Hey Alice Any idea how to remove the color bleed on the edges that seeped in from the background? Not casted light onto the edge, but the background color 'stuck' on the cutout edges. Thanks for the really nice tutorial. AJ Norway
At 1:48 it looks like she creates another layer or copy, but I'm not sure why she's doing that. And she doesn't say anything about that... is that something that is necessary? Because when I do what she's doing, it's not removing the background. Then at 1:55 she says "all you have to do is press delete" and it will remove the background. I'm using Photoshop 24.0.0 and when I tried to do that I received an error message that says "the smart object is not directly editable". I've tried at least 10 tutorial videos to learn how to remove a background and nothing works. Each time, I follow the video, and nothing performs the way the instructor shows it. Photoshop is so frustrating.
she forgets to say you have to invert the selection. if you delete without inverting the selection you will delete the subject which you want to keep. she copied the layer and disablet it's visibility just as a backup maybe. it is not necessary but very good practice. the best way is to use layer masks and add and remove bits you want using the brush. white adds and black substracts.

Yes i was confused too about this part..but then i found out that i can just click on the "eye" icon which is beside the layer that you copied..and it will work
Have been learning Adobe Illustrator in my class, and let me tell you. It takes a lot of practice and experience to do everything she does so quickly. I hope I get to be this skilled some day🙌
