I actually followed this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PUghr9f6BXI.htmlsi=REkpfdx4v1usepPk. In his description he has links to the extruded aluminum he used and the hardware.
Thanks, corals are doing well again just hate the algae. Don’t mind a bit here and there just don’t want it taking over. Hopefully getting a smaller tang or two in the near future. Looking into a tomini, whitetail bristletooth, or yellow tang.
Sorry I never got to this message I was away from the channel for a while but as far as I’m aware it didn’t have any effect on mine. Just seems to be really bad on crabs, snails, and shrimp so I collected what I could and moved them into a temp tank.
Tank looks good however that light cable would give me anxiety ? I would mount it cleanly with the corner edging of the tank or figure out a way to hide it , kinda cringe
I think your right about being made of kalkwasser because when I use that product my alkalinity went up almost 1 full dkh, granted I used almost a whole bottle but it did go up.
Just gotta beat back this algae now! Think the 2 pieces of dry rock I added have been leaching some phosphates. Trying to get that down and beef up the clean up crew as I pull out what I can. Stuffs really on there though even with a brush a lot of it wouldn’t come off. Thinking it might be some sort of turf algae.
Tank is pretty sweet man. I love franks f aiptasia. It works good, just cover the entire anemone starting at the mouth. I’d honestly use an entire bottle on one if possible. This will trap it from respawning as the stuff hardens after about 45 min
Just hooked up my same Ali bar a couple days ago, will you make a video when you change out the leds? I would like to see how that’s done I’m interested in doing that myself now
They are from AliExpress or eBay. The brand is popular grow. They went back up in price a bit but for being generic Chinese bars they seem pretty hefty. I also ordered some 3w Royale blue leds and 3w 420nm leds and I’m going to do another video once I swap out some of the existing leds in the bars for those to get a deeper blue for more pop. If you order from AliExpress you can message them and request custom bars but I wanted to do it myself.
Looks like they did go back up to $100 from the sale they were on. I got mine for $58.99 so definitely watch for them to go on sale again. a.aliexpress.com/_mKmQEwS
I went to budgetvetcare and bought some intercept spectrum packs. I think they are in the UK and no prescrptions needed. Going to nuke those buggers soon! I got some white bugs on my acros. No idea what they are but act just like the ones in your vid. Thanks for sharing!
Dealing with some algae from probably letting stuff build up in my sump for too long at the moment but corals are still doing great. All my corals even the slow growers are at least encrusting or branching a little since my treatment. I had so many that struggled for so long until the treatment and then really took off. It only seemed to affect specific species for me. For example all my millepora withered away while I had the issue but my other affected acros just had pale colors or stunted growth/pe.
Thank you. Dealing with some hair algae now. Need a bigger clean up crew after the acro bug treatment and my cyano treatment from months ago. Think all the cyano dying slowly raised nutrients and less things around to eat all that algae has let it get a hold on my tank. Going to make a new video of me cleaning all the hair algae from the refugium, trimming the chaeto down, and adding some miracle mud and sand for the mangroves to root in better. Hopefully sometime soon I can get a reef cleaners order in to to replenish the cleanup crew.
@@shellsreef I just went through the same thing. Dinos that went crazy. Tried everything and nothing helped until I did a blackout. Then when the dinos were gone, here came green hair algae with a vengeance. It’s a rough process but you’ll get through it!
Not well lol. Ate pellets and frozen for first 2 weeks without touching aptasia or coral and then yesterday noticed some of the acros with more pe, my elegance, and acans all shrunk up and then spotted him nipping on the acans. So to the 50 gallon refugium he goes.
I’ve watched your first video and now this one. Very clever how you used slits to keep water level constant in the skimmer chamber. Oh and I love your baby clownfish! They look so happy and come right up to your hands!
About 140 in the display size. It’s an SCA 150 with 3 inches cut off the end I had them customize the length and move the overflow to the side so I could put it in that corner.
the bugs you talked about im pretty sure ive just had the same thing its a type of pod that has a taste for acros. standard dips dont kill them, interceptor should kill them although it will kill your inverts and good pods. being in the uk i used milbemax which is essentially the same thing although i treated the corals in a bucket for 24hrs instead of whole tank and has seemed to have worked- they are apparently live birthers so no chance of coming back through eggs.
