How wicked, blasphemous and totally, utterly wrong. These people are certainly not Catholic, and quite frankly they can't call themselves Christians. To be a Christian you must follow and believe in all the teachings of Jesus Christ. To be a Catholic you must stick to the teachings and authority of the Catholic Church. Appalling.
Thinking of the phrase "By their fruits you shall know them". I have been witness to the fruits of the Holy Spirit Community that has Bev Bingle as their leader. In the past 8 years they have reached out to the poor with food and other assistance, been part of Tree Toledo to give away trees to help our environment, worked on various social justice causes, and more. In my humble opinion the outreach they do is following the teachings of Jesus Christ. Jesus cared for the poor and called the authorities on the carpet for their unjust actions. I was at Bev's ordination, and was one of the communion ministers. I have not joined her congregation (yet?), deciding to stay in the parish with the husband. However, he has told me he respects Bev, and sees she is indeed following the Holy Spirit. It is sad that in so many, many areas there is division. People are held to doctrine, dogma, rules, social norms, law, and so on. When maybe, just maybe, it would be best to see what we have in common and work to common goals. Am I perfect in what I believe? No, but people like Bev remind me I am called to see a bigger picture, beyond myself, beyond any institution...toward the common good. In closing, may the Good God continue to bless you Geraldine Gregory. We are in this journey together. I respect you, wish you well, and consider you a fellow Catholic.
