SO with that much water the rink will never freeze. How do you raise the level of the ground a bit so you can reduce the amount of water? Plywood?
@matoko123
@matoko123 2 года назад
To use less water surely you'd want to dig out the high ground, you can't raise the lower ground.

Would the results be the same, if you will need to move the tripod with the laser beam and continue measuring? (due to the obstacles for laser beam).
@Ironsleek
@Ironsleek 3 года назад
If the laser moves, you have to at least measure 1 point with both laser settings and figure out how much the laser moved vertically.

Excellent demo. I need it for my patio. My dad taught me how to use a clear (see through) hose with water to mark level. But your method is much easier and more accurate.

@matthewrandazzo4102
@matthewrandazzo4102 4 года назад
craydul can’t really disagree with him. A laser transit is the way to go. Be really careful with very tight strings if you need to use a line level. Also keep the stretches short.
@maxdecphoenix
@maxdecphoenix 3 года назад
I don't blame him either. The issue with bubble levels is that the bubble is smaller than the lines, and unless you look at the aperature dead square from the same reference perspetive, you're going to be off. For short runs, i'd say a bubble level is ok, but when you start getting into 10, 20,30, 40+ foot runs, that few degrees of error and reading error gets magnefied, and your layout is wrong. For long runs, a laser is where it's at. for short runs, bubble level is acceptable. i also use a water level for when i have to project a line beyond an obstruction to the laser. I work with piers and pilings quite often and need to transfer level marks quickly.

I believe 4" is what you need for skating. So as he said in the video this represents your water level. 4" on one side and 17" on the other.

He is showing different ways of measuring. He has another video where he shows how to use the laser level. Also you need to put a liner down after making the plastic rink.

how do you resurface ice compromised by high winds. Half of my rink is glass smooth, other half is all crusted over in spots. Very wavy ripply patches all over that are very difficult to scrape down. I'm not convinced flooding is the answer. I'd love some advice on this.

Great video! After you get your first level reading take off the line level and turn it around and remount it. If you're still level then your line level is accurate. This trick works on any type of spirit level.

Anybody else notice at 1:00 when he first tells us about "a 20 by 46 standard rink" how it seems that he was annoyed and swatting a bug on the back of his head. Then, the second time he tells us about it at 2:14 that it seems like his most hated nemesis just spat in his grandmothers face behind camera. He even does this underbite that reminds me of when my dad was angry at us kids but we were in front of people and as soon as they turned their heads we would get a glaring look with this EXACT same underbite that said, "WAIT TILL WERE AWAY FROM THE PUBLICS EYES!!!" HAHAHA!!! Maybe it's just me but the man seems like a VERY angry individual that needs some help and maybe a little bit of medication. He could be a HUGE teddy bear in real life...idk...but I'm sure his kids would admit otherwise...away from the public's view at least. Lol. I know those eyes too well. Sorry for the run-on sentences peeps.
