Camping in woods, walking hills, learning new crafts and practicing skills.
Welcome to my channel, where I share my passion for outdoor adventures, bushcraft skills and creative crafts.
Whether it’s tarp camping, hammock camping, or survival shelters, I love to explore different ways of sleeping in the woods . I also enjoy hiking over hills and dales, as well as sloyd and spoon carving with green wood.
As a former construction worker, I have a knack for making things with my hands, and I’m always eager to learn new skills and techniques. Join me as I document my journey of learning, creating, and having fun in nature.
I've seen a mod for lavuu looks pretty awesome unfortunately it's bushcraft spain ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Iy5LIeCq8v8.htmlsi=9RQyt2LHn8TP02bF
Yes, all the original sugar will be in the liquid so it is like starting again. Just like the first batch though, do not overdo the sugar as you can add more to taste at any time. 😄
As usual you make something in 30 mins that takes me 3 days lol I tryed similar to yours for my first one but my notches let me down, I bow down to your woodworking skills 👍
It`s a very mindful experience, the time really flies by. Particularly enjoy swinging an axe though, learnt back when it was part of a carpenters kit. 😄
3m x 3m or 10ft square, you can set this up with any size square tarp though, even did a floorless version with a Dutch Army Poncho. Great to hear you enjoyed the video. 👍
0:25 pretty sure thats either a dutch or a british poncho by the looks of the camo pattern. i believe the belgians have a weird kinda orange colour pattern. either way, i swear by poncho tent setups. super lightweight and you keep as dry or often more dry than tents, especially when looking at similar price range tents lol... and i wouldnt want to walk around in a tent folded around me as a rainjacket, another win for the poncho!
A 2x4 isn’t 2” by 4” are their profit margins huge also? Clearly you don’t understand canvass fabric measurements. Tentsmiths aren’t exactly 3x3 or 10’x 10’ it has to deal with how the canvass is made , cute , fold over for seam and sewn!!! Come on man really? Coalcracker bushcrafts are also the same. Canvass drop cloths from paint stores are the same lumber is the same. But to insinuate bushcraft Spain does it to increase their profit margins is just an irresponsible thing to say. As a business owner my self you’re the worst kind of customer. I’ve ordered many items in the bushcraft industry and the service I received from Bushcraft Spain was fantastic, impeccable. First off their products are amazing, the detail in the stitching, the center tie outs, the entire oil and wax coverage. Than the old school way they ship the product to you. I’ve ordered their Nesmuk tarp, king size wool blanket , wool and canvass drip cloth along with the same 3x3 tarp . As well as the leather blanket roll carrier, and their old fashioned smoked line/cordage. Everything is top notch, and you get what you pay for. They are the cheapest in the industry when it comes to quality on canvass goods. I love my 9x9 tentsmith but it was more than my BUshcraft Spain 10x10 and the stitching is much better on the BS tarp. The tentsmith has more center tie outs. But again it was almost $100 dollars more. Anyway, to see someone disparage a great company because of their mismanaged expectations is wrong and I had to say something.
I'm watching this to see if I would ever want to put a hot stove in a nylon tent. The latest Nortent Vern 2 comes with the option of a stove jack at one end for £20 more. The USP of such a tent is its resilience in high winds. Not sure I'd want to risk a chimney over a nylon tent in 35mph wind
Most of the stoves come with spark arresters so rare for a live spark to come out of the top, though a few escape I am sure. No one shows hot tent camping in strong winds, I have tried it however. With everything flapping, chimney bending alarmingly and pegs pulling out of the ground, you are right to be concerned about that. It`s dangerous! They are better suited to the shelter of the woods, for that they are brilliant.
I'm late to the party this time! Whatever you call that 3x3 setup, it certainly appears functional. Kebab looked delicious 🤤 Maybe you mentioned in the "tarp setups" video, but what would be your go-to configuration for a rainy night with a bit of wind?
I think the plow point is hard to beat . Good rain protection, pegs directly to the ground on three sides so plenty of options for additional pegs if needed and you can have a small fire under it to keep warm and cozy. With a central tie out you have the space at the back and be nicely protected unless the wind switches 180 degrees in the night. That is unusual but have had it happen at costal locations. Have not really done a video on these larger tarp set ups yet, still working out how to approach it as know 70 or 80 different ways and there are probably lots more when you research it.
Satisfying and relaxing video. I can see if I decide to make a spoon I need to get serious about sharpening my axe, or what I call a hatchet. Mine wouldn't chop off a digit but it wouldn't chop off much wood either. I was thinking of all the chips of wood could be used for kindling to get the fire started to do some cooking and you have a spoon to stir the pot already in hand. Nice work and video.