Mine haven’t shown back up at all so far. The few crabs I couldn’t catch seemed to have mostly survived. Things seemed stunned for a bit and some snails fell off the glass but next day almost all of them were moving again and still are. Even the pistol shrimps I couldn’t catch seen to have survived the treatment.
You basically have to struggle with a vet, but it second hand from someone, or order online from Canada or the UK. It’s definitely a bit risky because if you are in the states getting it from anyone but a grt is technically illegal I believe if you don’t have a prescription but I know of many people buying it online or getting it second hand from other reefers they know so it doesn’t seem enforced.
Good tips for everyone. I am in year 2nd year of my 120 gallon tank, softies only at this point. Not enough coral to uptake enough nutrients so I does not pox to keep the pollutants under control. Went through an aiptasia battle myself over the last year, Borgia to the rescue! Now I have it in a manageable state with manual removal. Basically I have only 9 corals all softies and a bunch of purple rocks, this is intentional as I told myself no tricky corals until I can master maintaining stability. Been taking it serious this year and the results are paying off both in terms of how the tank looks and my education. Like seeing people traveling the same journey that I am on and the different paths they take to get to success.
Nothing but light for mine the only food they get is scraps from what I feed the fish but I do feed a blend of frozen food, mysis, bloodworms, and lrs reef frenzy so I think some food from feeding the fish gets to them. Whenever I direct fed them they grew and split too often.
Hi Matt Your anemones are amazing. I have one nem but it is not doing well. Do you give yours strong light intensity? What is your PAR? Do anemone require NO3 and Po4? In my tank, both are not detectable.
I believe they are around 150 par down there. If they are in poor health I would definitely feed them I have had bleached ones before that came back really nicely with a few small feedings a week of frozen food or pellets. I never found them hard to keep so as long as your parameters are decent and don’t swing all over they should slowly adjust. I have had mine through a few different tanks now so they are extremely hardy now.
reefbum.com/pests/bayer-dip-preventing-red-bugs-and-aefw/ Reef Bum has a very informative page on his site and a video about it that helped me when I started.
@@theideaofclips5481 mostly at hardware stores like Home Depot and Lowe’s but I think I ordered mine off of Amazon. It’s meant to be an insect killer but became a popular dip for sps because it’s one of the only things that kills the more stubborn acropora pests.
Mine was not doing good in qt. He didn’t eat for the first 4 days and just had no interest in food in the smaller tank so I moved him to a larger stock tank and that still didn’t help. As a last effort I threw him in my established 65 I had before this tank and fed a ton of frozen mysis, lrs reef frenzy, and blood worms and it seemed like the blood worms got him interested in food. It took a while before he’d touch the sheets of nori I feed though. I think he had no trust in it until he repeatedly saw the foxface eat it.
I have a 60 gallon with a fluval fx6 canister filter I’m gonna set up too make a reef tank I got 40lbs dry base rock carbsea I also bought 60lbs of live sand pink Fiji carbsea I got a wave maker 2100gph and I got 160 gallons of instant ocean marine salt and I ordered a Hanna digital salinity tester that shows specific gravity I also got a 165 watt viparspectra led coral light I jus gotta set up n let cycle waiting on the Hanna salinity tester and I’m gonna save up for protein skimmer I also bought a countertop RODI system that does 100gallons per day
I did good for a while with my canister filter on my original setup when I first started before getting a diy sump setup and I have seen a lot of others do it successfully but it definitely requires some maintenance because of how much can get trapped inside them and break down over time. I also see a lot of viparscpectra users in groups and forums that have success with that light so I think it’ll be plenty good for growing coral.
The SCA 150 is normally $1300 and they only charged me $100 extra for the custom overflow placement and tank length so the tank was $1400. For pumps I use jebaow which saved me a lot but recently my return failed and I had to drop $160 on a new aqua top pump and the stock tank refugium and sump were $50 and $100 dollars. The skimmer is a simplicity 240 which is around $270. My light was around $850 I think. Lastly my apex gear was partially used and new but because of how much the trident and dos were I think it was still around $1000 total so I’m probably around $4000 on equipment and tank with all together with all the little stuff added in which is crazy because all my old setups had been very budget.
It was a really fun experience though it did take some trial and error we figured out our own way of doing things and had some success. Not sure if I’ll do it again since I still haven’t managed to get rid of them all since I’m not in an area where they are in demand.
