Quick question so when changing valve stem seal yu didn’t use rope or air ? If not so it’s possible to change them without neither ? And did yu have to degree yur cams went installing them ?
@McLovinsFunhouse
@McLovinsFunhouse 14 дней назад
I put each piston at top dead center, one by one when I changed valve stem seals. This physically prevents dropping a valve. Air works but I don’t trust it enough. As for degreeing, I just dropped these in without degreeing and never had issues. I know some cams require degreeing to not hit stuff but I just lined up the timing marks and sent it for my set.

Never really had a need to. Years later, hundreds of launches and 6500 rpm shifts car has never missed a heart beat. I do have a stick shift 02 GT project on the side that I rebuilt with new pistons, rods, bearings, todd cams, turbo, and e85...all garage built. It's still not 100% running yet since I dropped a valve doing a hard pull but yeah car felt pretty damn quick even with just a base tune... but an NA build is always pretty cool too. I needed both lol.
@TheRayvin6
@TheRayvin6 24 дня назад
Question, how does scheduling a remote tune work? Did he do it same day as payment or did you agree on a time? Just wondering cause I’m always busy
@McLovinsFunhouse
@McLovinsFunhouse 24 дня назад
Agreed on time. He's pretty flexible, he'll work after hours if he has to. I'm actually getting another car (turbo 2v mustang gt) tuned by him remotely and I paid him back in May. We did like 3 different tuning sessions the past month and here we are in August still not fully tuned since there was a few issues with my car when making hard pulls on the street. Marty and Jeff and super patient, they legit told me "hey man take your time to get things sorted out and either reach out back to us to reschedule another session or just send us a datalog of you making a pull and we'll finalize it". NA tune is cheaper, Boosted is more expensive, forgot to mention that in the video but prices definitely beat any dyno you could ever find on planet earth. NA cars is a few second gear pulls, Boosted cars is a few second AND 3rd gear pulls. So definitely plan on looking for a good road.

@McLovinsFunhouse 24 дня назад
@@TheRayvin6 Yeah he'll send you a pretty big email asking what you have done to your car along with the SCT X4 serial number, ECU Strategy, and all that jazz. He'll then send you a base tune and tell you to load that in before tuning session and that the car will run like trash if you try driving it since it's really just to dial the idle in. I believe I asked him first on Facebook what his schedule looked like to start tuning the car once he sent me base tune through email so don't be shy to bother him. Just make sure your wiring is spot on for the SCT Firewire stuff for wideband before tuning session, makes things easier.

It’s hard to expect any truck with a 4.6 to perform well, these motors are pretty sluggish as is. You pretty much did what I would have done in your case, 4r70w is a good transmission, but I’m far from an expert in the auto transmission realm of things. Being a truck, I honestly would have kept the stock PI intake since trucks need more torque down low imo. All depends what you’re looking for though. Honestly next step would be a set of cams LOL but you still may not be satisfied with the performance for the price you pay.

Hey man, I know this is off topic sort of for this particular video, but I have a question about the hydraulic lash adjusters for the 4.6. I am getting stage 2 MHS cams and I am replacing the entire valvetrain while I’m in there. That being said I have a question that I cannot seem to get a clean answer on. How to I install BRAND NEW hydraulic lash adjusters? Like I need instructions from the second I pull them out of the package. Do I just drop them in an oil bath right out of the package and leave em overnight, or do I pump them with a paperclip? Or do I just plop em right in with a light coat of oil? Thank you for your help

A simple oil bath right out of the box will suffice. I know folks who leave them in oil overnight (or even for a few days), I know folks who bath them in oil for seconds and install them right away…. I personally like to bath them in oil over night.

@McLovinsFunhouse 3 месяца назад
Comp XE268H wouldn’t be a bad option. I wish I could be more useful in the recommendation department but I do believe the 268s would be real close to what you would want. Off shelf cams really aren’t all that bad… they still make sound, they still make power, but a custom grind will put you right at the top. If anything, Todd Warren would be your guy to talk to. I always post in Facebook groups to ask for advice, there’s a bunch but my favorites are “Ford 4v/3v/2v Modular Engine Building” and “Apocalypse Performance/TW Cams Modular Tech Group” for super technical engine questions. Highly recommend joining those and getting a second opinion.
@McLovinsFunhouse
@McLovinsFunhouse 3 месяца назад
If you do plan on rebuilding the heads, be sure to do the “gas leak” test, where you fill the combustion chambers (where the valves sit) with spark plugs installed and fill them up with gas and see if any leaks (with heads off the car). It could take 5 minutes, it could take a few hours to see results. You could also do a leakdown AND compression test before tearing the heads off, it’s basically the exact same test as the gas test. You don’t need to do any of that machine shop nonsense if you know what you’re doing, you can lap valves by hand with a drill to fix any leakage 90% of the time. Don’t over do it and DON’T MIX UP THE VALVES. Make sure you place each valve in exact spot you took them out from. Also, don’t mix up the cam caps when you take cams off… each side is a machined to each head so you technically have to make sure each cam cap goes exactly in the same head it came off of. Also don’t over tighten the cam caps when you tighten them, the cam can lock up when you spin the motor, torque spec is like 8 ft. lbs but I did mines by hand.

I was driving around for like a total of 15-20 min. He started remote tuning the car and the idle in my garage then he said “we’re ready to roll, go somewhere and make a pull”. I proceeded to reverse out of my garage and took me like 5 min to find a spot, finally did pull #1 done, he said make another one, 3 minutes later another pull, he said pull over to upload the tune. Done. He said “if you ever have issues then let me know, I gave you my personal cell #”. Have not had a single issue to this day. Todd Warren cams for SOHC 4.6/5.4 are like $850 for both so like $900ish or so after taxes depending on where you are

Fel-Pro is good. I went with Fel-Pro SS72891 on this White Mustang in the video. There’s a tiny little clear plastic “tube” that comes with Fel-Pro valve stem seals that helps to not scratch the valve when installing them, I have yet to see any other manufacture include this piece. ONE REALLY IMPORTANT THING I FORGOT TO MENTION! The heater hose that goes to the back of the intake manifold is quite problematic with either popping off during random WOT pulls and throwing coolant everywhere or developing pin holes and leaking coolant everywhere. Motorcraft KN88 is what you need if you replace it, which I HIGHLY recommend. Motorcraft KH88 Heater Hose, $35 on Amazon. www.amazon.com/dp/B000C5BS1S Also, that little clamp that thing come on the hose is pretty much fake and serves no real purpose… You need to add a small hose clamp (like a REAL one) down to where the hose slides to the nipple of the back of the intake manifold. I’ve literally had this hose shoot coolant everywhere when I’m street racing, it’s REALLY scary. Nobody ever tells you this… Please follow these instructions above for maximum reliability/safety!