For splitting wood a dull axe works fine, but cutting across the grain is a different story. I sharpen my axes and treat them the same as my knives and chisels, stropped razor sharp edges makes carving safer and more enjoyable. The wood chips from spoon carving make excellent kindling for the next days fire, they will burn straight away but are a bit damp as I predominantly use moist freshly cut wood for carving. Glad you enjoyed the video, and thanks for taking a look.
I completed the Appalachian trail last year. On my trip the only rain gear I carried was an umbrella I got for $5 at Walmart. From GA to Maine that umbrella kept me dryer than anyone else on the trail except for one downpour in VA. It was so hard that it splashed off the leaves and stone until the air was saturated in Three minutes or less
Hi Mark. I really like your videos. Thank you for all the advice and tips you give. It is great to learn from you! Also, thank you for your good English, I can understand you well. Greetings and good luck, Slavo from Slovakia.
Great to know you are enjoying my channel, and thanks for dropping in and taking a look. Interesting that you understand me well, I have a strong local dialect from growing up in a small village, moved away now though, about 2 miles haha! 😄👍
Spoon carving is a very mindful undertaking, the time flies by as you are fully absorbed in the process, its weird that those same effects translate to video in some degree. 🤔
@@mark.a.cornish Good of you to flag it up...personally I use my local tarpaulin maker..Tom Morrow in Inverness ..I know the name makes you look twice but £50 gets you a canvas 12ft by 12 ft tarp same weight material as an old lorry tarp so its heavy but it's bullet proof !!
@@mark.a.cornish Been watching your vids this weekend Mark, and Imust say it's been a breath o fresh air, down to earth with no bullshit, carry on the good work mate it's been a pleasure watching . PS..Im up North in Inverness ..3 miles east of Loch Ness by the canal & Tomnahurich .
Thanks for taking a look. Working on some knife skills and carving videos. My very first video on the channel was about carving a spoon, and had very little interest so have avoided it for a couple of years, but is my favourite thing to do in the woods for sure. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JsB_ZcZGkFM.html
Find some local to you carvers and try out their axes is the best advice I can give. Any axe works if its sharp tbh, and regarding handles you can make your own or thin down a handle you find a little chunky. I prefer a facetted handle as I find my hand tiers quicker with a smooth grip, maybe because I need to grip it harder. Most of it comes down to personal preference so try a few out.👍
as always 1st class video mark in every aspect. gorgeous spot by the hazel and spicy chicken kebab, i think i just died and went to heaven, taking the versatile 3 x 3 to the limits awesome stuff, was that buzzards screeching in distance?
Great set up with your canvas tarp work to treat very clever, your chicken kebabs made me very hungry. I did a lamb mince one a couple of weeks ago very similar. Glad you got a good nights sleep.
the toughest challenges you will find the biggest obstacle's, and these obstacle's will come in the form excuses to quit the challenge, recognise these trip wires and know they will come, is half of it. your positivity is like a beacon and you are shining bright, and its hard not to be influenced by it, good work my friend very good work!👍 hats off.... I enjoy Greek salads with plenty of cold pressed olive oil, fish and salad, lots of eggs, grilled halloumi and er salad. Lots of salad haha! Can eat any veg that grows above ground, the roots store to much sugar and would knock me out of ketosis for a few days. Have kept it very simple so far, but lots to experiment with in the future, pizza bases made from cauliflower and egg, things like that. 👍
One month in absolutely amazing You have done so well ,it’s incredible how much you’ve lost. Great diet gives you a great incentive when you see how much you have lost, years ago I went on a diet. I think it was called the Stone Age diet ,where I mostly berries fruits and nuts ,l did enormous lot of exercise like yourself during it and I lost six stone.
Thanks Lee. You did brilliantly to loose 6 stone. Really enjoying the exercise, I used to do triathlons and lots of mountain biking so just trying to get back to a reasonable fitness level where I can enjoy my activities again. One knee is shot so will leave running alone but walking seems to be proven as more beneficial to running for weight loss in any case, and fits in perfectly with my interests.😄👍
Congratulations on your weight loss and I am guessing that you now have more energy and a healthier body. Just as a matter of interest how did you find changing your diet, was it easy or are there foods you miss
Thank you. Have found it pretty easy so far, but have another 6 months to go so expect I will start getting cravings for something or other. It will not be based on hunger though. Have a bit more spring in my step for sure, tracking my walks and bike rides and seeing pleasing improvements already.😄👍
