After watching the video about Ragnar Lothbrok, what aspect of his life or legend intrigues you the most, and how do you think his legacy has influenced popular culture today?
A great work. Once my son heard the music he came asked and watched - 11 yrs and a bit young Bjern looking. Now he’s running around with shield and sword, humming the song and feels like a Viking.
How do the representations of Vikings in popular media compare to the historical realities, and what are some key myths that persist about Viking culture?
Love learning of my Viking heritage 😂 Scandinavian, wasn't born there or even been but theres family who live there, I've always wanted to see Norway for myself, greetings from Scotland 👋
@@VikingsExplained that’s a great question. Imo Yes. Ivar had the mind for the times to come. Bjorn was great but I feel Ivar was to be the greatest. In history he was the greatest out of his brothers, being the first to explore the lands of England and even learned the land well enough that he showed his father around the territory he captured
Its a truely amazing story, Ragnar sounded like he really had a vision beyond just raiding and pillaging like the Vikings are always shown to be. It's a long and sometimes really unbelievable story, Ivars conquests are utterly savage 😂 Ubba, Bjorn, Sigurd and Hvitserk.. Was there a Halfdan also? Or was he and Hvitserk the same as I've heard conflicting stories there? Great video thank you for covering this 😊 The Vikings t.v story are gonna be heavily dramatised but fun to watch nonetheless as reality was more than likely a lot darker and a lot less and side love stories or truces 😂 Ivars takeover of Dublin was probably extremely bloody. (Edit) misspelt something there glad I noticed 😂
If you visit the battlefield at Stamford Bridge, you'll see a memorial stone on a grass verge in an upmarket modern housing estate. That's all you can find to mark the site: no visitor centre or museum. The village of Stamford Bridge is very pleasant. There are good places to eat. We took a bus from York, it was 30 minutes and only a couple of £GBP. We went to Fulford to look for any memorial for the battle, but found nothing. There's an old church but it is now a private residence. If you want to see Vikings, visit York. In the south, Harold fought William of Normandy. We went to Battle and Hastings 2 weeks ago. Hastings is great to visit. There's a beautiful ruined abbey in Battle. It's part of Heritage Trust. You can get an annual membership for all Heritage sites. Carers for disabled adults and children go free. You'll find a great museum and cafe at Battle Abbey.
OK, expert on the Vikings. I expect that, like most of the others who lack a structured study of the Viking, you cannot name the ENDURING LEGACY of the Viking.
Hi Demun1649, everything OK? The enduring legacy of the Vikings includes their influence on language, exploration, and even governance systems. They shaped cultural identities, left their mark on place names, and contributed to maritime technology and trade routes. Additionally, their sagas and myths continue to captivate imaginations worldwide.
@@VikingsExplained And you, just like most people without a structured education, omit the ONE THING that has travelled across the continents. And has NOTHING to do with songs, stories, sagas, myths, or anything esoteric.
@@tirsabril5494 Facile and lightweight. Just admit you don't know. You are a fake. The chances are, if you live in a temperate zone, you will have one of the inventions. And the Vikings did not invent beer.
This is King Harald Hardrada, a mighty Viking warrior, supposedly defending the bridge and being struck by a spear from below. While it has become folklore, it's improbable that such an event actually occurred. We will include this in our next video about myths and facts from the Viking Age.
@@VikingsExplained oh cool, I just thought it would be great to mention now we talked Stamford bridge, but hey your channel 😊 I’m from Denmark so I’ll be watching you 👀 Great video man! Have a nice weekend
Considering the impact of the Battle of Stamford Bridge on Viking history, do you believe there were missed opportunities or alternative outcomes that could have changed the course of Viking influence in England?
The invention of the artifact, by the Vikings, is not even included in the Viking History Degree Course at either Oxford or Cambridge Universities. It is much too much of me to expect a person, who concentrates on the ephemeral antics of the 3rd most violent society in world history, to know about this life-changing, life-saving accomplishment.
