It's my understanding on the subject of losses, is that a farm should be profitable for 2 out of the last 7 years. Drought, bad weather, livestock parasites, etc can contribute to losses. Depreciation of equipment, land improvements such as fences, barns, and ponds should show not only hours of work, but the anticipation of land appreciation over losses.
