeley Darkside (a great pedal on its own as well). Having the option of throwing a phaser/univibe/flanger/chorus in the loop is great, but you can also throw a Fuzz Face or Big Muff in there as well (Gilmour went back and forth with his placement of the PowerBoost and the Fuzz Face, and later the Muff, but he like to stack gain pedals and compressors). Again, I wish this was around about 5 years ago, before I built my board to get those tones.
I had the 2290 rack maxed ver. and sold it when I bought an AxeFX 2…..big mistake. I bought the pedal and super happy. With all the technology we have now it is easier to replace the older gear like Boss did with the SDE3000 EVH, Eventide with the 9 series pedals etc. I’d like to see a TC 1210 spacial pedal and maybe the parametric eq in pedals. Seems like good timing for the old rack gear to be refreshed and brought back to the masses. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻 Thanks for another amazing review vid… I enjoyed watching even though I already had it. Keep Rock’n Pete🤘🏻
The cheap old radio shack gary bulk cable has a bunch of treble and sounds the best i have heard. It is Tandy wire and cable e111376a 24awg cl2 75*c cable. I don't know if this is still available but it sure has a lot of treble so it must not be losing much sound thru it!!!!
The perfect blend of a great reverb pedal, song writing, playing and all of the above used with distortion, which is a beautiful, rare bird. Well done Crazy Tub Circuits and Mr. thorn. Thanks for making me "dwell" on staying with my digital reverb or not.
WOW! I never thought of the volume loss! I actually DID HAVE THAT PROBLEM with my fulltone mini deja vibe!!! Sounds great, especially when you use it! But... not for like$350!
Back in the late'80 I had a Digitech DSP 256. It was fun. My wife at time got mad at me. She didn't know I was using headphones most of time to check it out.
I love the idea of this pedal. Why not dump all the 2nd-rate digital emulations and get the real deal? Pete, the intro tune was incredible. You should do a movie soundtrack 🎬 (seriously)
